    Thank you for putting out this video. I've had the same issue with two Ego blowers. Works just fine with 5.0 battery, but when I use the 12.0 battery, it kills the motor and won't restart. Ego had to send me a new blower.

      I suspected it was a bigger issue than just me, thanks for sharing your experience. It sounds like its quite common with the 10.0 and 12.0 batteries. Would love to be a part of EGO's testing team because I think this could and should have been caught much earlier.

      @@DanielGoodwin-jq1oc So it will kill the 650 blower if you use a 10.0 battery. That is exactly what happened to mine. It no longer works no matter what battery I try to use. I just wish I had never put the huge battery on the blower. Because now I'm having to probably buy a new blower altogether. I have many of the EGO tools and lots of batteries. This is the first time the EGO quit working or turning on completely. That was all I could figure is the Large battery had something to do with the reason it no longer works. The blower is completely dead. It will not work anymore. Since it is 3 years old. I do not know if EGO will help. I bought it on amazon.

    Electronics guy here. It's a current availability issue. A 12AH battery is capable of supplying more current than a 10AH, than a 5AH, etc. "Turbo" mode in most devices essentially 'opens the faucet' and allows more current to flow, which in turn generates more heat in the motor drivers (typically MOSFETs). Well-designed devices include thermal protection to prevent overheating/burning out the driver(s). That's what's happening. It's either they use drivers not capable of dissipating the greater level of heat or if it can then the thermal protection is overkill for the device.

      Great explanation, I'm not an electronics expert but your description sounds like what I intuitively thought was happening with mine. Would love to hear EGO admit that, even if they don't do anything for the LB7654 they can at least make sure future products don't have this defect.

    I had an issue too. I was using the 650 Blower and I put the HUGE battery that went to the lawn mower. It worked good at first. Now the blower does not work anymore. Ive had the blower 3 years. Now the Blower will not work at all. It does nothing. It does not matter what battery I use. I wandered if putting the larger battery on the blower that required a smaller battery messed it up. It worked fine until I put the extra large battery. Now its completely dead. The blower will not work at all. I live in Mississippi so I have no idea who might be able to look at it to diagnose the blower as to whether it is fixable or not.

    This is surprising - a larger battery should definitely not be running into heat issues since the load is spread across more cells. I've had issues when using too small of a battery with some tools, like a 2.5Ah with a string trimmer running continuously in the summer. I have a dozen 12Ah batteries and use them all the time in many tools. I have a 7654 blower but haven't tried one in that as of yet. I'll try to remember to give it a try sometime soon. Does the battery have all 5 lights turn red? That's the indicator for a temperature problem.

    • @DanielGoodwin-jq1oc
      @DanielGoodwin-jq1oc  8 місяців тому

      I agree, I would have expected the same: using a smaller battery would result in overdischarge/overheating. All 5 lights do not flash red (that I've noticed), they flash green once and then nothing. After about 20-30 seconds they flash again and I can resume blowing. Alternatively, I can disconnect the battery and reconnect and resume blowing at turbo.
      I would love to hear if you encountered the same issue with your blower and the 12.0ah battery running on turbo! Please let us know!

    I have the exact same problem with the 5amp hour. Funny, tech support says they have never heard of anyone saying that the unit shuts off. I thought I had a bad unit, so I took mine back to Lowes and they swapped it out no questions asked. But same problem with a different unit. What bugs me the most is Ego won't admit to a design flaw or whatever the problem is. I assume it has some type of thermo protection sensor that monitors motor heat and then it cuts off. I live in Texas and I notice more of an issue. when it is 95 plus degrees out. It's now fall and 75 degrees and it doesn't seem to cut off as quickly.

      Not sure the issue is the actual battery. More likely it is runninig the blower in Turbo mode for extended periods of time that is causing the problem. I have only every used 2.5aH and 5aH batteries. After two years my EGO blower has just stopped working. I'm getting it repaired and will minimise the use of Turbo mode in future. “Daniel Son” …
    I was getting this same ‘cut out’ with the 5.0 Ah battery, whilst in Turbo. Pull the battery, then it restarts, but will cut out again when Turbo is engaged. Talked with my CherVon Rep, and Ego, and then, while I was waiting for a response back, the impeller lost a fin, when my Wife was running it! 😮 Now it is just hanging on its peg in the basement stairway. Cant locate my receipt, and Effing Lowe’s is NO Help!
    I am demoing the big 80 Volt Greenworks right now, and while it is not the most ergo blower, it does perform well, maybe just below the level of the 765 EGO. But the battery and charger system works well, and battery is charged up quickly, and battery never gets hot! I am not invested in the EGO lineup, and until Lowes can get me a copy of my valid receipt, I may just change to Greenworks!
    Great Video and possibly good PSA! Come on EGO/ CherVon! Get it together!

      Ugh! I hate having to search for receipts to the big box stores, that is the worst! They've gotten a bit better if you have their member rewards program as it stores your receipts in the phone app. Hoping you and/or Lowes will be able to locate that receipt.
      AS for the Greenworks, they definitely have some nice looking products! I was a little burned because the Kobalt line of 80v tools at Lowes was produced by Greenworks and then it seems like they just phased that entire line out which left me stranded till I switched to Ego. The Kobalt pole saw was by far the best cordless pole saw I've ever used, I presume the Greenworks model should be similar as they're essentially the same tool lineup. I will say this about EGO, this is the first and only tool in their lineup that I've had a problem with. It does seem to be pervasive and a design/compatability flaw that they should acknowledge and address. I have 3 chainsaws, their backpack blower, the mower, hedge trimmer, weedeater etc and all of those work fantastic. I wouldn't necessarily give up on the whole product line but yeah, the LB7654 has an issue for sure.

    After watching this video and reading the comments, I'll definitely not buy an EGO blower, until EGO fixes the problem. I can see that it might not be able to run turbo as long as a large battery could power it. If so however, this should be made clear in the instructions AND the machine/battery itself should reduce the power to prevent damage. If I use one of my flashlights on turbo they reduce brightness after a certain time/temperature to prevent damage to the light and the user. The ones I mostly use also specify those times right up front in the specification. Most good flashlights will do this, but some do hide the actual timing of the step down, I suppose to make gullible potential customers believe that their flashlight will ignore physics.
    Since I just purchased an expensive EGO mower that has not even arrived yet, I am disappointed that EGO has not addressed the issue. After all they are big on registration. They could send out a notice to registered users not to use turbo for more than a set time, accommodate users who have had problems, and fix the problem in future models.

    I am not sure I understand how is temperature protection is "annoying" or "issue that needs to be fixed". Would you prefer motor to overheat and die (best case scenario) or get to dangerously high temperature and set battery on fire together with the shop/shed/house (worst case scenario)? Electric motors of this size can not work at 12A continuously. There are gas leaf blowers for that.
    What's worrying is the amount of agreeing comments. It is like complaining that your car airbag was deployed after you hit another vehicle, and justifying the complain by the fact that your car can go even faster than you were going.

    • @DanielGoodwin-jq1oc
      @DanielGoodwin-jq1oc  День тому

      If this was indeed intentional behavior (i.e. temperature protection), then EGO would have immediately said, this is a safety mechanism. They didn't. They said they'd never heard of that behavior before. Further, even today on their website they proudly display the run time in Turbo mode...which would lead one to believe that you can run it continuously in turbo.
