From a self depreciation Calli to a proud of herself Calli. I'm so glad she's happy with her music and that she's completely satisfied with what she does. That's my kami oshi!!
For real! I'm so glad she's confident now, I remember when she used to stream with gura and play Minecraft and used to talk about putting in so much effort and hoping to get up in ranks. I love she's getting what she wants
I love seeing Calli flex her voice and try more things she can do with it. I find her streams very comfy too while her songs are fire af. The gap moe is real.
Thank you for clipping this!!! It's so nice to hear calli talking about her experience as a musician and im looking forward more for her alt rock direction she is going for!!
@@DeadlySkullZach my pleasure! It was nice hearing how excited she is about her newfound genre/style. I'm hoping to see it yield some more bangers soon!
Recent Calli songs really hits different.. her subtle use of harmonizing to bring out the best in others.. The comfortable switching between rapping and singing.. Even during the recent kazoo karaoke with fwmc and biboo she was constantly harmonizing and matching whoever was her duet partner. I think she really shine when she does that. Ah I cant wait for the return of death star one day!
Calli used to compose her own songs at the beginning of her Career. and a LOT of her early songs are still my favorites from her to this day. I am excited to see what she's been cooking for her upcoming releases!
Yep. Ever since I heard Black Sheep, I could just feel it in every new song out of Calli. Something clicked in the best way. Not gonna say I didn't enjoy her experimenting and tapping into any and every subgenre, but it finally felt like she found HER sound. And then Donmai dropped, and I realized what I had been feeling in her music. I was feeling the drive.
As someone who has enjoyed a lot of Calli's "underground" works, I really enjoy hearing how much more confident she has become in her music ability. She's made a lot of great hip-hop music, but none of it has had the same impact as her more mixed genre music and I love it. Can't wait to hear what she cooks up as she continues to find her style.
As someome who grew up on Linkin Park, Fort Minor, etc - alt/rap rock is one of my favorite genres. So to see Calli move into that direction is really cool man.
Damn. I know Calli has had a lot of growth in her music the last 2 years but I didn't realize how much personal growth she's had as well. And some screaming coming into play? Hell yea can't wait to hear what that's gonna be like!
Recently, when it comes to Calli's streaming, I especially like her VCR GTA streams. I know she's streamed Persona 3 Reload recently, but honestly, I'm more into Jurard's playthrough. VCR GTA, meanwhile, is a breath of fresh air to me, because while I could watch just cute girls doing cute things, I find a girl who properly handles herself in more normal society even in the face of its haters even cuter. As for Calli's music, I think the way she works rap works because of her level of honesty, which is quite valued even with all the boasting, and with what I've learned from hip-hop and VTubing so far, it's giving me ideas about using personas as a rapping VTuber. Like, while I'm pretty sure that Calli and FLOW GLOW are quite light about persona usage and that that isn't necessarily bad, I feel like there could be way more and better done with rapping and VTubing than going Slim Shady and using a persona just to buff up your privacy and/or reputation. Also, I'm down to hear her and Hakka sing together sometime. And as for Calli talking about not expecting to be a singer, I remember how I thought that I'd mainly be a literary writer, but now that I've found myself struggling to have a solid aim for writing and publishing more literary stuff, I decided to go for all this other pop and nerd culture stuff I'm having more fun and productivity with. Besides, I wouldn't have gone for my BA Creative Writing degree I have now if it weren't for my enthusiasm for pop and nerd culture since childhood.
Calli has the gap moe And I'm really anticipating more rock-rap from her which is exciting. I lowkey miss songs like Off With Their Heads where the rap was more dark and angsty lol. For recent, songs like Overkill and Donmai scratch the itch too, and I'd def love to hear her try something with Hakka with his screamo vocals lmao And regarding the singing comparative to your literary writing journey, yeah it's def a lot easier to go at it day by day if it's related to your interests. Glad it's working out for you man! And thanks for the superchat, Tobby!

This reminds me of a yapping stream cyyu and monarch had a while back talking about their covers and songs and how many retakes and delays their process suffered, how their styles have grown and evolved over the years, and how many projects they had on the back burner. These clips and streams are a privilege, to see this other perspective from a singer, their background and thought process, beyond just the end result. It also makes it hard to really praise what you enjoy knowing in the back of your head that it might be one of the songs that the artist considered a compromise or ‘close-enough.’
There's a ton of things to admire her for. She has a pretty unique voice that works well with a lot of genres, from the badass rap delivery, to breathy jazz passages, and slowly leaning more into the rock/metal styles. Hearing her fry scream a little on Cult Following (and more pronounced on her karaoke performance) or the partial false chord scream in Overkill satisfies my metalhead quite a bit. Her ability to transition from fry scream back to an accurate singing pitch quickly rivals many seasoned metal vocalists, and I'm glad she's exploring that more. I probably appreciate her music more than the others since there's more of her in it. No shade on the other members intended, but more often than not, they commission or are handed completed works for them to sing. Most of them are singers and performers, but don't have the aspiration or interest in the songwriting or lyric process, and that's OK... I find some of those songs "neat" but it's not something I can personally connect with and they feel more like unfamiliar cover songs to me. I'm really excited to hear what kind of songs she has bouncing around in her head these days, and taking that hop back to composing more of them herself will help keep her creative vision for the songs true to her original intentions. I admit there's probably bias there as I tend to like the rock/metal production of a person or band creating things from the ground up, and maybe tweaking a few things with a producer when recording the final product; that's VERY different to the way that modern pop music is made. More and more, the new "rocker" outfit style is making sense as a direction she's heading toward, and not just a different look for "gits and shiggles".
It's nuts that she never really tried singing, i think she has one of the best voices in Hololive singing wise. And not just belting, but look at end of a life, its beautiful singing.
This is so exciting to hear, and i'm so happy for her, that she's settling into a way of things she's happy with. God I can not wait for the solo live.
Seeing how Calli evolves over time and keeps pushing is really great. From the really old days when she was just scythe swinging with a dream, up to now where she's letting the music flow and jumping into other styles. Rapper or reaper? Not really either now - she's not reapin' so much and she's not limiting herself to just rapping, if she ever really did. I'm looking at you FakeType. She's strengthened her core skills (including dealing with haters), her voice, learned about herself, and is just gonna keep on going. I still haven't managed to convince a sibling to see if he can get country dancers (line, 2step, east coast or west coast swing, etc) to dance to her music. (He's done it in the past with other genres of music outside the two kinds... country and western.) Calli is hitting a point now where she has a pretty damn big toolbox of musical skills to perform and create. Now when do we get the Calli x Gura Sabaton cover? Kidding. (Unless...?) Have a great day/night/twilight as appropriate to your vibes and time zones everyone.
I love it, y'know it sometimes doesn't feel entirely right for me to call her my oshi cuz I don't tune in her streams that much but if we talk about her music, I am a fan since the very beginning (which feels kinda funny now that she mentioned she wants to be more acknowledged by her music than the streaming), getting to see her grow, the struggle and everything she conveys with her songs is simply amazing, I've listened each and every one and she was my top artist this year for wrapped, she continues to inspire me on the artistic journey
Calii is the one that paved my way to jumping into the rabbit hole. I mean, I heard a few big names before that breaks off into mainstream like Korone, but I never have deep interest in it. Not until I see Knoxhill breaking down Calli's RIP on his channel. That just blows my mind on so many levels. Still, I only watch her clips though. Then I reached her Minecraft phase and my world just expanded to other VTubers, and I never see the light again.
I agree with Calli, it suits her better. I am more into rock, I don't hate rap but it just not my favourite thing, but rap rock? This is actually something I like a lot, Linkin Park is still in me I think xD. I personally like Today Calli more than ever and Phantomine is my favourite Mori's album.
Yeah, when you aren't satisfied you definetly have to go deeper and make the darn thing yourself, that creative drive can't be satisfied any other way.
I'm so incredibly happy she's been hitting her stride. To be honest, I was really falling out of love with her music because I was very disappointed with UnAlive and Sinderella. I didn't like those albums at all. But then Jigoku6 came out and I started getting optimistic about her again. That album felt really personal and honest, and I don't think anyone could have made that except her. She followed that up with Phantomime which is her best work to date, in my opinion. Sonically, lyrically, aesthetically, she's figured out what she should be and how to stand out as a musician. The Calliope that shows up on Phantomime is one that feels more authentic, and just straight up enthusiastic about *making good music.* She isn't distracted by her doubts, or her haters, or even what the industry wants from her. So, if she wants to make more stuff like Donmai, sign my ass up! (But also make a few more Midnight Mayois for me, please)
Y'know, at first, I wasn't really a fan of Calli - always seemed so angry and moody, and I'm not a fan of rap and hip-hop either - but watching her grow and mature over the years has been such a pleasure, and while I can't really afford to be a Deadbeat (or any other group member for that matter), I will always recommend her to others. I think a big part of her growth is the fact that she has so many people around her to encourage her and help her on her path, as opposed to so many artists who just kinda get picked up by the labels and get lost in the mix.
