This is incredible to see this video. Del Shannon's great song from the early 1960's, here together all these years later performing with Tom Petty. I know Tom Petty must have been a big fan of Del's and so great to see them on stage singing, playing their guitars. May they still be performing in heaven.
Cruisin' around in my 1972 Toyota Corona. 8 track player with AM only. I know this song by heart. By the way it was 1989. I was ridiculed immensely. Screw em. Del Rocks.
I was at this concert..married to Phil Seymour and I was pissed because I didnt get to kiss him when the clock struck midnight..It was a magical night.. We were just young kids and chasing our dreams. Thanks for posting this video it really helps me to recapture the youth.
This is one of those rare clips we run across occasionally on UA-cam that really make the YT experience fun. I was one of the earliest Del Shannon fans, and Petty and Twilley/Seymour were pretty great too. Thanks for the post!
This is crazy great! I like Petty and Del Shannon. I grew up near his hometown of Coopersville, MI so everyone had heard of Del Shannon. I used to have an original copy of "Little Town Flirt", it was the first LP that my mother ever purchased. Sadly it was broken during a move many years ago...Too bad that this did not end up on the final cut of Petty's anthology, it is true art.
WOW WOW - great clip!! What a gem- thank you! Props to Petty to bring these great guys our to keep them relevant to a younger generation! All sorely missed- for me especially Tom.
Wow! This is great!! I remember the song "Runaway" from my teen years. I was 15 and ran away from home one Saturday night - hid out in my best friend's basement LOL - and no one knew where I was. In one hour word spread around the neighborhood. hahahaha My friends called the local radio station that did requests on Sat. nights and they requested "Runaway" and asked the DJ to tell me to please come home. Ahh, good times. LOL The '50s-'60s...what a great time to be a kid.
A dream concert for me: Petty/Heartbreakers and the Dwight Twilley Band circa 76-78. Both were fledgling bands on Leon Russells Shelter Records. Phil Seymour was co lead singer of the DTB and had the best chops. He was the background vocals on Pettys American Girl and others. Petty played bass on DTBs 2nd album (also videos) and was guest vocalist on Twilleys solo hit Girls in 84.
What a treat, thanks a lot for posting .More DEL clips being found Was it PETTY who saw DEL doing "country" which he did well by the way, and told him "what you doin man your a rocker" He sure was and one of the best . Sadly missed.
Tom Petty and the late, great Del Shannon. I know Tom Petty produced one of his album's. Also, after Roy Orbison had sadly passed away, the rest of the Travelling Wilbury's were going to ask Del Shannon if he would take his place. If only they had of asked him before he committed suicide, he may have lived for many more years, and what a perfect addition to the Travelling Wilbury's he would have been. I can't think of a better replacement for the late, great Roy Orbison, than Del Shannon.
Good news. Ace Records has already in pre-order the best compilation of Phil Seymour published so far. Luxury presentation with a 20 page booklet full of photos and information, all of his greatest hits and 11 unissued tracks. Power Pop Prince is back. www.philseymour.org
still plenty of devoted fans after 20 years of his death ..A talent i have appreciated since his start in the business . i was glad i had the chance to see him on four occasions ,but i regret not meeting him personally . Which by many accounts he was a top bloke " keep rockin wi DEL"
This has Wlibury's vibes all over it long before them. I believe there was talk of Del joining the super group just prior to his death. He would have been great with them
See 7th Reply to comment by Johnny Comotion (toward the start of the comment section.) It explains further into the relationship between Petty and Shannon. VERY INTERESTING

As I’m watching this concert on DVD (one of the DVD’s from the “Live Anthology” Deluxe Edition), I am reminded that this performance is not on it. Could be some unresolved licensing issues?
I think Del died right around this date. He seems a bit off here, as if he was just going thru the motions. There had been talk about him playing in the group Petty was in but it didn't pan out at the time. Del looks depressed here.
How cool it is that Tom played with Del Shannon!
Man I was looking for something like this and I found it! Devastating that Del and Tom are both gone but in our hearts they still live on.

So awesome petty was in awe he loved this guy's music
Not to many Petty fans know this exists. This is a legacy!
Del was a very underrated talent so that may explain why.
Del was an unofficial member of the Traveling Wilburys

The 1st. Song I remember hearing on my transistor radio. It will always be my most favorite of all time!!!!!!

An all time classic. He was an unofficial member of the Traveling Wilbury's. Was at a recovery convention when I was told of his passing. Rock on

I produced a few songs on Phil and I'm looking for the tapes now. I never saw any of these videos but it's cool seeing Phil on stage again. Sad loss.

Mike Mono mentioned that this was out there. Thanks, Mike! One of those moments in time that it would be such a shame to lose.

1:58 - Benmont Tench did not own a synthesizer until the recording of 1982's "Long After Dark" (he used an Oberheim OB-Xa).
I want Del and Tom back. Both gone too soon
Cool 😎
Del's the kind of guy that just sort of "Wonders." Wondering can lead to a lotta
things - like an all-time classic/legend.
or like a Bullitt in the head
I am 64 and my hair stood up/
....." Me and Del were singing , a little runaway..."
And to think Petty would would cover this song with the Wilburys in 1990 for a B-Side to the Volume 3 album. Great clip!
damn I wish this could be enhanced
I don't think its too late for a Wilburys tour. We've still got Bob, Tom, Jeff, Jim, and Dhani.
It is now 😢
No.

Tom Petty にとってはデルシャノンはアイドルなんですね。
Great performance by Del. I must say he looked better in a pompadour, but then, who doesn't?
In his later years he wore a hairpiece
Jesus.
Не Я один
Still the bridge by Mayfield Crook that bridge made the song the classic it was/ Bowie literally copied it note for note in moonage daydream
Del never got over Tom Petty poaching Howie Epstein
where is this?
Music For The People Santa Monica Civic Auditorium, 31 December 1978---seems like yesterday. My first time seeing Tom Petty.
Hot version. Sound is real poor. Pity
Don't feel bad, I think I was there too (Santa Monica Civic, Greg Kihn opening?) and I didn't get to kiss Phil either.

No. You are projecting.
@@1069Woodsy exactly. Del looks and sounds fine here.
Dwight Twilley was always considered butt rock. Del and Tom will always be first class songwriters, singers and legends.
"Butt rock"? You must have him confused with someone else. Or you have hearing loss.
What is this Butt Rock ?
