Its tragic that they are gone. A real tragedy. It is a terrible loss. I miss them.

I was born in 1967. My family drove everywhere from NY. To Canada, Florida, California, Michigan, Vermont, and many times over. Hojo's was everything as a kid. A cool store of books/puzzles, etc. for kids while on the road was available. Hojo's was truly a part of my life. Just pulling in raised a thrill for that ice cream. It is serious nostalgia for me. We always hit the last one in Lake George when driving north. But nothing stays around forever.

I grew up in Scituate, Mass. when the closest thing to a fast food restaurant was the Howard Johnson's on Route 3-A. My grandmother would take us kids there for ice cream cones and those delicious hotdogs, the buns grilled in butter, served in cardboard sleeves. Pickle chips on the side. I was a waitress at the Ground Round in Cohasset in my late teens, too. Hojos was big on the South Shore back in the day.
