Glad you managed to get a video out this week :-) Risky Woods is a great old school platformer made much more manageable with save states. I've been enjoying my new EXP but man oh man, nothing prepared me for the horrible sound that emanates from the inbuilt speakers. They really are not fit for purpose with the tinny sound made more unbearable with the Evercade's compressed sounds. I went out and bought a small powered Bluetooth speaker with Aux In to use when I don't want to wear headphones. I wish I could combine the upgraded screen of the EXP with the sound from the OG Handheld Evercade. If they've improved the sound on the EXP-R I'll probably end up having to get one unless Alpha turns out to be another handheld ;-) Keep up the awesome work Steve!

Hey Jamie, barely got it out in time. I had my ranking for indie Heroes collection nearly done but I keep changing my mind on the order so it ain't ready yet, I keep reediting and moving the sections about and re narrating 😂 And I just want to finish of the last few levels in acrobat 2 before I give final verdict.
Do you know what it's been a hot minute since listening to the Exp properly as portable I've been on the super pocket cos my Exp gets so frigging warm now, I worry if I have it on too long it'll explode haha and I want my Capcom collection. Let me know how yours does long term with the warming up. But yeah I defo need to relisten to the speakers

@@aboyandhisdogRE Yes, the EXP definitely gets warm after a long play session but generally will only use it for shorter play sessions, switching to the VS for longer play :-) I'm still glad I picked it up for the Capcom games and HDMI Out but the OG EXP definitely has issues. Let's hope these are addressed with the EXP-R :-)

@@jayme69 yeah they defo had stuff to iron out. Mine gets like ridiculously hot now. Just keeping it for Capcom and playing Namco and Capcom on big screen, if yours only gets warm lol, I may still pick up another of exp, I do want the R anyway, but I don't want to pre order before we find out what the alpha is. Incase they are doing some weird like switch thing where you rest it on a unit to play on telly. I'm sure it's not that, but just to be sure I'll hold back a little longer.

Good review! I played the PC version a bit as a kid. I didn't get very far, but from what I remember, it was a fun time! I definitely will have to check out the Genesis/Mega Drive version. I am curious what all the differences are between each version of the game?

Dude, we got to try out nearly all the games last year, you must have known it weren't for you 😂 game of the month is there so you can try the games out without spending money.
And about the risky woods, defo interesting that it plays different from even the original megadrive version. I sadly have no point of reference for that.

I didn't own an Evercade during that period, so I did not get to "try before you buy" with Donut Dodo. Instead, I rely on reviews from UA-camrs like you! :-)​@@aboyandhisdogRE

It's a bit of an arsehole of a game between the tight time limits and random items, but I enjoyed beating it.

Gene, agreed 😂 defo a bit of an arsehole. Those blooming random items sending you back or halving the time, mean! Bloody good game though.
