No wonder that from mid-1997 to late-1998, Bloomberg TV took over Channel 31 for the rest of what was left; as an Infomercial channel. Until on August, 31. 1998, ION Television made its launch as PAX TV at the time, and is still there to this day. Damn you, Cartwrights! DAMN YOU!!!
This station was way better when it was known as WNYC TV-31. At least they had shows like Doctor Who, Blake's 7, the Prisoner, Secret Agent and the Black Adder.
Thanks for posting this. I was hoping you had some clips of some of the shows that actually aired on the station. S+ offered cable-quality programming on an over-the-air station. It was truly ahead of it's time.
One cool thing about WPXN, between this time and the time the Pax network launched, WPXN gave us WWF, WCW, and ECW wrestling every Saturday. It was so rare to see all three companies aired on one TV station
They would have been better off if they just kept running Classic Sports Network on WBIS instead of that Buisness/Sports Hybrid they tried for it. Sadly they probably did better on Channel 31 than what PAX/ION have done there since.
@johnissoevil I remember John. That was the weekend wresting destination at different points during the day lol. Throw in the WTBS stuff(wcw saturday night) and saturdays were the great for diehards. Prior to the big Monday Night wars and Monday's transformation into the "wrestling night", saturdays were King. Having those three companies and their syndicated shows on during the weekend was great.

Man, what an amazing way to go for such a down to earth station. Song was great, and the ending was perfect! Sayonara WBIS.

I remember hearing (early 1997, I think) that WBIS was to replace WWOR when they discontinued national distribution.
Well in actuality it ended up replacing WNYC.

Fun fact: the call letters are now used in South Carolina’s Columbia area as the nbc affiliate! The title kinda fooled me for a second there lol
That’s WIS, not WBIS. WIS have the same call letters since long before the other station came on the air
