There was also a scene from an anime called "goblin slayer" that's kind of fitting. spoiler He uses a scroll to open a portal to the bottom of the ocean so that a jet of water under hundreds of thousands of pounds of pressure shoots out and tears an ogre in half.
It's interesting how, despite gaining far greater elemental prowess overall in MHW:IB, we ended up learning that Alatreon is actually primarily a Dragon Element monster. It really opens up topic on what Dragon Element is and what its properties are given how Alatreon is able to convert it nearly perfectly into other elemental forms. I say nearly perfect, as every single one of its attacks has traces of the Dragon Element it was made from if you look closely.
Its hilarious that the white box alaretron head thing was properly cropped in the video back when it launched, but at some point the white square appeared, dont remember when, but it happened some years ago when i was rewatching the series
On the topic of monster's super attacks, both Teostra and Lunastra have their ultimates known as their Super Novas, that's another named attack. I don't remember if they mention it in-game in World, but I'm pretty sure I saw Minoto call it that when replaying Rise recently. They must have called it that in World, though, because I remember everyone everywhere calling it Teo's Super Nova.
I can't remember, but I do know that the paired monster attacks have their own text box like the turf wars in World, although it only comes up for like two pairs.
The supernova is the oldest one of them all. I’m pretty sure it’s a name that the community came up with, but it’s been around possibly since Teostra was introduced in the second generation.
I like alatreon because his horns are in the shape of a pompadour. I remember I was surprised that that wasn't the first thing cotton was getting excited about when he saw al.
17:26 Cotton popping up out of the toaster is my favourite edit of this episode. I love these little visual gags you do, they're very fun. Of the original video, the transition from the Avatar intro (white square error aside, lol) to Alatreon on the cliff was very smooth indeed, that was cool. Either that, or the holy mackerel. Don't know why. Favourite tangent was the one about having internet being better than being a king 500 years ago, which to me sounded like it came out of absolutely nowhere, probably because I didn't catch the context, and Cotton just rolled with it without missing a beat. That was fun. I vaguely recall the more recent time where you did the overly elaborate plan gag except with visuals, but I don't remember when. I need to find that video and watch it again, that was a good bit. I've started rewatching your Monster Hunter playthroughs, so I'll get to it eventually I suppose.
The first one was teostras Supernova, though the sapphire of the emperor was the first referenced in-game. Fatalis super move is called schrades demise I believe
14:00 Lunastra's ultimate attack is referred to as a "Hell Flare" in the MHW Official Complete Works book IIRC, as well as Teostra's being referred to as a Supernova proper.
I hope one day that Capcom will be sadistic enough to give us a quest where we fight all of the Black Dragons at once, but that'll be insanely difficult for them to do, right?
Including Saafi with any of the others alone would be a nightmare of arena design, even if they reworked his health pool to not have him go to multiple arenas.
4:03 oh my god it's the disneyland conversation all over again, like why does Josh love to talk about child kidnapping so much and how he wants to make it super pleasant for them?
If I had a nickel for every time Josh wanted to Kidnap Children to Disneyland and Cotton was skeptical of this idea I would have two nickels, which isn't a lot but its surprising and a bit concerning that it happened twice.
I think Josh forgot that strong enough water hoses can cut through solid steel, I wouldn't doubt anything Alatreon spits out is harmless just because it's water
I belive Fatalis's super move is called "Schrades Demise." Though I don't recall if that's actually it's official name, or if it's just somthing the community coined.
I just call it the world ender since its range and damage is too much to the point that it actually almost covers your screen, and also since fatalis is the world ender
@@harryplatipus4303 I stand ever ready, following that one random person whose name I can't remembers proposal that we should all begin posting this🦀🌙🐌🐟🐢 + ✊️

14:05 I think they started this with Behemoth in base world actually, if we count Behemoth. Though I guessssss you could argue for Teostra's supernova maybe?
Fun fact: valor sheath (the blue glow with auto dodge) consumes stamina AND HEALTH if you hold it and you did hold it before the slams resumed. at 18:11, 18:42 and 18:55 you lost more because the valor sheath dodge greatly reduces the damage taken but doesn't negate it. Then you ran around in the lava preventing any of it from healing. So yes you were probably below even the moxie threshold by the time you tried to dive the attack. But you would be completely oblivious to all that since you insist on playing Russian roulette with your health bar.
This would have been a cool double feature reacting to the old and new world alatreon videos. We'd have a side-by-side comparison of one of their worst raps and one of, if not the best raps they've done.
The thing about going back in time with high tech stuff like phones or computers, though One, how are you going to charge that stuff? Two, there's no internet back then, so what would you be able to do? Pull up a calculator app and wow people with your math skills? I'm not nitpicking i just find the idea of someone going back in time with that stuff funny.
As far as I'm concerned, new Alatreon still only uses four elements. It's oil, not water. I don't care that it applies waterblight, it's not water. End of discussion. 27:06 Oh boy, here we go. The weirdest bit they've EVER done.
30:50 I'll never understand why older fans of MH want optional QoL changes removed for everyone else. There's no part of the game that forces you to restock or change gear at camp. You can still do all the prep before a hunt (I do). You can still play the game the way you think it should be played, and that's totally fine. Play it that way, convince your friends to play it that way. The problem starts when you want to take options away from everyone else just because "back in mah day!!!!" The game devs agreed that you should be able to restock at camp. We can tell, because they made it a possibility. So, besides restrictions just to be restrictive, why shouldn't you be able to restock items at camp?
1:27 Are you trying to pimp out Cotton? Is stuff really getting that dire? Look guys it's gonna be ok wilds will bring many much new content you'll be ok! Please don't make Cotton a call girl... unless he wants to be I guess then more power too him

Escaton isn't that hard to suppress really, hell of you're good you can kill him with raw weapons without even engaging with the escaton mechanic.(Also gu is by far the worst pre iceborne alatreon, he was way better in 3rd gen than gu)
