Always bring sunscreen, aloe vera gel, probiotics from home. I buy the Sofell mosquito repellant. Always bring contact lens solution from home. You can buy the spray deodorants in Bali if that's what you were talking about. Matahari supermarket and Carrefour have them. Axe brand which is same as Lynx. Guardian pharmacy was the best place to get tampons.

Good recommendations and I'm also traveling with my Thai wife. Bali is mostly soft adventure but if you venture further off the beaten path I recommend mosquito nets, sleeping hammocks, GPS watch/device and a medical kit containing epipens, antibiotics, electrolytes, bandages, etc. All have played a vital part in various scenarios we have gotten ourselves into.

As a person who travels to Bali frequently and has western and Indonesian friends on the island. You are spot on. You need to bring sunscreen (too damn expensive there), bug repellent, stomach medicine (e.g. Pepto), ibuprofen, and aftersun cream. Also, I would add make sure you have enough clothes because trying to find shorts or swim trunks that fit properly in Indonesia is next to impossible (same for good sandals). Jimmy and Tah, I love your videos and hope you will continue to make more.

nice job with this one guys! you pretty much nailed it! i will say thought that although the bens bug spray is a lot stronger, Deet is one of the most harmful chemicals put in products so just be super careful with that stuff. 🙈also panadol is just Australia's version of Tylenol (: its the same thing but a different brand.

Travel insurance is a must. They can wipe out your bank account with one hospital visit!
Also medication in general for people taking meds regularly can be very expensive in Bali, as they don't have generics here, only original medication.
Anti-rabbies vaccination is a good idea, if you come close to dogs and monkeys in Ubud.
I saw a guy getting badly bitten from a monkey in the forest in Ubud.

    • @TheMagicofJava
      @TheMagicofJava 4 роки тому

Not at all true. Maybe hospitals catering for western tourists in Bali are expensive, especially if they know that you have travel insurance. But in general the cost is less than a 4* hotel (around $100 a night) and that includes the treatment. Also a visit to a 24 hour doctor (Dokter 24 jam) should cost under $20 including medication. Most doctors will have enough English to communicate with you (especially in Bali) and be very keen to use it.

Back in the day, before there were electronic everything, the most important thing for me to pack was books. Travelling through SE Asian, my pack was half books, because you never knew when you would be able to find a good bookstore (remember those?), let alone one with a good English book section. Sure, every hostel had book swaps, but they were usually crappy books - I'm not really into romance novels. So I usually had 4-5 books in my bag. This came in handy when I messed up my back playing soccer with local kids in Surabaya, Java. I spent 5 days laying on my back, and read 5 books in that time. Now, you can have a whole library and video store in your phone! Kids today. Ya got it so easy!! ;-)

Hi, this is really helpful - thanks. You're such a sweet couple. How did you meet? I'm going to Bali with my two daughters next week and we're staying for 3 weeks, although my eldest daughter is staying an extra 10 days by herself. We've not been before and would love recommendations on where to stay in terms of regions. I'm 55 and daughters are 16 and 27. We won't be hiring motorbikes or mopeds as we've never driven these before and don't want to learn in a foreign country, especially when the rules are very different and seemingly scarce. We'll walk, hire bicycles, and use Gojek, Grab, Bluebird or whatever it is that you recommend to use there. We've rented a private villa with its own pool in Ubud (Penestann) for the for 10 days, but we're not sure where to go for the next 11 days. We don't want to go to too many different places - just one or two more - so I was thinking of Gili Air for 3/4 nights, then maybe a different area of Ubud (maybe north) or even another place in Bali. My eldest daughter will go to Canggu for the rest of the time and maybe stay in a hostel or a homestay. We might do sea walking, but none of us have snorkelled before, and I'm not really a good swimmer (I'm also shit scared of sharks), so water sports is not for me. We will go dolphin watching to Lovina though (dolphins are 🥰 but sharks are 😬). However, I've heard that there's not much to do or see in Gili Air and that it's better to go to Lombok mainland, although there's no public transport there and we'd need a scooter, which we don't want. Which part of Bali do you suggest for the rest of our stay in Bali? We like jungle area with a mix of nature and local life. I know it's probably late to rent good places, but I've heard it's better (and cheaper) to find places once you're there and only book somewhere to stay initially. Sorry for the essay, and thanks for your advice and suggestions. Hugs from the UK and Germany! 🤗

Canggu if you want to be close to the beach. Ubud if you want to be near nature. But i would suggest canggu and hiring a driver for a day to head out and explore the waterfalls:) Hope you have a great trip!

I know this is an old thread but I'm currious about your experience in Bali. Hope everything goes well. Btw, I would recommend you to learn swimming if you like tropical life, jungle and beach. It's actually easy, try to learn the breast stroke, the easiest swimming style to master in one or two hour training then you can explore under water life. Btw, Sharks in Indonesian water epecially in its beach never attack people. Even you can swim with them in some parts of Indonesia.

How can lens be hard to find? I can pretty much walk to any glasses stores (optic stores) and buy my contacts just like that. Bali also has those also, to be certain just go to the nearest malls. Plenty of brands, plenty of lens powers and plenty of colors!
Compared to the Netherlands, I (almost always) can’t just walk to the store and buy. I have to have my eyes checked first by the opticians and order one and wait for a week. This happened when I asked a simple colorless contacts 🤷🏻‍♀️

Most products imported from the west are subjected to a 300% import tax, but many food and OTC medicines are made in ASEAN and whilst expensive to an Indonesian are cheaper than in the west. However, there are always local alternatives, for example activated charcoal (norit) costs very little and is great for diarrhea, lemongrass oil (minyak serai) is so much better than DEET in every respect and again remarkably cheap. Overall your video says more about what you cannot live without than what you really need, not a criticism, but others must think 'what do I have to have' and for us all it will be different.

Maaf.. saya memakai bahasa indonesia karena saya tidak bisa bahasa inggris.
Saya dari pulau jawa, sebelah pulau bali.
    Maaf saya memberi coment sedikiy.
    6. Kecepatan memakai sepeda montor.
Misal jalan kecil (kampung) max 20 km, jalan raya min-max 20-40 km, jalan pantura min-max 40-80 km, jalan tol min-max 40-100 km. Harus dipatuhi semua orang dan ingin kayak moto gp saat di jalan raya, mending disirkuit saja dan sekalian orang kayak gitu daftar peserta di moto gp saja.
Maaf sekali lagi kalau saya komentar memakai bahasa indonesia.

Ahh yea we dont use them anymore!

    • @storyandsoundscape8859

Divert Living I found out the hard way that World Nomad seems to be little more than a glossy, niche internet marketing company that will gladly take your money, sell you a policy that is vaguely worded, and eventually pass your claim onto an actual insurance company who will then exploit legal-loopholes in the global insurance market if and when you make a claim. The actual insurance companies that are asked to cover the claims, appear to be less-than-reputable, and based on hundreds of reviews online, they seem to deny the bulk of the non-medical claims, and often, medical claims, as well.
World Nomad appears to rely heavily on Google algorithms and paid advertising/sponsorship of travel bloggers/vloggers, writers, and influencers to create a favorable presence on-line. By essentially buying positive press on high visibility sites, it appears that they have succeeded in effectively burying negative reviews and horror stories, thus creating a the illusion of a reputable and quality brand and service.
In addition to the issues mentioned above, the online process for filing a claim is arduous at best, and during my two experiences with the process (one medical/trip interruption claim and another trip interruption claim), documents were lost; the portal froze and ‘locked me out’, numerous times; and there was quite a bit of redundancy. I was asked to provide information that had already been provided, over and over again. The company’s affiliate was also caught lying about phone calls they supposedly made to me (supported by my phone records) and a claim was closed within minutes after a “24-hour to respond” request was made (supported by time-stamped email documentation). In addition, during my last claim, the company couldn’t even tell me who was covering my claim and referred me to the same wrong company, numerous times, even after the correct insurer was identified and my claim was being processed (and eventually denied). I was referred to two different insurers. One, a recognized and respected global insurer, was very adamant about no longer handling World Nomad claims or being affiliated with the company. The other company initially ignored my claim, then told me it was not their claim to handle, and then ended up being the company that processed (and denied) my trip interruption claim.
      Avoid World Nomad.
