There is a precast hole that you just have to finish drilling (not much at all). I left the oil in, drilled slowly taking out shavings as I go, aswell as drilling grease to help catch shavings. Once done dropped oil immediately. No tapping needed for that. Only need to tap two smaller holes which dont need to go all the way into sump as it's just holding the fitting on. getting towards a year later and have had no issues 👌
Old vid I know but would I be able to put the oil return into the oil cap, have a ba skidcar with the turbo high out the bonnet and looks to be a easy option
Would you recommend removing the oil pan/sump to drill the holes for the oil return? to clean out any metal shavings from drilling. Also how many km's did your Barra have when you did this? cheers
Yeah it would be the better option but pretty time consuming, and not entirely neccessary if you take your time and drain the oil straight away :) there's only one hole that actually goes all the way through and its pre cast you just have to finish it:) 150000km

also has 215000km and all running gear is tight so not like it’s been thrashed already haha
@@tkayy022 if you dont get greedy with boost it should be good :) I've had mine going over a year and half 8psi 👌 keep on top of your servicing and your good 👍
thanks ross you’re a legend!
@@tkayy022 cheers mate all good :) one of my mates did it on 270k engine and it's still going good too 👌
Somone meads to do a video on how to tap the sump
I with you there I thought about it afterwards but I was too busy doing it to film it :( didnt really know how many people would end up watching the video either 😂
Hey mate did you change your map sensor to a turbo one ? And if so did your tuner need to change the map sensor setting when he tuned it ?
Yes, I changed over to a fg turbo map sensor when it went on the dyno 🤙 and they would have to adjust the settings with turbo logic in the tune
@@RossHollandAU thank you!
What turbo kit did you buy just looking to turbo my car
No kit as such, just ebay bits and wrecker stuff 👌 I have a couple videos about what I used if you want more info 😎
@@RossHollandAU yeh sweet as I’ll have a look keep up the work good to see some WA people getting out there hopefully I’ll see Ripin around ahah
What turbo was that you were running thanks
Cheap ebay 3582 made to suit the xr6 turbo👌
Hey man why does the barra engine have pre cast holes in the sump is this specifically for a turbo ?
Yeah mate they used the same sump for the turbo barras and that's where the stock oil drain goes..saves money on casting and design 🤘
Hi there mate great video. Are you using a oil cooled turbo gt3582r
Cheers man! Yeah mate a ebay gt3582 👌
@@RossHollandAU thanks for the reply mate im just a bit confused the factory garret turbo use oil and water cooling and in the vid your turbo didn't have water cooling lines? I looked on ebay but most of the turbo is water and oil cooled. Thanks in advance
Yep correct, after a bit of research and seeing other people do it, if running low boost pressures ( I have a 7psi turbosmate actuator) you don't have to run water cooling, I just left it disconnected.
@@RossHollandAU cheers mate legend
@@RossHollandAU do you need to use a boost controller or does the fg turbo map sensor sort that out?
Is this a kit or is everything just what you have bought?
Bought everything individually :) theres a video on what I used 👌
Hey mate, nice work. That's a big turbo, what size is it
Cheers mate! It's a gt3582 so standard size :) but standard size is quite a healthy sized turbo anyways 👍
Hey mate did you have to change th ecu
Stock ecu :)
Hey mate which parts did you get from eBay did you get it as a complete kit
Hey man! I bought everything separately off ebay, and stuff I couldnt I went to a wrecker. I have a " what you need" showing what I used :)
Cheers mate I just watched the what you need video there's some good info on there thanks
Too easy mate hope it helps :)
What were the ks on this motor ?
About 135k at the time 🤙 stayed turbod for 25k. Engine has been dissasembled and condition is still good 👌
What did you have to cut off the crash bar man?
What did use to cut the bumper support? Angle grinder haha :p
@@RossHollandAU haha nah what part of the bumper suport did ya have to cut off? just the two top sides?
@@XR-vm3qj I took 10mm out each corner on the inside where the cooler is for about 50mm each side, bugger all really 🤘
@@RossHollandAU ye hectic man!
Hey mate do you have links for what you brought! Thanks in advance
Hey sorry mate most of it was bought off ebay and a local wrecker, I do have a couple other videos that are more specific about what I used that might help you search for them :)
@@RossHollandAU you can look at ur past orders on ebay and get the link from there
@@tobywatson5092 true but alot of the stores I bought from arent there anymore and not everything was off ebay. Makes it sorta hard haha
What turbo manifold did you use?
Cheers
A factory ba/bf standard turbo manifold :)
Hey man where did you route the blue hose from intercooler piping too?
That's meant for the turbo solenoid which my setup doesnt have so it's just run out the way and blocked up 🤘
@@RossHollandAU sweet i shall do that haha
@@RossHollandAU Also for the oil drain fitting, when tapping a hole through the sump id the diameter of the embossed hole already in the sump the size to drill?
@@XR-vm3qj yeah mate you just drill out the hole to that size, that hole doesn't need to be tapped just drilled, you tap 2 little ones for the bolts for the fitting 👌
@@RossHollandAU ye too easy brotha
Is that a standard throttle body?
It's a ss inductions big mouth throttle body 👌🤘
@@RossHollandAU your lucky as I don't think they make them any more.
@@TerritoryOffroad yep got it for 50 bucks too 😂
Did you upgrade your valves?
Stock valves and springs :)
is this intercooler overall width 800mm? cheers
Yes, if you look for the asi kit on ebay it has all the measurements :)
This the same grey top as the territory? Wanting to turbo my partners
Sure is :)
@@RossHollandAU beauty thanks mate! Slapping a turbo on the wife's mum bus. Keen as.
@@christopherrundle7845 bonus of the territory is it already has the better diff too :)
@@RossHollandAU well that's a plus!
@@RossHollandAU sorry to pick your brain. Did you change fuel system at all? Pressure reg pump ect? And what boost control?
Hey man sounds cammed, did you cam it?
Hey man! No cam, just barra life :p
Coolant line to turbo?
Only running oil cooling 👍
What did it cost for that setup?
I think I got I it all done with the tune for around 2.5k in the end, I do have a video covering price if you wanna check it out 😎
Yeah no worries
Did you have to do anything to the engine before turboing it? Any ecu work?
Completely stock engine :) if you check the next video in the series it shows the ecu getting tuned on a dyno 👌
How much did you roughly spend?
Everything for the conversion was about 1700, plus tuning costs, but it could be done cheaper I just bought a couple extra good parts.for safety :)
when you changed the map sesnor did you have to buy an adaptor?
Na mate the fg xr6 turbo map sensor bolts straight up and plugs in :) no adapter required 👌
@@RossHollandAU sweet cheers bro. Once installed does the wire plug straight in the same way? Seen some forums on google saying the pins are around the oppisite way on the fg xr6t map sesnor just trying to figure it all out before i pre order everything for a turbo conversion
@@zanelewis834 the pins are the wrong way round on a b series turbo map hence you need the adapter. Fg one will go straight in no probs :)
@@RossHollandAU awesome cheers for the help bro youll probably hear from me abit over the next few months haha
@@zanelewis834 @rossholland88 on insta if you need any help :)
Can you do mine for me 😊
Bit flat out on the the working on cars front sorry 😂
How much this set u back ?
Hey mate! I have a video on how much it all cost me and what I used if you wanna check it out :) from memory around 2500 including dyno tune and supporting parts 👌
Hey mate for that first drive did u leave ur stock fuel pressure reg and ur map sens in?
I put the new reg in and left the original map 🤙
What turbo kit do you use for this, and what is that black intake on top of the head?
I gathered the parts individually 😎 I do have a video on what I used though if you wanna check it out 😁
Quick question bro do you not have to run the water cool lines to the turbo? Cheers
Well I didnt :p low boost setups will be fine ( some factory turbo systems don't have water cooling) . Almost a year in no issues so far
@@RossHollandAU sweet bro. Machanic who is going to do the conversion also said map sesnor doesnt need to be changed if running 6-7 psi as the standard map sesnor can handle 7 psi anyway or does it need to be changed
@@zanelewis834 it may be able to read a little boost but maybe not even enough for wastegate pressure, from my knowledge it was closer to 3 psi in the real world. I haven't heard of anyone using the stock map unless it was to keep it on the road until a tune. My advice :) dont take shortcuts... will bite you in the ass later lol
What turbo kit did you buy? And did you use the factory xr6 turbo manifold?
Yep stock turbo manifold... no kit as such bought everything individually. Theres a video on what I used if you wanna know more :)
@@RossHollandAU mate this is top work. Love it…keep it up. Love how you just get in and do it. I want to do this to my 2008 Territory to get some fun out it.
