No it's not an eye for an eye in Islam. There are conditions.
You have 3 choices as a Muslim if the victim is from your family.
1. Request blood money. An amount agreed upon by the accused and victims family to settle the matter.
2. Out right forgiveness.
3. Have the accused unalived
It's not an eye for an eye really.
You should watch the video entierely because he explained this actually.
An eye for an eye is a principle. Then it goes deeper, but for islam to reach the people and hit their heart, they have to feel that under islamic rules there is a real justice that you cannot find anywhere else but in islam, that's why we start by establishing the basic principle which is an eye for an eye.

Then I repeat again : an eye for an eye is a basic principle, because it gives their rights back to the victim, then it's up to the victim to give its opinion, depending on many parameters because every case is unique.
An eye for an eye is the only way to protect people's right, i don't know why you say it's not in islam because it's a fundamental concept of our justice system. That doesn't mean we necessarily apply it, it's juste the basis from where it goes, it's the right of every muslim under an islamic charia, why denying it ?

The only way it can be objective is if the purpose was assigned by an independent entity that created life. Assigning Purpose to life automatically appeals to subjectivity with the only escape being to appeal to a creator God.

Hashim has enough experience to know when it's ok to let people interrupting. Here for exemple there was not many interruptions, it was just on one point or two, that's why he let him, because if you start telling people "let me talk" every time they open their mouth, you will never make any point.

I think these points of what is moral and allowed within the confines of religion are fine but the problem is when they get stressed-tested, people tend to justify "their peoples religion" and this all falls apart. For instance, personally I believe the Palestinians are being ethnically cleansed in a way that is an abomination in both Gods and The Worlds eyes. That said, at what point does counter fighting stay within the lanes of morality and when has it crossed it? I know in Islam self defense is allowed of course, so im not talking about that situation or even freedom fighter vs Soldier. What about the freedom fighter vs. unarmed civilian? If a Muslim freedom fighter willfully kills an unarmed civilian -is he then condemned by his brothers or are there no repercussion, leaving his judgement to be dealt in the Hereafter.
This is where the problem lies in my opinion. Basically, its quite easy to have lofty aspirations of morality and condemn "ones own" as "not a Muslim if they commit X atrocity" -but in the heat of the current event, does all of this go out the window? This goes for ALL religions and secular and Nationalist types as well.

Our religion is like you said actively prescribing the measures of conduct during conflict.
We Muslims have no problem with condemning or criticizing missconduct or crimes.
They get their worldly punishment and then the dispute will be settled in the hear after.
I'm going to be slightly pedantic since you used a specific example.
In the case of the Palestinian plight, Israelis are combatants even if they're not presently armed chiefly for two reasons.
By virtue of the mandatory conscription at the age of 18, all Israelis bar a select few are trained by their military. And similar to military reserves in countries without mandatory conscriptions, these trained soldiers never actually leave their responsibilities in the military and can be recalled to serve in a conflict. They're not truly civilians, but reservists.
Second, since Israel is guilty of illegal annexation and perpetual occupation of Palestinian territories, and this was achieved through paramilitary means pre-Israel, and then military until now, then any Israeli who has been trained by their military is actively partaking in their war.
In the case of a Muslim soldier or freedom fighter wilfully killing an unarmed civilian who ISN'T a combatant, then yes they should be judged and punished in accordance of Sharia law. The rules of self defense is clearly stated in surah Tawbah surrounding the verse that Islamophobes love to quote out of context:
"Excepted are those with whom you made a treaty among the polytheists and then they have not been deficient toward you in anything or supported anyone against you; so complete for them their treaty until their term [has ended]. Indeed, Allāh loves the righteous [who fear Him].
And when the inviolable months1 have passed, then kill the polytheists wherever you find them and capture them and besiege them and sit in wait for them at every place of ambush. But if they should repent, establish prayer, and give zakāh, let them [go] on their way. Indeed, Allāh is Forgiving and Merciful.
And if any one of the polytheists seeks your protection, then grant him protection so that he may hear the words of Allāh [i.e., the Qur’ān]. Then deliver him to his place of safety. That is because they are a people who do not know."
Surah 9:4-6 clearly states only those who participated or supported in an act of aggression towards Muslims are our enemies, but even then those who surrender should not be touched.
If a Muslim acts outside of the rules of war and kills an unarmed civilian who isn't an enemy combatant, or one who is but has surrendered, then he or she should be tried under Sharia law for murder.
