    Wow...that's built to last. Someone will be using that a couple generations from now. Nice work!

    No ash catch? Hope you ended up modifying that for easy clean out!

    So what’s the better forge? Coal or gas? Cheers

      I would say gas

      Gas you're a little more limited IMO the coal forge makes it feel more traditional and also it burns hotter.

    What is the thickness of the plate you used vs the thickness of the propane tank itself?

    • @gentilknives8907
      @gentilknives8907  8 років тому +1

      Noah Stringer the bottom plate is 10 mm thick and the propane tank is 2-3 mm thick

      Thank you, I initially designed something similar but cut a fatter stubby tank around the mid weld to make a 2-part forge consisting of the removable fire pot and a clean-out bowl/air input. the point of my question was to determine the similarities between our tanks and decide whether to make fire or install refractory first. Due to the steel of the fire pot being significantly thinner I believe I will opt for the refractory. Thanks again for your reply, it helped me make my decision!

    How thick is the steel for the firepot

    If the whole thing made of metal wont the heat turn it red? or burn holes in it?

      no, the fire is contained by the "fire bowl" (its just a layer of coal dust) but it sits an inch or so above the metal.
