  • Indian cities are rapidly electrifying their urban bus fleets to contribute to the country's target of net-zero by 2070. Nearly 8000+ e-buses operational across the country, and thousands more in pipeline enabled by the FAME scheme. However, majority of Indian public bus agencies do not have appropriate and cost-effective tool for efficient planning and scheduling of the electric buses.
GIZ India, in collaboration with Surat Municipal Corporation, Surat Sitilink, Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) and WRI India, is developing 'Electric bus Planning and Optimisation tool'. The open-source tool focuses on analysing and optimising the operation and cost-effectiveness of the electric bus systems. The tool will enable this through 3 modules:
Depot and Opportunity Charging Station Allocation Module
Bus Scheduling and Charging Schedule Module
    Total Cost Estimation Module
The tool will be piloted in Surat and scaled up across other Indian cities.
