hearing scentless apprentice as a kid in the 90s was life-changing. that was steve's sound

i remember it too. it was so jarring but in a pleasing way
loved Albini before i knew who he was or what he did

A GREAT loss... I've watched HOURS and HOURS of interviews, conversations, and lectures from Albini. Super inspiring.
I hope his studio thrives and carries on his legacy, despite his absence.

Steve was a huge influence on me . I got to see Shellac live back in the early 2000's in Columbus , Ohio . Gonna miss him ! Rest in Peace , Steve .

There's a lot of feeling in this.
It's nice to hear your philosophical thoughts and words of inspiration with Steve in mind. Genuine and pure. A good reminder that we need to be better humans. Well stated, my friend.
I always appreciated having Steve hanging out in the shadows of the music industry. I considered him a protector of principles and ethics. Also seemed like a straight shooter who minimized the fluff. An example of how to be a badass without being a bad ass. He seemed Zen like that.
It's a sad day for sure, but the bigger picture still is beautiful. He did his part and we have to continue to do ours, the best we can. Let's persist to inspire, and be inspired, through this journey we call life.
I'm happy to consider myself a part of your community through your art, music and positive vibes. Thank you. 🙏🏼

This is how hard it hit me when the late, great Michael Brooks suddenly passed away in 2020. Another fearless man of principles.

Thanks for posting this. Love how deep you took it - I think that’s spot on for the kind of iconoclast Steve was and how he had the balls and knowledge to back that attitude up. This was the worst possible news yesterday. Steve was also one of our greatest champions of all-analog recording and fully understood why it was essential to keep the craft alive for musicians. He also had been doling out his vast knowledge of audio engineering for the past two decades, not least of all on the Electrical Audio UA-cam channel during C’vid lockdowns where we could learn some up-until-then well-kept secrets about Steve’s “sound”. I was hoping to catch Shellac again, but now I’m just grateful I got to see them last tour.
One last thought is that it hit me that, for any of us who daydreamed about heading to Chicago one day to record with him, that opportunity is obviously now lost. Instead, I’ve been thinking about taking everything he taught much more seriously, since, in essence, it’s now up to us. 💔❤️‍🩹

Steve was the real fucking deal. He walked the walk in a way no others did and he was an analog legend. Horrible to think hes gone at just 61, so unexpectedly.

I couldn’t agree more!! Way too many people want to walk on both sides of the fence, have no opinion, have little or nothing that they stand for. I choose to live by having lines drawn in the sand. A code of my own. 🙏🙏

A cutting loss. During my short career as a studio engineer, I wished to have met more engineers and producers like Albini, who were principled and ethical. Perhaps I would have continued working in the recording industry instead of pursuing my later career as a FOH engineer. Ironically I heard the news after shutting off my audiobook "Chokepoint Capitalism" on the chapter about the big three, and the monopolization of music streaming. Don't even get me started about Live Nation/Ticketmaster... 😒

    My greatest music hero...
As for the philosophical part; have you read Mark Fisher? I feel like you have.
Today i will record one minute of silence to tape. Rest in peace, Steve.

Yeah, I had a lot of respect for him too, but I have to admit, these pedophilia accusations are disturbing to say the least. I wish we could know the definitive truth on that matter, but I doubt we'll ever do.

Albini wasnt producer. He recorded not produced sound. Look at smart studio demos of nevermind and what Butch vig did with Nevermind final sound. He produced it. Albini wouldve recorded nevermind and left it that way

It sad he died, it was form a heart attack, he was too young for that, it seems we have a high rate of heart issues post vax... ironic how he attacked those that did not want to take the shot.

@@sg24336 Its not bedtime yet :) If you look into the data you will see an increase of deaths globally post vax, In my circle I know of people that dropped dead soon after getting their shot. I think I should articulate my point better, because of the propaganda and faulty vax, we are losing people such as Steve Albini and others from this. He didn't have to die as well others prematurely.
