I purchased 3080Ti for 600 bucks year and a half ago, seeing this performance, it was a great deal for sure. I expect it will last me another two or three years for sure.

I picked up the RTX 4070 Super a few months back for $490 after tax and discount. It replaced my old 6700XT, a card paid $700 for during the stupid mining craze. The card is solid, is it a 4K card? Games circa 2022 it can handle in 4K. Games it can't, DLSS 2&3 gets you to solid 4K looking image without the FSR frizz. Horizon Forbidden West I can get running in Native 4k with shadows set to medium and other settings a mix of high and very high. Add DLSS 3 or framegen, I get the full experience. CP2077 PT RT mode is somewhat playable with framegen on, you can lock to 60 using 1728P and framegen. So it's a very solid card, now if you have a 12 gig RTX 3080 or 3080 TI, I wouldn't upgrade. The performance is similar within 10%. Now, if you have AMD 6800XT or lower, I would upgrade. You can get the better looking and performing DLSS 2 & 3. Better RT performance, and similar, if not abit faster rasterization performance.
Bro, if I were you, I would've kept the RX 6700 XT for a few more months until RTX 50 series comes out. Because the RTX 50 series could be a worth while generational leap, or it can drop the prices of the RTX 40 series. And then I would buy
RX 6700 XT is still a solid 1440p gpu and it has the same vram as an RTX 4070 Super.
@@jasonzhu9742 My bad, I still have the 6700XT, it's in my third PC (replaced a broken GTX 1080 TI). My 4070 S is in my 2nd living room my kids play from time to time. I play it on as well when I'm tired of spending time in my DEN. The RTX 4070 Super ultimately will go in my third PC as Nvidia has better OPEN GL support for emulation. My GTX 1080 TI could play a bunch of PS2 games in 4k, while the 6700XT I have to drop down to 144O. Mainstream gaming the 6700XT beats the GTX 1080 TI by 20% so I thought this was abit odd.
Primary graphics card is AMD 7900XT in my work/gaming room. When next generation comes out I'll replace my 7900XT with whatever offerings on tap for $800 or less. 7900XT will replace the 4070 S, 4070 S will replace the 6700XT. I'll either sale my 6700XT or give it to my mother (AMD RX 560 GPU).
I would not upgrade if you had a 6800xt lol. Especially not when it’s rumored the 5000 series is releasing q4 of 2024.
The uptick in ray tracing isn’t worth buying into a card that won’t keep its value by the end of the year. Most games don’t have RTX. Majority of people play multiplayer shooters like Warzone, fortnite and apex where DLSS isn’t desired because it adds latency.
Generally speaking I don’t think anyone should upgrade over DLSS or RTX alone. Polls have shown most people wouldn’t even consider an upgrade unless it was a 30 percent or more uptick in pure rasterization performance. Upgrading from generation to generation is really dumb, unless you have wild amounts of expendable Income/need it for work.

@RiceCubeTech That depends on what features you like and resolutions expected. The RTX 4070S is the more future proof of the two cards. You get 13% up lift in rasterization and about 40% in RT. We have games shipping with RT on by default in Metro, AW2, F1 Racing since 2022. I think Avatar has it on by default as well.
DLSS RT reconstruction, for example, it flat-out looks better than standard RT. I only have two games that support this kind of DLSS RT in AW2 and CP2077. There's like 500 games that support some form of RT so it's a feature gaining popularity.
Let's face it, DLSS flat-out looks better and more performant than FSR. So if you like to play with all the features on, the RTX 4070 Super will provide you with a noticeable upgrade if you can't afford the more pricer options. Now if you're coming from a RTX 3080 12 gig, or TI, they rougly have the same performance, and the two titles that support DLSS RT might not be worth it. But a card with weak RT, and a poor upscaler? Hell yeah it's worth the upgrade if you can't at least get a 7900XT or better.
The efficiency just shows you how much better lovelace is compared to ampere and efficiency gap between turing and ampere was so small.
its not really Ada vs ampere but it's Samsung 8nm vs TSMC N4. N4 is lightyears ahead of Samsung's 8nm process.

4090 laptop is a 4080 desktop (exactly the same chip) with lower wattage (175W vs 300W+) so you can call it "4080M". The 4080M will give an impressive score in Cinebench 2024 (higher than some 4070Ti scores) but in gaming, it's a different story when the outcome is much closer to 4070S (it falls between 4070S and 4070Ti). In short, you can call it 4080M and it performs a bit better than 4070S. I got my MSI laptop with this 4080M and feel quite happy now, fan noise is crazy for sure, as a nature of high-end components with high wattage consumption
I would not get the laptop higher than 4060.

@@Jakiyyyyy if you can't afford it, don't even think about it, very simple. I chose to go this way cuz I am not staying in one place for long, the difference between 3.7kg (brick charger included) and 27kg (table not included) was good enough for me to go with mobile, not desktop

I picked up an EVGA 3080Ti FTW3 graphics card about 5 months ago. I wanted the last of the best EVGA Graphics cards. It's been great for my 1440p/144hz setup.

@@eze7647 There will be games that will demand a higher memory bandwidth, where the 3080 Ti will perform better. It's also a card that will consume a lot more power.
"How many fps am I getting" is a pretty open statement. Forza Horizon 5, I'm getting a rock solid 144 fps on Extreme settings. Forza Motorsport, I'm turning off the RT reflections, because you really can see any difference, other that a 20% loss in fps. Ultra settings and the game runs great in 1440p.
I also have the EVGA RTX 3090 Ultra Gaming, on a 4K rig in the living room. It's holding it's own.

Microcenter has this card refurbished for $499. That price along with a 384bit bus and 912.4 bandwidth makes it a no brainer to the 4070 supers 192bit bus. Especially if you play VR.

Of course is money is not an issue ,go for the 7800x3d that's arguably the best gaming processor from AMD right now. (Otherwise if you're on a budget and you are on AM4, why not consider the 5700x3d or 5800x3d)
In my opinion get 7700x it’s still very very good, cheaper than 7800x3d and you can always upgrade to it later if you upgrade your gpu. I don’t recommend 5000 because it’s no longer getting new cpus
Its honestly shocking how the 4070 super gives slightly more frames than the 3080 ti at a fraction of power consumption. Literally 200W vs 300W thats 1/3 the less power! Imagine the money you will save from that 100W.
3000 series are very good deals now. *In my country*, used 3070 go lower than 4060, used 3070 ti price same as 4060, used 3080 same price as 4060 ti, used 3080 ti cheaper than 4070s by $75-$150, and used 3090 for same price as 4070s
I wouldn't call them very good deals. They're cheaper, sure, but the warranty is invaluable. 3080 is a pretty decent deal for 1080p if you can get one under 400.
In Brazil, stores maintained the prices of the 3000 series and the 4000 series arrived even more expensive.

It's sad that the 40 series provided basically zero upgrade for users who couldnt get a case big enough to support a 3 slot GPU. And the fact that the 3080 Ti doesnt have an SLI port doesnt help either. Hopefully if the leaks are true, the 5090 gets a dual slot design.

I was going to get a 4070 but found a used 3080ti for 350$ with one year warranty from a local shop and underclocked it now it ony consumes 250-270 at 1440p

The 4070 super is just special man. Now yall add 30fps over a 3080ti depending on the game with dlss 3 and frame generation activated. Its insane. Yes thats with the 3080ti having dlss2 on.
not everyone likes frame gen due to input lag. The 3080 Ti can also swap in the AMD FSR3.0 frame gen mod while running DLSS, not quiet as good but not far off.
4070 S having the same vram of a 3 year old card should be a crime.
Crazy to think few years ago i was rocking a 3080ti asus tuf with same performance as my 4070super gaming x slim ahaha. Honestly lower power and dlss 3.5 makes a big Chang. With frame gen all games over 100fps
i did the same change but frame gen is such a downgrade in input lag and visuals... it feels horrible but i needed a more efficent and smaller card

How are we still not optimized for 1440p 144hz gaming with basically top of the line previous gen card.. under 100fps average in 1440p with the technology we have available and NVIDIAS $2T evaluation is.. embarrassing
Quick questions, will a r7 5800x suffice for a rtx4090? Or will the 4090 be bottlenecked by the cpu?
techpowerup reviewed the rtx 4090 with the Ryzen 7 5800x and it suffered. Then they did a review of the RX 7900xtx with both a 5800x and 13900k and you can see the difference. It wasn't so bad at 4k, but at 1440p there was a clear difference. You really should not be using a 4090 at 1080p because even the best gaming CPUs on the market will bottleneck a 4090.
Honestly, the 5800x3d does fairly well with the 4090. I tried both for a couple of weeks and the 5800x3d holds up decently. It's not the best but it's fairly decent at 1440p.

Neither are great 4K cards, 3080TI more so around release but not here in 2024.
Should I sell my 3070 and upgrade to 4070? Or just wait on 5000 series. My issue is I could get a little more now for my 3070 vs waiting till the 5000 series releases. Any suggestions?

i was thinking upgrading my 3080 to a 4070 super or ti super for the better power consumption and future frame generation. But for that the difference is just way too little and I would wait for the 5000series.
Since I moved out from my families home and bought a house, so I don´t have to pay a lot of electricity bills lmao...but that is just not worth it enough to justitfy the switch

2. Little faster native raster in games.

No, it's on par with a 3080ti, and sometimes faster. The 3080ti was a $1200 card. So you're getting the same or better performance for half the price.
You could make an argument. This is what the 4070 should have been. In no way is it a 4060 TI, though. The original 4070 should've been the 4060ti, yes.
The 70 tier card should always perform as good or similar to the previous gen 80Ti card. The 4070 Super is definitely what the 4070 should have been. Look at the 1070 and the 980Ti, they perform similar, but then the 2070 I believe was a bit slower than a 1080Ti, so the 2070 Super came along kinda like here with the 40 series, replacing the 4070 with a Super card to finally match the 3080Ti

Man remember the 3080 Ti was such an amazing card. Power of the 3090 at a much lower price, well at half the Vram but 12 GB was still enough. I am still very surprised it holds very well with the 4070 S.
