    I’m very interested in this! We just bought a new house in NJ with a steep slope next to the driveway. With rain, the soil & dirt (where numerous old mature trees are btw) run down into the driveway, narrowing it & making it muddy. All of the contractors said we need a huge retaining wall & cut down all of the beautiful trees. But we don’t want to cut them down & put in a big stone! They’re heathy but their roots are strong & sloping along the hill. This could be a possible solution 🤔

      Hello Jane, will need more information. Can you provide more information about why the contractors want to build retaining wall? What type of trees do they want to remove and for what reason do they state they need to be checked t down?

    I would build the very bottom wall up 4 feet and shove a whole lot of horse manure to fill the whole and then top it with arbours wood chips. You can also try the hugulculture method

    Do you cover up the dirt lockers? The design resembles a structural grid that serves better as a footing not facade?

      It’s a personal preference. Many people like the look, but if you don’t, the purpose of the product is to grow vegetation that will ultimately be what you see since plants don’t go out of style. We have videos of both.

    The extra weight it adds to the retaining wall won't damage it over time?

      Nope, if anything, the Dirt Locker system will help strengthen the foundation of the retaining wall as the roots are able to grow deep into the hillside with the nurturing aid of the Dirt Lockers.

    How is this better than a grassy slope?

    • @dirtlocker
      @dirtlocker  Рік тому +1

      Mowing your lawn on a steep slope can be difficult and dangerous. The water will still run off due to gravity. Replacing lawn creates a better ecosystem of wildlife, birds, and beneficial insects. The soil will become much more nutrient rich and plants will thrive to attract much needed pollinators, such as bees and butterflies. The roots of the plants will continue to grow and stabilize the hill preventing erosion, which in turn can protect your property if you live downhill from a steep slope. When trying to maintain a lush, green lawn a lot of people still depend on fertilizers and pesticides and a significant amount of watering can be required during dry spells to prevent grass from drying out and turning brown. Dirt Locker® gardens capture rainwater and are compatible with drip irrigation which only targets the individual plants. Hope this helps!

      Different people use different vocabulary depending on where they are from. It's not a big deal

      It kinda is a big deal. Soil is soil! Not dirt.
      Never heard any soils practitioners or scientists refer to soil as dirt.

      Dirt is a subset of soil. Soil has dirt in, and we lock it up! "Soil Lockers" doesn't roll of the tongue, it's branding. There are copywriter laws to abide by as well, when determining a company name.
