Great Job Jason!!!! Thank you for a thoughtfully done and well-created video :) Got my first Asteroids back in March of '81 for location (one of the last new ones) and have wanted to know more about how they work for a long time. Just saw a fellow near my location power it up with the +5 like you did, but you went all the way and fixed it :) Will remember this!
Thank you Jason. This video was exactly what I needed. I narrowed my Asteroids with "no video" down the x-out amp. Thanks for demonstrating your testing methods it helped heaps!
On the test bench, I use the Z-axis to check for health (as soon as the machine stops watchdogging). Then I jumper the test input to ground and you can clearly see the gradient on the scope. When that's there, the machine is either running fine or the problem must be far up the analog side. Did anyone count how often he said "Just for giggles"? Also for the hard to find DAC I once "engineered" (as in trial&error) a circuit using another TL082 and two AD7533JNZ DACs you can still get new (albeit they're not much cheaper than the original replacement DACs)
Trying to figure out which board you brought off eBay to step up the DC to DC power? Also why just not use the switching supply thats right there unless I am missing something...?
Old school arcade Jason bored repair.. So miss that.. But I have to ask are we going to see walkthrough on your arcade games? That's in your have in your collection?
Hey Jason! Great videos as always, I have a bunch of board sets I can donate if your looking. Galaga’s, Joust’s, Missile Command’s, let me know if you want them!
