Yupp both Tallinn and Riga, love Riga. Less people in Rigas old town and the biiig market - the whole market - is worth a visit. You have wrong about the people. about 63% are letter, 25% from Russia, the rest is mixed folkgrups. Most people understand english. I love the sign outside Gatwick - slow pedistrans...
I do not understand why you mentioned the Buddhist culture their while being in a Cristian country..what ever those anti social drawings or vandalism have nothing to do with any particular religion. Either Buddhist or Cristian country vandalism do exist only the colours and shapes Will different buthan or Georgia or England they do exist that doesn’t belong to a religion.you know that as a fact though you mentioned that in your video that’s sad pathetic
Wait a minute - "despite being on the baltic sea"? 😁 I had to pause the video there, haha! The beaches on the baltic sea are the best! 🥰 Depending on what you are looking for, of course. I guess it's a bit like the food Julia had at the market - childhood memories. Those win, hands down, always. 😊 I can only speak for myself, but the baltic sea is my tranquil place, much like the mountains are for you - I love the mediterranean sea, the adriatic sea - both blue, clear and warm - but the ruggedness of the baltic will always feel like home. I loved your video, as always! 💖💖
Such a beautiful and genuine couple who produce such lovely informative vlogs…I got home from work, lit the fire, poured a glass of wine and vlog from Julia and Matt ….perfect Friday evening…have a great week guys.p.s your skin is looking so good now Julia ..love Louise xxx
I love autumn/winter in Northern Europe. Even when I lived in France, there was a mist most mornings which just added to the mood. My favourite time of year
Another great video, Riga looks lovely, and the food market, think I would need all day there just to try as much as possible, all looked so fresh and delicious, and Julia’s comment wishing her Nan was there, I could just imagine all the dishes she could conjure up from the market, hope all went well while you was back in the UK, and you got to spend time with family and friends, hopefully you’re back on the road again now, anyway as always, enjoy your travels and have fun.
Yes! I have been on a Baltic Sea Cruise summer 2019! One of my best trips!! Denmark, Germany, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, St Petersburg, Finland and Sweden ❤
I love your channel. Never know where you will end up. I’ve been able to see parts of the world I’d never be able to see if I hadn’t been following you. So thank you for that. Have an awesome time with family. Stay safe. ❤️❤️❤️
Julia hiding in the closet was so adorable and i laughed so hard. I would love to travel to the Baltic region to experience what I have heard so much about. Matt and Julia, all the best!
I lived a short time in Aizkraukle, Latvia in the ‘90’s. I had culture shock at first, coming from USA. I loved Latvia, such nice people and beautiful places. I do miss going to Riga on the weekends to the concert hall, restaurants and the market to shop for our weekly groceries.
Hi! Nice video, hope you had a good time in Latvia. :) One thing I want to point out, the song you hear around 26:30 is from song called Dāvāja Māriņa, it is compozed by Latvian composer Raimonds Pauls, Millions of Scarlet Roses is an international version of that song, it actually has been translated in multiple languages. :)
Thanx for that video. Late Friday evening after a long hard week of work. I got to travel a bit. The Light of Riga is so much exactly like where I am, just on the other side of the Baltic sea, litterally. I really enjoyed your video. Looking forward for the next one. Have a nice weekend in London.
You guys are amazing to travel to all those countries in such a short period of time and still be able to function and laugh and smile through it all. We never miss a video from the most likeable couple on UA-cam. Love you guys🙏❤🙏 from your biggest fans . Harriet, Jim and Yuki. Richmond, Va.
You both keep me in stitches laughing out loud all through the video what a great couple the love comes through the video believe me what an honest and loyal couple you are I'm so happy for both you but your travels and the video I was done great insight and the most important thing is it's what I would want to see if I was with you or by myself it's amazing you're interested I'm pretty similar and you like to enjoy food but I was laughing about the both of you drinking two drinks and being incapacitated but I loved it great great video content have a safe trip safe travels miss you always love always Freddie ❤️😀😎😄👍
Just wanted to say, thank you, I am down with Covid right now and let’s say it is much harder than anticipated in spite of being fully vaccinated and boosted up, your UA-cams give me much desired distraction and cheer me up, and you are both very kind and cheerful, endearing people. Appreciate your work, and now I have subscribed to your channel. Hopefully one day I will be able to visit Georgia, absolutely fascinated with this beautiful country, people, history, food and of course who can beat fabulous Georgian wine. Greetings from Australia
Thank you guys for taking me on this trip with you 😄Really enjoyed it and the old building in Riga look alot like the buildings in my neighborhood. Stay safe and greetings from Hamburg Michael 🌍🌎🌏
Hello🤗 I'm really enjoying your trips to all these countries I've never heard and most likely never will go. But through your videos I'm enjoying every minute, also thanks for all the little information about the areas your in. Matt you have such a calm soothing voice, Julia your bright personality, even when you seem tired puts a smile on my face🥰 your soo funny..🤣 ❤ from Texas..stay healthy
Great video! I went to Latvia in 1995 and 2000. I was mostly in Riga and Liepaja. It was pretty run down, in 1995, but had improved a lot by 2000. It looks like it's continued to improve... I really enjoyed my time there. The old city in Riga is really pretty. Liepaja was pretty interesting too. The Baltics have a very interesting culture. It's a mix of their own, Russian, Polish, and Nordic/Baltic.
I get so happy when a new video pops up! I loved the part of Riga ! My cousin and her family were just transferred there! Ironically they left Viet Nam so from one weather extreme to the other ! I’ll Enjoyed seeing the city - so beautiful, the architecture is amazing! I’ve only been to Paris and London , I’d love to travel to the Baltics ! Maybe some day Hope you get everything sorted !
Ah, thank you so much! You brought a massive smile to our faces! What an amazing thing to say 🤗😘❤️ Oh yeah, I bet the weather change was pretty crazy! Hope you will travel the Baltics soon 🤗😘❤️ Thank you very much 😘❤️
I’ve been enjoying all your videos for some time now but I’ve always had this nagging feeling that you seemed so familiar to me. And then, randomly watching an old GBBO🍞🧁🎂🥧 on Netflix whom did I see but…Julia!😀 Anyway, thank you for taking us along on your adventures. You’re both very sweet. Safe travels 🙏✌️🤙👍👏🏻
So happy to find your channel. Watching your amazing travels from Canada. You guys are so adorable and authentic. I am catching up on your videos and can see your growth. Please continue, you are incredible. Julia keep on giggling and Matt you are so sweet. I wish you all the success in the pursuit of your dream 👌.
Great video you two are always happy , I love your painting your a great artist 🎨 😀. Jesus you two weren't kidding the other one that you both were eating was the size of a boat . What a fantastic market guy's so much delicious food 😋
Hey! I was waiting when You will have some time to visit Latvia. I was born in Riga and love the city❤ I’m so happy to see You enjoyed the little time You had there! Safe travels!

Really great to ‘come along’ with you guys!! I’d love to hear about the foods in the markets you film, it all looks amazing and very different. Keep travelling and be safe 🍦🍦🥰🙅♀️🙅♀️
Hi, never been to the baltic region even not after 1991. Well a know a bit of the constant forward development of these 3 states compared to others. I should do once especially when you get such a huge breakfast in the morning. I couldnt walk afterwards. Btw, guess Tiblisi was much more crowded you havent recorded. Wish you a nice stay in England.
Lieliski!!! Paldies, ka apskatijāt Rīgu, un nākamreiz jums jāapskata Sigulda, Madona, un Gulbene, kā arī Alūksne🙂💞 Thanks, for visit to Riga!!!! I hope, there will be next time you went to countryside 🙂🙂🙂 I am living in a willage, 13 km from Gulbene. Sure you, the countryside is beauty one and you will take alok to Liepaja, Ventspils, Kuldiga....🙌🇱🇻🇱🇻🇱🇻
Good video!!! Good to see you two smiling and laughing. I had too much wine a week ago. Nothing worse than a wine hangover. Lol. Of course today I have a whiskey hangover. I just turned friggin 68. I feel like I'm still 45 tho. I can't drink anymore! I get an instant hangover!!😨 lol. Really takes all the fun out of aging gracefully! Anyway, thank you for sharing! So much love!😎🏜❤👍🌏
@@MattandJulia USA is really young and has a lot of talent but England and Wales has the most experience so those two. Iran could open a lot of eyes to. I got England winning it all on my brackets. No beer might be hard on the fans.
Oh yeah, we were really upset to leave but will definitely come back in the future 🤗 (And yeah, can’t wait for you to see what’s to come next year 🥰😘❤️)
Chuckled as you walked along in TbiIisi read the graffiti with obscenities in English - you do such great videos. You certainly should be awarded by the Kazakh govt for services to their tourist industry !!
I am a native Russian speaker from Latvia but I have been living in the UK for nearly a decade and it's really refreshing and kinda unusual at the same time me hearing this constant Russian-English switch lol. My partner has been learning Russian for a few months now hopefully he can be as good as Matt is haha.
@Vadim How is your partners’ Russian going? Not an easy language, vai nē? I am also starting to study Russian. I live in Latvia but never learned Russian, but I certainly hear it a lot! I am interested in the language more because of the “special military operation “ in Ukraine and I am helping with the refugees here from Ukraine. Slava Ukraini💙🙏💛🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻
This song first was written in Latvian in 1981, before A.Voznesanka wrote Russian lyrics and A.Pugachova made it popular all over the USSR. The meaning of lyrics in both languages actually are not the same - one is about the mother and daughter, and the other one is about love.
so Matt as a observer it looks like Julia is healing .. the rigor of traveling is taxing on anyone. Our nations are putting a stress to our liberty and freedom. As a American in the middle of my country, other destinations are more economical and "guided" to more luxury places. Also the privilege of more then one language is priceless.
I really think passport control was up to something, giving out wine! It seemed like Julia had a bad case of the giggles after that,,and they lasted into the next day. Get me a case of that stuff!🤣When Julia mentioned the apples, AGAIN, I was half expecting to see that guy selling apples that told Matt that she was a keeper. I was rooting for you Matt that she would remain true!😁 Don't talk about snow around here. My dads home town on the western edge of New York state on the shore of Lake Erie, Got 2 + Feet of snowyesterday and were forecast for a total of 5 FEET! You guys should write mystery novels. You build up the suspense by teasing us with pending news, and then leave us hanging til the next video. BOOO!!! Seriously, enjoy the time with family, and stay safe. Best to you from Chris in Ann Arbor.🥰
Matt you are one lucky guy - the way Julia looks at you @ 8:10 :). We use some older UK plug standard (BS456 the 3 round pins in a triangle) - only recently adopted the EU 3 pin layout so it is a pain when travelling - fortunately still 50Hz 220V.
You're keeping us on our toes, that's great! 😆 Must say I like seeing all those Ukrainian flags in Latvia. Parts of Riga looks so much like Stockholm, sharing the architecture from the Swedish imperial days... still a crazy mix of old "sovietian" architecture too. P.s. You need to head up north to the place I come from to see the northern lights😉
There are two things that surprise me about your travel; the abundance of different kinds of food that seem to be readily available to the travelers and the cars. As a senior now, I grew up in Northeast, Ohio, which would have been considered a melting pot of nationalities who came here for the industry. In those days you would see many more ethnic restaurants serving wonderful dishes of all kinds. Very little of that now, today serving mostly "fast foods". In fact, I have lived many wonderful places in the US and have traveled to every state but Alaska. I would say that's true everywhere I have lived and most places I have visited. There are couple of exceptions. The second and most astonishing thing I am struck by is the cars, the vehicles. I never gave much thought to it before but it seems to me you have a lot of newer cars, some of which are high end. Very high end. Even when you are visiting a place with apparently less riches there are cars there that would compete with or exceed what we have in the US. Every now and then it would be nice to see a little more of the cars and what they are. Who made them. I suppose you have some kind of an agenda as to what to look at and what would be of interest. I think there are a lot of folks out there who might be interested in the vehicles. Let's see; vehicles, food, sports, scenery, industry, culture, business, schools, libraries (there is a whole history about the development of libraries in the US), military, leisure, family, etc. You better get busy. You've got a lot to do :-)
In Eastern Europe many people buy quite expensive cars considering their income. It is status symbol so they use less for housing, food, etc. to buy a car. Many of these cars are few years old used cars bought from Germany or other richer countries.
Almaty is a fabulous city. I lived there for a total of four years of my life. It's amazing. I understand how she feels. I cried at 4 or 5 times having to leave Almaty. It's a good city. But you have to prepare for the earthquake. It's like Los Angeles.
Fun fact: Riva was a member of the Hanse trading union which covers the baltic sea in the 13th century. Other members were Bremen, Hamburg, Lübeck, Danzig(Gedansk) and many more.
My brothers wife is from Latvia, wnet to Riga on Christmas a few years ago. The city has it's charms. But the people... my god what an unfriendly bunch. They seem to think smiling costs money. Only found 1 decent restaurant with somewhat good gastromomy. It's noticable it's a severely traumatized nation, but they are making good progress, so I hope they will have a reason to smile some day soon.
I was in Riga 1962 when i witnessed elderly woman shoveling snow off pavements, some with wooden clog type shoes, and in the shops sawdust covering the floors / looks much more modern today
Laughing @ "taking over the world after a nap"! lol Totally relate to the food coma! Thanks for the fun video! Had question, how well could a person who only speaks English do in Latvia? For visiting and such. Asking for friend.....it's me. I'm friend lol
Ahahahha, love it! “Asking for a friend..”, I always do that 😄 We found that lots of people were speaking English, personally I don’t think you’d struggle 🤗😘
@19:27 I spy the one word of Latvian that ALL Estonian's know.... Saldējums! (Ice Cream!) @24:57 Lido - Have you tried that out? Good place to eat in Latvia. Also to note about Latvian food, I remember Raviolis are popular. Various fillings and various sauces to put on them. @29:25 Ah yes, the Vanšu Bridge. @23:00 So you have been to my adopted homeland! Tere Eesti! So I perceive you never encountered the Riga bus station. haha.... back in 2000, at least then it still had Soviet era squat toilets. I was using that W.C. to change into dress clothes to attend a concert at the Riga Dom. I had to be careful not to step in the hole!
Oh you two! Hearing that Tbilisi was home to many Buddhists, my ears pricked up as I'm a practioner and this was news to me, so I gazed at the screen looking for those Buddhist symbols! I might have known..... 🤣🤣🤣👍
Ahh No!!! now I NEED to see those unfortunate photos of Matt .. Upload them to Telegram please, so at least I can use Telegram for something (I don't have much idea what to do with it) haha Those Stalinist towers are in all the former countries behind the iron curtain. Three months ago I was in the one in Warsaw and in Prague I saw another one converted into a hotel... I love London, one of my favorite cities. I have been several times, usually in the Swiss Cottage area, I hope you show something of London, some place that is interesting for you. Hope that soon you will be able to see the northern lights, I also hope that I will be able to see them sometime. Well see you in the next video. Love from Buenos Aires
Ahahahah, at some point I will definitely upload our unfortunate pictures! We have so many, we were laughing at them the other day 😂 Myself (Julia), don’t really know what to do with Telegram..my sister sends me funny emojis there 😄 How interesting! Hope you had a great time in Warsaw and Prague 😘❤️ London is one of my favourite cities too! We have London coming this Friday…haha, you will understand why I’m laughing after you watch that video 😅 Thank you so much, you are really sweet and kind 😘 hope we will see northern lights together ❤️ Hope you are well, sending lots of love to you ❤️

Next time you travel to Latvia, I highly recommend you to visit Lido, it's a traditional restaurant with Latvian cuisine 😉
Yes!! I love Lido 😋
@@13912543X Lido is not the same level of taste and quality as it was before that corona affair.
I worked in Almaty for a year and fell in love with the people and the city. I was really sad to leave as well when my contract ended.
Oh I wish I had the ways and means to travel and the courage too ! Thank you for sharing and welcome back to the UK 🇬🇧 for a short time :)
Thank you so much David! Really appreciate it 🥰❤️
Try the Riga sprats. Not the ones in the can, but the ones in the jar are pretty good.
Thanks so much! 😊
aww.. thats actually heartwarming to see you sad to leave Almaty.
But still, i hope better things and places are ahead)
Oh yeah, we were really upset to leave but will definitely come back in the future 🤗
(And yeah, can’t wait for you to see what’s to come next year 🥰😘❤️)
Brilliant vlogg as always guys ❤❤❤
Chuckled as you walked along in TbiIisi read the graffiti with obscenities in English - you do such great videos. You certainly should be awarded by the Kazakh govt for services to their tourist industry !!
Thank you so much Arthur 🥰 really appreciate it! ❤️
Love your videos and hope to travel again next year😊
Thank you so much Helena! ❤️❤️
Hilarious start 😅 You are one lucky man ✌️
Hahaha, thanks you so much 😀😘❤️
I am a native Russian speaker from Latvia but I have been living in the UK for nearly a decade and it's really refreshing and kinda unusual at the same time me hearing this constant Russian-English switch lol. My partner has been learning Russian for a few months now hopefully he can be as good as Matt is haha.
Or russian from Latvia
@Vadim
How is your partners’ Russian going? Not an easy language, vai nē? I am also starting to study Russian. I live in Latvia but never learned Russian, but I certainly hear it a lot! I am interested in the language more because of the “special military operation “ in Ukraine and I am helping with the refugees here from Ukraine. Slava Ukraini💙🙏💛🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻
I loved this behind the scenes ❤
Did you know that composer of the song Jylia is singing with church bells is latvian? Raimonda Pauls
And that market is old German zeppelin hangars..
No I didn’t, but just checked it out, really cool 🥰❤️
And thanks for the clarification on the market 😊
This song first was written in Latvian in 1981, before A.Voznesanka wrote Russian lyrics and A.Pugachova made it popular all over the USSR. The meaning of lyrics in both languages actually are not the same - one is about the mother and daughter, and the other one is about love.
Ah thanks! How interesting 😊❤️
Julia watchin a baking show .......... ill call you star baker .... that is so cool great job ......
Haha, so sweet of you! Thank you 🤗😘
Enjoy your videos. Tim ( Leeds, UK 🇬🇧 ) 😃👍
Thank you so much Tim ❤️
Thank you for sharing
Thank you so much Federico! ❤️
so Matt as a observer it looks like Julia is healing .. the rigor of traveling is taxing on anyone. Our nations are putting a stress to our liberty and freedom. As a American in the middle of my country, other destinations are more economical and "guided" to more luxury places. Also the privilege of more then one language is priceless.
So glad you enjoyed it ❤️
I really think passport control was up to something, giving out wine!
Please consider adding back prices in the market , and what you are eating. One of the tangible takeaways from places far away.
Oh yeah thank you, definitely! Sorry, forgot to do it then 😘
Matt you are one lucky guy - the way Julia looks at you @ 8:10 :).
We use some older UK plug standard (BS456 the 3 round pins in a triangle) - only recently adopted the EU 3 pin layout so it is a pain when travelling - fortunately still 50Hz 220V.
You're keeping us on our toes, that's great! 😆
Must say I like seeing all those Ukrainian flags in Latvia. Parts of Riga looks so much like Stockholm, sharing the architecture from the Swedish imperial days... still a crazy mix of old "sovietian" architecture too.
P.s. You need to head up north to the place I come from to see the northern lights😉
Yes, that’s right, Latvia been occupied for sooo long time and these old soviet homes remind about dark time..😔
Love your videos!
I love this video and blogs ❤️🧡🧡💛💚💚
Love you guys,still!
I m from Estonia and we do have northern ligths,so come again😎
Would love to! ❤️
Tsinandali used to be one of my favourite Georgian wines when lived in Russia, along with Mukuzani.
It was amazing! Haven’t tried Mukuzani yet though 😮❤️
I love traveling like you guys... But i don't know about you? Nothing beats coming back to blighty 👏🇬🇧
We will have a Q&A video coming out soon 🙌🏼❤️
@@MattandJulia looking forward to it guys 😄
Good luck 🍀 you two 🤗
Thank you so much Marilyn! 😘❤️
Other members were Bremen, Hamburg, Lübeck, Danzig(Gedansk) and many more.
great i want to go there now
Glad you enjoyed it! ❤️
“Asking for a friend..”, I always do that 😄
We found that lots of people were speaking English, personally I don’t think you’d struggle 🤗😘
@@MattandJulia Thank you!
just a tip. its more convenient to use mobily app to pay for Riga's satiksme busses. :)
Thank you so much Liana! Really appreciate it!!! 🥰❤️
or buy it at one of the Narvessen kiosks which are on every corner of Riga. because when you buy it from the driver, it's more expensive.
Hahahaha, yeaaah, you should have known indeed 😀
So Georgians have found the right philosophy and religion for them to study and practice.
"It's the worst coffee in the world."
There goes that lucrative sponsorship deal. 😜
True haha! But , I would never recommend something I didn’t like anyway 😀
They give wine around the holidays
Aaaahhh, thank you 🥰❤️
It seems it still hard to travel? So piry Georgia is also a beautiful country. Take care guys
Thank you so much 😘❤️
Greetings from Riga!
So nice.
❤️❤️❤️
What is that black building in the square near the end? So cool!
You're right Julia, Costa is the worst coffee. Great video btw.
Haha, it is awful isn’t it!! 😀 Thank you ❤️
It is too much money in England.. well over priced!.
@@maggie2759 seems most things are overpriced in England these days.
Julia's sweet sweeet giggles after the wine story))
Hahaha, really happy you enjoyed it 🤗❤️
Ahh No!!! now I NEED to see those unfortunate photos of Matt .. Upload them to Telegram please,
so at least I can use Telegram for something (I don't have much idea what to do with it) haha
Those Stalinist towers are in all the former countries behind the iron curtain.
We have so many, we were laughing at them the other day 😂
Myself (Julia), don’t really know what to do with Telegram..my sister sends me funny emojis there 😄
How interesting! Hope you had a great time in Warsaw and Prague 😘❤️
London is one of my favourite cities too! We have London coming this Friday…haha, you will understand why I’m laughing after you watch that video 😅
Thank you so much, you are really sweet and kind 😘 hope we will see northern lights together ❤️
Hope you are well, sending lots of love to you ❤️
