Same here. My mom asks how much money you want. xD
My parents r like what happened to your grades?!
+Mike and Zach When my older brother says he loves me, I know that him asking for a favor is coming next...
Used to use that in school, they will question on what I've done wrong again. Asian parents are special like that and you gotta love them for it.
Jesus this is so true
My asian parents are like
Me: I got a 96 on my test dad
Dad:Where is the other 4% you promised me

Yup. 100% correct. Buying ingredients to make your favorite food dish = "I love you"
My mom does that always
SirDante lol no this is not sarcasm
True XD
Kisskiss6139 shut up
Yep. Food is a big connector in our family too. I'm an adult with a family of my own, my parents and I still don't say 'I love you' to each other. Okay, we may hug if it's our birthdays or Christmas. But we can talk and discuss food all the time, my mom will still cook for us dishes that I don't cook by myself at home. :D Love it!!
lmao does anyone parents actually knock on the door? mine just come in.
Yeah my parents just come in whenever LOL
+Melissa P My dad took out the door
No locking door! and if its locked, they scream at me.
+Melissa P Hahaha high 5! I was just about to comment about this~When i started to lock my door since they always came in without knocking, my mom was like "why is your door locked? what are you doing?" and she gets real mad when she comes to wake me up in the morning and finds my door locked... You know when your Asian parents loves you when they always try to save the best part of the meat for you. Or when they add an extra egg in your noodle soup. When they scream at you to not waste money on them.
Asian parents love differently, not better, not worse, but definitely different.
This is SO true!! Very relatable haha

If other people ask "did you eat yet", it's just a way to say "hello", "how are you" and making small talks. When parents and friends say that, it conveys a little more care, but actually still trying to make small talk
+ronnnnie it really is! when my family have guest over or when we're at a relatives house, we always ask if they ate yet, just to be sure everyone is fed and well.

Dishes are basic routine 10-15 mins max. Easy after dinner exercise Most Asian parents spend 1 hour plus or 1.5 hours making 3-4 dishes + soup for their kids! :) Dishes just easy Gung Fu,.
Oh my god... WHY AM I CRYING!?!?!

It feels awkward to tell my parents I love them
cft ikr
Oh, me
No way
Not me
cft me too, it is really annoying because I really love them but Its just too awkward to say it :(
definitely agree with this! I think Asian parents express their feelings and what they want to say through actions. food is a MAJOR factor in our lives and my parents are always making sure im eating well or they call to ask if i've had lunch or dinner yet. grandparents are even worse haha every time i visit them, they'll just pile food on my plate! my mother would just come in my room randomly sometimes when im working and be like "here, i cooked some chicken soup for you. drink it while it's hot" and she'll leave my room. i think it's moments like that that really touch my heart and i can feel the love she has for me. It's not what she says but the meaning behind her actions. My family is actually quite open so my siblings and I say i love you quite often but i wont deny that most times i say it, my parents would reply with "what do you want this time?" hahahha

@@btsll9490 i was waiting for this comment for Someone to say my name
I don't think it's simply because Asian parents don't communicate their emotions well. I think there's a fundamental difference in culture between Asians and Westerners. For us Asians, our parents are NOT our friends. That concept to me seems very disrespectful. Parents are not on the same level as us (like friends). They are our parents first and foremost, and they deserve respect and gratitude, not our friendship. Some Americans even call their parents by their first names. Like what?!?!? So disrespectful. Still, that doesn't mean we don't love our parents. In fact, I feel like Asians are much more family oriented and have a deeper love/respect for their parents. We just don't openly communicate our emotions because we don't take our relationship with our parents that lightly and want to show respect more than anything. We care for them on the inside, and show it through actions rather than words (i.e. take care of them when they're old, buy them houses, etc.)
Disclaimer: I'm not trying to hate on Western culture. I'm simply explaining the differences and my opinions.
I felt like your comment was quite offensive to a westener, to be honest. I'm Dutch, caucasian, but I certainly don't take my relationship with my parents lightly. Nor did anyone else who I grew up with. Yes, we seem to be more openly affectionate towards our parents here, but I don't feel like there is anything wrong with considering a parent a friend as well as an authority figure. I respect my parents tremendously and I'm thankful I can share things with them on a friendship level, as well as learn from their life experience, because I know not everyone has that luxury. My parents were the same way with theirs and it has made my family very close-knit and supportive. It saddens me that you feel parents only deserve respect and gratitude, not friendship. To me, those are all equal.
westerners do take their relationship with their parents lightly, and are more often disrespectful to them than other cultures. but the way (which is wrong) of the westerners or the "civilized" people spreads across the globe so its more of the same in almost every culture today.
So don't be offended by the truth. (maybe you personally are not like that, but most of the people of this age and day are the same because of the globalization).
+lone wolf What do you base your opinion on? Because the things you state in your comment are completely alien to me. I don't know, nor have I ever known, anyone who treats their parents like that.
+Simply Suzy I didn't mean to offend you, and if I did I apologize. Perhaps what I am referring to is more of an "American" issue than a "Westerner" issue. At first I wanted to simply use the word American, but I wasn't sure if other Western countries were the same way. I understand where you are coming from, and I agree that perhaps European countries are different from America. So let me rephrase my original argument. It seems that caucasians who live in America take their relationship with their parents very lightly. And this comes from my own personal experience, where 99% of Americans around me behave like the person in this WongFu video; they treat their parents like friends.
Which brings me to the other part of your reply. While I agree that it would be ideal to have a fully respectful yet fully "friendship-like" relationship with your parents, you must understand that this is almost impossible to achieve. We are only human, and we cannot do both equally. If we see our parents as friends, then naturally the amount of respect goes down, and vise versa. Thus, while you may think that you are showing your parents tremendous respect, it is still less respect than they deserve, due to the "friendship" aspect also being included. This is only natural, and I'm not accusing you or anything. For us Asians, we see our parents as only wise, respectable, and dignified guardians who love us deeply and deserve the same love, not as friends. "Friends" and "parents" are two very distinct relationships, and are mutually exclusive. This is why in Asian culture, even the language we speak to our parents is a different, more formal/more respectful standard than normal spoken language. We would never say "Yea, dude" or "Ok Pops" to our father. They don't deserve that kind of disrespect.
Again, I apologize if I offended you, and I hope you can understand my argument.
+jinhk93 I think it's unfortunate that that's how most Asian parents and children feel their relationship has to be. I'm 100% Asian and I'm probably in the minority, but I definitely tell my parents I love them almost everyday if I'm with them and whenever I talk to them on the phone when I'm not with them and they reciprocate this as well. I would say my mom is my best friend and we talk about almost everything. Friendship is a very valuable thing and to have both friendship and respect/gratitude for your parents is the best combination and I feel very fortunate I have this with mine.
I told my mom I love her, and her respond was
"Oh shit, tomorrow we gonna die"

Mom- Of course I can say it. I lug you.
Me- It's I LOVE you.
Mom- I luk you.
Me- LOVE!!!! Stop mispronouncing it on purpose!
it's so fucking true. they're really not verbally expressive with their love but asian parents really like to feed their kids lol. my parents and grandmas (and grandpa when he was alive) would always offer you food, and they would call/text you to ask if you've already eaten. sometimes grandma will keep telling you to eat and won't stop until she sees you put food in your mouth 😂😂😂 or you go to the mall with the fam and you point to a toy or whatever and say, ''i want that'', momma immediately be like ''no!'' but if you say ''i'm hungryyyy'', momma be like ''ok whatchu want?'' 😂😂😂
Prolly bc most of those whom immigrated were starving, and they don't want their kids to feel what they had to feel, and this stuff carried down through the generations
Not connected to that at all. Most parents in Asian countries do that, not just those who immigrate.
this is obviously true

Asian families are weird; like my dad says "you're the worst; why can't you be like your cousin? You'll never get anywhere in life." but I know he just means "I just want you to be healthy and successful" yeah...
Yea. It's messed up doe.
Every Asian parent has that one perfect cousin they compare you to. Apparently Cousin David went to Harvard, got his Masters, Doctors and Bachelors in a four-year period, and got a Presidential Award from Obama in person.
...Yeah. I can totally compete with him.
Carolyn Huang ugh don't even get me started on fucking Cousin David; he's a Navy engineer and everyone's proud of him but they don't want me in the military. U sure about that when they got a belt and a will to beat the shit outta ya?
I'm just looking around 😂
That's true though. ...but they will be a little dissapointed because they will think if heworked hard...why is he not successful.(they won't say it but- My child is STAR SUN and my MOON)...what is that he missed.

Lmao they're showing the NICE asian parents. The REAL asian parents are flat out screaming
Zykrah ha they do mean it
True
U r a kid...love them now or it will be late
Zykrah uhhh they actually kinda do
Anime Lover probably why Asians shouldn't have kids
There are 5 love languages. And it is true not only for couples but also to parent-child relationships. And for Asians I guess, words of affirmation aren't really one of them (like saying I love you). Asian parents' love language is ACTS OF SERVICE (like making sure you eat well) and in return, it's also the kind of love they want to get from their kids (like doing well in school and helping them do chores in the house). That is why saying those 3 words isn't really a thing for the majority of Asians. Just a few Asian parents do tell what they feel inside to their kids.
Gone Girl omg! YES! i learned the 5 love languages at college too! And i was thinking the same thing u did too👌👌👌
on point.
Wow yes. This is really on point. Just different ways of expressing love.
Gone Girl idk man I’m seeing all these comments about how good Asian parents are even though they act tpdistant and tough. My parents who are both Chinese immigrants don’t do that. They usually say they love me, which I didn’t know was abnormal for Asian parents until watching this vid. Even though my parents do a lot of asian parent things, they kinda are bananas.
This was unexpectedly one of the most heartfelt things I've seen from Wong Fu

That McDonalds product placement tho
When the mom said that she loved him, I was like "Awwwwwwww!"
And then immediately afterward, the friend said "Awwwww!" 😂😂😂😂
It's time like these I wish I had white parents. I have bipolar disorder and issues with suicidality and my parents instead of telling me they love me and acknowledging my efforts to improve, they grew distant from me and criticize me. I haven't been hugged in a long time, and I'm especially craving it now😢
Hug hug ( ´ ▽ ` )ノ
Aw, Im sorry. I hope you feel better. If your parents aren’t helping you, you can always talk to someone who is close to you or me. My parents doesn’t know about mental illnesses too so I always talk to people online.
I give you a hug through the internet
Purple Puppy I really wish I could be there right beside you and hug you ;(
White specifically-?
Personally I’m Asian and this is very true,my parents don’t normally say “I love you” and kinda said what the parents in this video said, I find this very interesting cuz I thought I was the only person in the world who have parents who are like this,I’m guessing that my fellow asians are also aware about this too.i think this happened because generation back in Asian culture they don’t normally say “ilove u” and Thea this passed on through generations. Just pointing something out that most of us asians experience!
One has to remember Asian culture has public and private affection. It's complicated and you have to read between the lines when you get older. :)
I'm Asian, (but you wouldn't notice it if I didn't tell you) and my parents do say "I love you", but it only happens sometimes. Sometimes I do get to act like friends with my mom, but when it goes too far, you better pray to God they'll forget.
Im not asian but my parents dont tell me I love you
The McDonald's product placement is reeeeeeeal omg
My Asian mom: I love you
Me: *EVERY NERVE STARTS TINGLING AND CRINGING*
Also me: Ok

"Isnt your dad your best friend?"
Me: *flashbacks to my parents screaming, "ARE YOU TALKING TO ME LIKE THAT RIGHT NOW? WHAT AM I, A FRIEND? WHI DO YOU THINK..."
also my parents: IS THAT HOW YOU TALK TO YOUR PARENTS? DO YOU WANT ME TO USE THE BELT AGAIN?
Mom : Hi jackie!

Mom : Sorry jack!

Hazel Jame and mexican

Same I’m Dutch ( the typical blond hair and blue eyes thing xD)
Me : *Mom! I got a 99% on my test!*
Mom : *Where is the 1% That you promised? No electronics for a whole year!*
Nicole Larissa make that two years
Or three xD
tbh I feel like we show affection through actions more than words. 😊
+Thuong Dinh Absolutely agree
Sometimes that's better
and you're all stupid for believing and pushing stereotypes for "Asians" congratulations!
+MrChomskyist Why are they stupid? Is it a bad thing that Asians are known to respect their parents, and show their love through actions rather than words? You know the saying, "Actions speak louder than words."
You can say "I love you" to your parents a million times, but if you don't actually show it with your actions and with your life, it is useless. I think it's a very good thing that Asians are able to truly love their parents through actions.
+EtSmilee that is so true. and we mean it too.
Did anyone actually cry, because this actually happened to them?
I've never said i love you to my parents they don't say i love you to me! 😳 Nobody from my family has NEVER said the 3 words! 😞
but their actions must've told you how much they care
Kevin Nguyen WOW
My Asian parents.
Me: *comes home with a 95 A*
My Dad: *why you don’t make the 100 percant?!*
Subtle McDonalds product placement
"subtle"
i did not even noticed
+Carols438 Not really that subtle.
not gonna lie though, i got hella hungry for some Mcdonalds.
All of a sudden, I want to hug my mom.
Although we're asian, my parents and I are open about our feelings and say "I love you". Are we the only ones??
I'm sure there are other Asian parents out there who do the same thing. I might know a few of them, but it's not often I do hear it.
+Hannah Cheng⼁♡ You'e definitely not the only one! My parents say it and express it through kind gestures. Being away from home (for college) certainly has helped the saying "I love you" part out loud more though.
+Deaf w Headphones Can u not
+Hannah Cheng⼁♡ Yeah for sure! My parents always say I love you to me almost every day even though I'm living at home seeing them every minute aha
My parents do all the things in this video, but we definitely still say I love you so you're not the only one :)
Me : watching this video at 8 in the night
My mom : oH mY gOd iTs 12 in the morning
So fking trueeeeee
Neon Glow underrated comment
McDonald product placement though :OO
sees McDonald's : I SWEAR IF THIS IS A MCDONALD'S CARMICHAEL
Eric marfull I wonder if it is. Carmichael
My mom is Asian and she's always telling me she loves me. She doesn't shy away with her words lol... but she's also Lao lol
Also she's awkward as hell
my lao mom tells me she loves me by making me those unnamed little pork ball thingies then nagging me about life, reminding me when my own trash day is, and then making sure I have enough sticky rice to make
exewhoever LOL yep. Sticky rice is good though! (Even if Japanese rice is my fave.)
“...but I can’t brag about you unless you are #1...”
*stops playing chess*
I literally started crying when Phil said "I love you too mom"...
What my Asian mom means for some of these things:
Be home by 10: you are a tiny young girl out in the world and will DIIIIIEEE. I don't want my precious baby to DIIIIIEEEEEE.
Did you eat yet: you are a skinny tiny young girl out in the world and will DIIIIIIE. With my superior asian food making skills I cannot let my previous baby DIIIIIIE!
MY MOM ALWAYS RAGES AT ME AND THEN CALMS DOWN AFTER 2 SECONDS AND YELLS AT NE AGAIN
This makes me feel like I’m not asian, my mom tells “I love you” at least 5 times a day and if I get a B she will tell me to study harder and she says she is very happy with my score!
You're very lucky
@@aceshadowins1310 damn you must be young
Your lucky dude
