Thank you for making this video, it’s a good lesson to learn for everyone else, I recently purchased a SGC 9 card and was hoping to cross over grade it at PSA, will 100% be cracking it open and submitting raw now. Card is worth too much to have it come back as an 8 or God forbid a 7.

This is PSA's way of saying they are superior. The truth is grading is subjective and SGC's criteria isn't the same as PSA's. Example I believe SGC puts way more emphasis on centering than PSA, flip the coin and I think PSA puts way more emphasis on surface than SGC.

  • @davidlee7522

I have sent to PSA the same cards crossed over vs cracked raw and received very different results. For example, two cards I tried to cross over came back as trimmed, sent in as raw and they both graded a PSA 9 from BGS 9. One BGS old label cracked open and sent raw went from BGS 8.5 to PSA 10 - 1986/87 Opc Mario Lemieux. This was an old old Beckett label when they graded really tough. Two other old BGS labels went from BGS 9 to PSA 10 and another went from BGS 9.5 to PSA 10

Nice, it seems like you ultimately had good results, after cracking of course. I think I may do something where I resub a few of these cards, of course I'd have to crack them out of their PSA holder first, look them over, see if they are worth resub'ing, etc. If I find a few then it will turn into a future video that pops up on my channel 6 months from now. Thanks for watching and commenting, much appreciated.

As a first time submitter to PSA last month, I sent in two Tom Brady Rookies both appeared perfect to me looking through a jewelers loupe. I paid $150 each for express 14 day grading. I must have received a lazy ass grader as he returned one as undersized and the other was graded a 7. Total waste of time and money. I also subscribed for $99 so I could bulk submit for $18 economy grade only to find out that it was discontinued but a $22 service was now in effect. Problem is they kept my Tom Brady rookie because I stopped my credit card payment for the $99 subscription. I will never do business with them again! I believe they are a total sham company especially since there are no subgrades anymore. Who's to question their grades now? Why was my Tom Brady rookie a 7?

Back in 2021 when I did this it never crossed my mind that the cards could drop that much, I was like, yeah, hey PSA take these slabs, slap the same grade on them and I'll make some money, lmao. The biggest mistake was obviously just not cracking them out of the slab but again, this was my first time trying to cross over and with more recent crossovers I have done, I always cracked them out and generally had great results.

You say only 30 steps, but to the mailman's perspective that's another 30 steps to take. If you have over 100 deliveries to make in a certain time frame and have to run up and down stairs for 75 percentage of packages some big, some small you'll understand. You may also say the people at PSA had the same attitude about you not cracking your slabs as you has about the postman not climbing your stairs! 🤷

This must be taken one step further. For the card-collecting community, you need to crack them all and have someone else re-submit them to PSA, and let's find out for certain if this company is committing fraud.

I will do something with a resub, I have them set aside, that will probably happen next year. I hadn't thought about having something else sub them for me, maybe I sent them to group submitter and then end up making a video about how that group submitter stole my cards and declared bankruptcy, lol, anything for the community, haha. I don't know if I'll resub them in all seriousness, it all depends on what they look like when I crack them, some may get sub'd again if they look good, for the cards the look bad I wouldn't sub them though. Basically though, I'm just waiting to see if they drop their prices again, maybe in a few months. Thanks for taking the time to watch and comment, I appreciate it!

This is just PSA's ego trying to make SGC look bad(its obvious which is why not a single card got a higher grade). If these were sent in raw, 110% some of them wouldve came back higher grade(PSA is just trying to make SGC look stupid). We all know SGC is very consistent and super accurate with grading. PSA is so inconsistent its not even funny, one min a card could be an 8, and if you crack it, resend it, it might come back a 10. That shit will never happen with SGC.

If you really want to crack some then I'd buy a couple cheap slabs to practice on, buy some low grades ones that are super cheap just to practice and perfect your techniques. It's asking for trouble when you don't make the minimum acceptable grade equal to or higher than the grade you're crossing over.
You'd think that they'd want your business and try to give you the best objective grade they can.
I suspect they feel as though they want to teach you a lesson that their grades are superior therefore more difficult to get than the other grading companies.
I suppose if you send in a 10, you should ask them for a 10 grade or don't even crack it that way you won't lose value, you'll only be out the cost of the grading itself.
I tend to like the HGA approach of having technology Discerning if an edge is clean and the Corners are Sharp than some guy who might not like the player you submitted for personal reasons or a mandated suppression of higher grades on certain players. Look no further then Ricky Henderson's rookie PSA 10 grades.

Out of the 27,693 PSA graded 1980 Topps Rickey Henderson Rookie cards #482 there are only 25 PSA 10 grades in existence.
If Ricky Henderson would have been an average player, I doubt that you need to go through over 1,100+ of his Rookie cards cards for every one PSA 10 grade.
They say how it was cut is the driving factor, but every other card was cut the same way. There are four corners to every sheet and that means four separate cards are on the corners and yet none are remotely close in scarcity in PSA 10 condition than this card.
Think about it, only 25 and almost 28,000 cards are PSA 10. There's a couple thousand PSA 9s and over 11,000 PSA 8s.

The real test is to crack them and resubmit... If they go up, your theory is more correct. You'd think the technology is better for grading. I think they can see more stuff these days.

I disagree, I submitted a large order to them in early 2021, I thought I would hit a ton of 10's, my opinion is their graders start out wanting to give 9.5's, that is their default, then again, maybe I'm just bad at pre-grading my stuff, haha

I think your mailman is a HGA fan boy and that's why he won't go up the stairs lol. Wow that was brutal! Now you need to crack them and resend to see if they get higher grades. Back in the day Beckett used it's price guide to suppress the value of other grading companies. Thanks for sharing

@@hobbycollectinvest4250 if PSA didn't have such a resale premium in the hobby, I think many people wouldn't use them. I've seen too many examples of cards getting bad grades that looked great and the collector couldn't make sense of it.

@@digginginthecards Agreed, that is the mentality of most, if the winds ever shift and some other company becomes the standard then people would obviously start to migrate that direction as well. Despite what happened here, generally my experience has been okay. I've been able be pretty close with my grade prediction video, predictions vs. what the grades came out as so I'm trying to not let this experience ruin things for me.

@@digginginthecards 100% agree, thanks for commenting and watching, sorry for the late reply, I've been shooting a lot of videos, several blind PSA reveals ironically enough, a large order from last year when it was $12 per card. You are right though, it's all about the resale, I like how the slabs look, I like CSG as well, not a fan of SGC slabs, that's my personal taste of course. I think that if the winds ever change and another slab starts selling for more people will get on that bandwagon en masse.

You definitely crack them for sure. I’ve never seen sgc get downgraded so badly. I’ve actually seen 9.5 cross to 10 but all were cracked out

PSA used to use 3 different graders per card, circa 2009, now they use 2, I think. IMHO PSA is controlling the number of 10s they issue. A friend of mine only buys PSA 9s, (unless a bargain) because he says there is no really no difference between a 9 and a 10 except in someone's mind or opinion. Anyway, thanks for the video & good luck!

You friend has and interesting perspective and he sounds like a true collector. I've found it interesting, perhaps you and he have both noticed) but it seems like the 9 vs 10 spread has increased pretty drastically over the past year or so. It use to seem like a 10 was about 3 to 4x's as valuable as a 9 (generally speaking), now that spread seems a lot further as 10's are the thing. Given that I bet you friend is able to score some deals on 9's these days.

Lol. If any of you think PSA grades “harsher” than SGC or any other grading company you are a fool. Submitting these slabbed was a gift for the PSA grader, just took 1 to 2 points off automatically. The lazy card collector complaining about the lazy delivery person is hilarious. Reap those grades and keep supporting PSA, the garbage can of grading companies.
