This is it. This is THE most underrated piece I've ever heard.
Debussy has been (for many years) and will always be my favorite composer and this is the first time I'm hearing of this piece. I always wished that Debussy wrote piano concertos and this is the closest thing we'll have to a piano concerto by Debussy.
@@Mingled_RiverOWO ok liszt-
The closest we'll ever get to a Debussy Piano Concerto. 😩😩
True! Similarly to how “Pour le Piano” is a Sonata that’s not called “Sonata”
It is a piano concerto, he was just too cool to call it that. Same as La Mer...it's a symphony but he resisted using the term due to being "pigeonholed"
@@FossilisedFishooks Well, he also thought the work was bad and he disowned it, could not have cared less what we call it
If only he had written more concertos in his life. I’m in love with Debussy’s style.
If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck should we call it a peacock?
First movement: 0:05
Second movement: 7:53
Third movement: 15:39
I hear foreshadowings of Afternoon of a Faun, Nocturnes and La Mer. Fine writing! And fine playing.
5:36! Oh my god! That’s one of the most amazing passages I’ve ever heard!
Was not aware that this music existed. Thank you for bringing this piece (and many others!) to my attention, George :D
The entrance of the piano at 6:40 is so triumphant and beautiful
I love the moment at 13:38. It's like being in a magical garden at night during summer
The color change at 5:35 (and the next 10 seconds or so) is incredibly moving
y'all should listen to this live it's sublime
Debussy would disagree...
@@sorim1967 he wouldn't
@@stravinskyfan debussy tought this was trash
I bet it is 😭
I listend to La Mer live and it was one of the most beautiful things I've heard
A 13:38 si dischiude una tra le cose più belle mai concepite da essere umano.
Debussy was against to traditional forms, so he rejected to compose a piano concerto. But I am still satisfied with this fantasy, it has satisfied me much more than most of the piano concertos I've listened.
The greatest piano concerto of all time isn't even a piano concerto.
@@stravinskyfan ? The greatest of the worst you mean?
Mozart Beethoven and Bach are worlds above this concerto
@@ignacioclerici5341 Are they the only composers you know?
@@ignacioclerici5341so there’s this amazing thing we have: it’s called an opinion. Not sure if you’ve heard of one of those.
amazingly beautiful
Its beautiful, thank you, I really love these videos with score! ❤😊
Between 2:00 and 2:35 is the best passage I’ve ever heard
Whenever I discover a new composer, I look up one of there piano concertos, and judge there work solely on that. im impressed debussy, thank uou😌
What about symphonies?
You shouldn't do that.
How haven't I heard this earlier?!!!
Magic!
Makes you think of "Rhapsody In Blue" , doesn't it. Did George know this piece, one wonders.
Soooooo.......how is this NOT a piano concerto?
i don't know 😔
debussy actually originally intended it to be a piano concerto (and it essentially is), but he was afraid he would be instantly compared to the previous piano repertoire of fauré + saint-saëns at the paris conservatoire, so he called it a fantasie instead!
impressionist composers i guess 🤷♂️
@@jiafeiskinnyproducts Not because he’s impressionist, Ravel called his piano concertos, well, concertos. Debussy just didn’t like the idea of his concertos being compared to other concertos, i think (probably because he is in a new age of music). So he called it “fantaisie pour piano et orchestra” instead.
@@visveee6678 ravel isn’t necessarily regarded as an impressionist, only partially, but yes good point
Amazing

Can anyone say how difficult the piano part is?
Very!
Debussy composed this just after Paris Expo 1889...
Don't know why the term, "impressionism" survived. Debussy, as well as his stylistic contemporaries were early modern composers.
8:36
I think the score is wrong at 18:50, but great video!
I think have the same socre, I think Freire is playing something arpeggios to fill that part as a harp.
14:49 Meme movement
Alfred Hitckcock likes this.
isso
Must be near impossible to conduct something like this...................
Based
This must be a Fantaisie for Piano disguised as a Concerto.
It's Should Be Horrific after 2 Minute of Nice Start with Hammering the Piano. And 6 and 4 and 5 and 8 Nocks. Very Fast with Anti Sharezo and Some Pretty And Braveness.
He also involved an ad to help him finance his cigarette hobby to keep the air in his house scented with manhood
Huh?
