I bought this game recently, i think through gog, its a little piece of my childhood and i love it, even though it is very barebones it has charm in that nostalgia and the music is great too
For me it ran fine on win 11, although what i love with some of these older rts games is to cpme back to them with more powerful hardware and see how far i can push them, just build an army so big it lags, I think i managed over 600 m1 abrams tanks om world in conflict for example, its so much fun, theres no other genre like rts and its a shame that there is so little variety of newer titles coming out.

Peak RTS for me was Dark Reign. I'm sure there are better/more fleshed out games in the genre but for me Dark Reign just had the right story elements and I really liked the flow of the game.

Every time someone says "RTS is a dead genre" I have to wonder what the hell all these RTS games people keep releasing are.

Can you tell me some of these RTS games that even break the top 50 on Steamcharts?
If not, it's safe to say the RTS genre is something most people don't care about in 2024

I used to play the first games they had. Running around like an army guy from toy story. It was a demo but it was fun. This seems way too serious like they forgot the game was supposed to be fun and not fully realistic. Isn't that why they melted, because they are plastic? They made this be too serious so lost its luster. Which I imagine is why the whole concept died. Well died until the reboot hype hit and they tried to bring it back on a mobile game. But they lost their fans.
you yourself say forgotten...so they definitely were only thinking about money. But...if they thought about fans, they would make the money...thinking about money only means they make very little...Mobile games are basically where franchises go when they are dead or rebooted and still mostly dead.
Look at the star trek mobile game, its just a war game with the star trek skin. Nothing is canon and you can collect Starfleet ships but be a pirate crew whose main planet is on earth....might as well just made a space game where all cool science fiction shows appear due to a rupture in space and time....
I loved the original game, but as I said, it wasn't a kids game, despite being army soldiers, only kids play with...kids being 15 or younger. And now, I don't even think 10 year olds or younger play with them. Unless they visit their grandparents. I personally owned some of them, Army soldiers, Natives and Cowboys. But they were lame. Best thing to do with them is use them for target practice. if they could move they would be cool, but what kid thinks some army guy crawling is cool, or an army guy with his hands in the air holding his gun like hes going through a river. Kids today are much more intelligent and most wouldn't be able to be occupied by such....laziness?
I guess Nostalgia only works for certain things and not for every one.
