The funniest part about this whole movie is at the end when the guy is explaining that it was Roy. He had news paper clippings and pictures of Jason from part 4 just chillin out in the woods... It's like Who the hell ran into the woods got pictures of Jason and got out alive haha.
that's how you tell a story, since it's a fictional world with fictional characters, it doesn't matter if it's in the 80's or not. all that matters is the title name, so the fact it's called a new beginning, that's how they were able to advance the character of Tommy Jarvis. the follow up Jason Lives picks up a year after part 5. Part 4 is the final chapter, so that literally meant the end of Jason, atleast for a short while.
I watched Friday The 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan for the first time today, and I know it shoul be called Jason Takes A MOTHERFUKIN' BOAT! But it was suprisingly great.
It's better than takes Manhattan even though I enjoy when jason punches that 50 pound boxer heads off but it's the worst 1. I enjoyed jason goes to hell especially the unrated version and end. Part 5 and 7 are tied for my 2nd least favorite. Not bad like worst hellraiser or children of the corn films
Dylan mini reviews totally agree, even if the reason why that nervous guy killed Joey is pretty strange and this is the movies problem: it doesn't really give some explenations
I love too so much in fact it's one of my most favorite Friday film's of all time n I like how Jason looks in this movie even tho it's somebody playin as Jason but it's one of my favorite Jason's in this movie of all time! : D
Not going to lie, this probably has my favorite character in the whole franchise, Ethel. I have never heard someone call some one a dildo in a movie outside of this! She is just so crazy and over the top, yet the the actress actually does a really good job acting.
My brother and I are in our 30's now and first saw these moves as little kids...We still quote Ethel from part 5 to this day..We even have his teenage step son quoting the movie and he didn't grow up on them like we did haha.
It makes sense to me that the John Shepherd Tommy from 5 became the Thom Matthews Tommy from VI because he probably got therapy after being stopped from killing Pam at the end of 5 which is why he's calmer and more stable in Jason Lives whereas in A New Beginning he was so traumatised from Jason killing his mother and neighbours and trying to kill him and his sister that he had anger issues and lashed out randomly along with the Jason hallucinations he kept seeing everywhere because of his fear that Jason might come back to get revenge on him which Roy's copycat killing spree made worse because it briefly made Tommy believe that his fears had come true.
I got the novelization of Part VI that explained what happened between V and VI, that Pam talked him out of being the “next”’Jason and got him into therapy.
I feel like it was a nice progression of the character...By part 6 Tommy was over the bs and just wanted to make sure he was dead. He still had auditory hallucinations but it felt like he had a grip on his demons and were using them as fuel to kill Jason once and for all...But not really lol.
LoL I just watched it this morning with a cup of coffee. Hadn't seen it in a long time. It was super entertaining. The kills were great even though the MPAA butchered it( pun intended). I thoroughly enjoyed it. Great review
I really like this movie! Totally underrated, still has that series feel, same with Jason Lives but after except the remake and FvJ all are flawed to me!
You’re waaaay more perceptive than I am Cody. The very first time I saw this I had no idea Roy was the killer. Even when they showed his face at the end I was like, who the fuck is that?! That’s how forgettable Roy was to me. 80 minutes later I had no idea who he was.
I had the same reaction also at the end. I thought it was Jason the whole time, but then when I saw the mask ripped off and the killers face was normal, I was like wait what?! I didn''t realize Joey's dad "the emt" was the killer until I looked it up on wikipedia.
This is the one I typically skip for all the reasons you said regarding Tommy Jarvis. Part 4 and 6 flow together so much better. However, the Psuedo Echo song as the punk girl dies (don't remember her name) is my favorite part. As for the killer reveal, I honestly didn't even catch the guys face the first time around as being anything other than grossed out by what he had seen. Watching it the second time around, I saw that there was a connection. And the truth is, the first time I saw it, it took me a minute to even realize who the killer was.
Regardless of the fact that I'm a huge Jason fan, he's my number 2 fave, I actually like this movie. It's enjoyable and entertaining. The comedy is cool, the blood is awesome, sorting is cheesy, and Deborah Voorhees is a girl from a dream. But don't tell her I said that.
I'm so conflicted on A New Beginning. On one hand this one has some of the best kills, a much more interesting setting, and some of the most hilarious one-off characters compared to the first three. On the _other_ hand it also has some of the lamest kills, an unsatisfying reveal, and a super bizarre ending. I think I like it just a hair more than the first three so far, but not more than The Final Chapter. And I still like the first three so I guess this movie is pretty good in my book. lol
At least Roy was a true reveal. Pamela couldn't even be a suspect in the whodunit mystery because we never met her and didn't even know she existed until act 3. She was definitely fun to watch though.
I hate that musical cue that plays constantly throughout the film. You know that taunt kids make when they have something of yours. That's what it sounds like every single time Jason.. I mean Roy, kills someone.
It was great watching this with my teen son, unintentionally right after watching The Return of the Living Dead. The actors in part V that play Demon and Vic are both in Return of the Living Dead, which is also a really fun movie. Part V is super fun.
To be faire the Part V Tommy seems like it would be a logical step between killing someone as a child and coming to terms with it and needing to assure yourself he's dead and being able to completely move on
I really love part 5 because the kills were great, Jason stayed dead and didn’t come back to life randomly without explanation, and I enjoyed the killer reveal because he had the same motivation Mrs Voorhees did, so I kind of look at this as a sort of remake, but definitely not a reboot
I actually enjoy P5 on up to the point when Jason chases her outside in the rain and she falls and screams for five minutes while he slowly walks up to her. Um Run!, then the tractor coming at Jason (I swear Austin Powers got the steam roller scene idea from this scene). Jason stands there watching this slow tractor come at him for a looong amount of time and just doesn't move. UGH!
Y2JBlackOutF5 part 5 doesn't even deserve hate, imao! They really nailed it by making Roy a new killer and is pretty hard to tell "man, he may be an impostor".... He has Friday the 13th part 3's feel to it, combined with parents-problems from the Original..... Yeah, the motivations were kind of dumb like WTF, WHY DID THAT BULLY KILL JOEY?! AND ROY DOESN'T EVEN BOTHER WITH HIM! The kills were pretty numeros and oldschool, and was a cool movie, even if we talk about action, main plot etc! But Part 8 Jason takes Manhattan takes the cake for me for worst Friday the 13th movie! It doesn't even try to do what it is, spends ONE HOUR on the boat, there are no landmarks that it could show us "Here's NY" and Jason looks terrible! His face is FUCKING DISGUSTING, AND NOT IN THE COOL WAY, IN THE BAD WAY, HE EVEN SPLITS WATER OR SOMETHING THAT MAKE HIM A COMPLETE GROSS FREAK! But after comes Jason goes to hell! A New Beginning is among my favourites or the ones i call originals!
As much as it could’ve been done better I’m actually glad they went that route of it not being Jason because they really stuck true to part 4 Jason really did die so I’m not sure how part 6 would’ve went had Jason really not died and made an appearance in 5 because i love that zombie version and how tommy accidentally revived him
I love the Friday The 13th franchise, Jason is my favorite slasher killer, I just finished saw this chapter and I'm not gonna trash it, yes its not a good movie, I will say that its decent, you can have fun watch it, I really don't mind that Jason its not the killer in this one and they (producers, writers, etc) tried to gave audiences something different and I respect that. Good review Cody.
The hockey mask in this film has blue markings on it instead of red ones, foreshadowing that the real killer isn't Jason at all. The hockey mask used during the opening title sequence is of a different style, with different markings, than the hockey mask used in parts III and IV. This is a prophetic clue to the viewer that the man behind the mask is an imposter. Although "Part V" appears on all promotional material, it does not appear in the actual film. The opening credits simply read: "Friday the 13th: A New Beginning." This is the first film in the series where Jason is actually referred to by his full name: Jason Voorhees. In Friday the 13th (1980), Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981), and Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter (1984), he is only referred to as Jason, while he is not referred to by name at all in Friday the 13th Part III (1982). Coincidentally, Deborah Voorhees shares her real surname with Jason.
Great review. I love the F13 franchise, and I loved this film... until the reveal LOL... I know this video is like a year old and it’s late November but I got SO back into the slasher genre after the Halloween release. Keep making reviews of films!
Dude if possible, can you splice all these intros together as one video when you’re done this series? Just so I can laugh my ass off in one spot. If not, I’ll still enjoy them separately;) and all will be “FUCKIN PEACHY” as you say lol. And btw Lee killed it in this one too. Between wwam, Lee, McRaege and you, I’m always laughing. Gotta go. Those damn anchalotas...... ooooh baby, ooooooh baby.
This is like the Halloween 3 of the franchise. Apparently, this was supposed to start a string of copycat killers, but the fans complained about the lack of Jason and there we go. And much like Halloween 3, I actually really enjoyed this for what it was and was interested in seeing where the franchise would go. In fact, it looked like they had intended on making Tommy the killer in the next installment in the end there.
I've been waiting for this one 😎 I think this one is really good even though jason isn't in it, the characters are really entertaining and the way they take their time to kill the characters was cool. And the funny thing about Tommy is it feels like he's only on here to have recognized name from the last one because this movie focuses the least on him. the part where Pam is being chased is my favorite because it's so annoying that she won't get up but yet it's hilarious because this is typical cheesy horror film cliche where a girl is wearing a wet shirt with no bra and then falling down and won't get up, and don't forget ethal and junior..those characters are freaking hilarious 😂 and that "stew" more like dirty water with leaves in it 🤔🤔
I liked this film. It can live. Normally, when all of these horror film franchises finally go to a mental institution then that's when the series received some significant new life. Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, Cult Of Chucky are two of my favorites. Yes, The New Chapter had a good amount of silliness but it was decent. I never thought Roy was the killer because in Friday The 13th films, after the original I never expected a different killer besides Jason. Sure, rewatching this one I can recognize would could be some hints but I never thought outside of Jason Voorhees as the killer. Tommy Jarvis was different but he was an adult now, and Corey Feldman was still a Goonie. It didn't bother me at all and I don't dislike the film. They still somehow ended UP in a barn but whatever. I think they learned that we need Jason back. Halloween 3 was trippy but I didn't dislike the idea really, but they learned and brought Michael Myers right back.
I agree they made it super obvious it was Roy. Besides that I find this movie very underrated too. At least they didn’t do what Carpenter did with Halloween III though. At least they used Jason to SOME degree.
Even though I liked John Shepard's Tommy significantly over the younger, Corey DID give his all for a kid at the time to make the beginning work. He was already doing a considerably huge amount of child-actor overtime for Goonies and used his ONE day off to stand at night in a backyard and get shot full of freezing cold water to make Friday 5's opening. For an adult you might think that's not hard but think if you had to do it at 13-14 after already working a full week on another movie. He loved Friday as much as we did.
This movie would have worked more as basically a spin-off franchise (which obviously Paramount would never have done) in which copycats try and mimic Jason Voorhees and go on since they “killed him off.” Jason Goes to Hell is kind of like a demonic homage to this in that it sucks and a physical embodiment of Jason is not the central antagonist. Glad they got back to the meat and bones (no pun intended) of the franchise in Jason Lives.
Can't get my nut around this film, Tommys unlikable, the guy Vic who murdered Joey actually doesn't die & yet Roy murders everybody else except Vic? The hillbillies are annoying as fuck & the kills been cut to shit by the MPAA & that ending makes no sense with Tommy becoming a killer because he just spent last 15 minutes helping Pam & Reggie battle Roy & in Part VI Tommy goes back to Crystal Lake to find out if Jasons really dead driving Pams truck. I know this has its fans but this one jumped the shark for me, as ever great review Cody, you put a lot of content into your reviews & your love for movies shines in your presentation.
I generally hate having children in a slasher film because you know they're going to be just fine, the writers wouldn't have the balls do actually do anything with them or the film wouldn't be fun anymore. They did this in 4, 5 and 6 bringing children into it who of course all survive, what a suprise. Same in other horror films like The Fog, Halloween, . Only the IT films had the audacity to actually include children in the story and not wrap them up in plot armour.
I'm a Friday the 13 fan also nightmare on elm street fan anyway I'm glad that Jason became an icon but on other hand when I think of friday the 13 part 5 I get the direction they wanted to go because part 4 was the end of Jason and I like the idea of the new direction now not saying I don't like Jason in parts 6 or 7 I do and part 8 and up to me is not good but anyway back to what I was saying it keeps the story fresh and interesting kinda wonder what would happen if they did what they wanted to do with the series regardless of how poor it did because to me the story is important as much as other things that make series great and it sucks from the story standpoint the series went down hill after this because they did not continue with there original idea with new beginning I just wonder what would have happened to Tommy or other story's and charators that might have developed with the series if they continued in that direction but guess we will never know anyway we have what we have and no matter how bad some of the movies are or how the story just went to hell Jason is a icon hopefully someday we will have a new Friday the 13 series
I feel the same way about the two new line Jason reboots. However I enjoy this one more for the same reason people hate it. It is the black sheep of the series.
For real, who hasn't seen this movie, then afterwards at some point, you have to use the bathroom, then while you're sitting there, you sing the "ooooh baby" song?
Great review love how much you put into your reviews, your scenarie in the back round is that added later? You really look like your in a cottage dude, anyhow part 5 I honestly like it in some weird way it stays with the 1-4 formula of not seeing the killer until the end , after that from 6-10 that formula is gone
A while ago I watched the very first 31 on 31 debrief. What was probably the best part of the whole video was that great debate between Brian Lomax and CP about which was better, "Friday the 13th (1980)" or "Friday the 13th Part V: A New Beginning" and I couldn't help but agree with Brian despite his wild opinions and, I know some people who would agree. Heck, I have a coworker that would agree with CP's side, and we used to have a similar debate going when work was slow. However, I'm starting to agree with CP.
The original Friday the 13th film borrowed heavily from Halloween (1978) and Psycho (reversing the mom/son dynamic). This movie's twist is reminiscent of the book (NOT the film) Psycho II, where everyone thinks Norman Bates is out and killing again only to discover near the end that Bates died early on in the story so the killer is a copycat, but who? I'm not a huge Friday the 13th fan, but I can see why fans don't like this installment because of the lack of Jason, however when I first saw it, I remember mentally applauding that the creative team went somewhere else. It takes guts to do that, instead of 'Halloween 6-ing' the franchise to death (which the later installments did anyway). This movie is not bad at all.
They were going to make a trilogy with Tommy as the killer because he went nuts from part IV. However that never happened fans the best and worst part of any format of entertainment. Would the trilogy have worked we'll never know now.
I generally hate having children in a slasher film because you know they're going to be just fine, the writers wouldn't have the balls do actually do anything with them or the film wouldn't be fun anymore. When you get to Jason X you should do an intro that's set in the future where they're long dead but you survived by being cryogenically frozen like what happens to Rowan and Jason in the film.
Aw Cody its okay. youre not the only one who misses out on 3s company action with twins. i almost had it once too. but the older twin got engaged and moved away. in the middle of the night. fuck
I really liked it! The teenagers could've been better, but Roy has my favourite Jason outfit, i liked that it was a nice mix of 3 and 1, liked the setting but the previous ones were definetly better, but i didn't like the ones that came after Part 5!
The funniest part about this whole movie is at the end when the guy is explaining that it was Roy. He had news paper clippings and pictures of Jason from part 4 just chillin out in the woods... It's like Who the hell ran into the woods got pictures of Jason and got out alive haha.
I found the funniest part the idea you give a mentally disturbed man an axe, what could go wrong there?
That paper clip pic of Jason is the hospital camera that snapped a photo and got it recorded. No one would have survived that close to Jason.
The most amusing thing about this film in retrospect is that it jumps forward about a decade in time and yet is still clearly set in the 80s.
I didn't even think about this lol
It's only supposed to be 1 or 2 years after Part 4, because Corey Feldman was supposed to play Tommy in this one too.
@@ShadowSonic2 no way you can argue that with the recasting tho, yeah it was supposed to be feldman but thats not the movie that we got
that's how you tell a story, since it's a fictional world with fictional characters,
it doesn't matter if it's in the 80's or not.
all that matters is the title name, so the fact it's called a new beginning,

Part 4 is the final chapter, so that literally meant the end of Jason, atleast for

I like part 5. Waaay better than Takes Manhattan and goes to hell

Park 5 is actually one of my favorites in the franchise
I love part 5, it still has the Friday the 13th feel to it. And I like the twist because it doesn't fuck up the continuity from 4 and 6.
Dylan mini reviews totally agree, even if the reason why that nervous guy killed Joey is pretty strange and this is the movies problem: it doesn't really give some explenations
Dylan mini reviews
Feel the same.
I love it too, its one of my favourites in the series after Jason Lives, Freddy vs Jason and The Final Chapter
Part 5 was because of a fucking chocolate bar
I love too so much in fact it's one of my most favorite Friday film's of all time n I like how Jason looks in this movie even tho it's somebody playin as Jason but it's one of my favorite Jason's in this movie of all time! : D
This my favorite one I like the part when Reggie screams when he sees Jason/Roy then runs off and leave Pam behind lol
Haha nice
I love this movie for how hilarious it is. I don’t even care that it’s terrible in quality.
Those damm enchiladas 😂😂😂😂✊✊✊
HELP ME RELEASE THIS DEMON! - Scary Movie 2

This shit box is gross.
Scooby Doo has a better reveal than Roy being the killer. It was so obvious
Not going to lie, this probably has my favorite character in the whole franchise, Ethel. I have never heard someone call some one a dildo in a movie outside of this! She is just so crazy and over the top, yet the the actress actually does a really good job acting.

"I think Corey Feldman was filming another movie."
It was some low budget, straight to VHS movie called The Goonies. PS- Ethel was the fucking shit!
I really like this movie! Totally underrated, still has that series feel, same with Jason Lives but after except the remake and FvJ all are flawed to me!
I love part 5...cool kills, tons of nudity, and a ton of WTF moments! “You talking to me, Sheriff?”

Maurice Tha Beast Vlogz When the Black punk rocker sees finds his dead girlfriend's body you can see her still breathing lol!
John Sheppard's Tommy Jarvis was the Boo Radley of Friday The 13th: A New Beginning. But one of my favorites was Reggie The Reckless.
Oooohhhh bbbaaabbbyyy!
I'm so conflicted on A New Beginning. On one hand this one has some of the best kills, a much more interesting setting, and some of the most hilarious one-off characters compared to the first three. Actually, Tommy was supposed to be 15. John Shepard was just cast.
One of the funniest movies of all time with some great kills and nudity. No Jason not being in it does not ruin it. So many hilarious quotes.
I like what you're doing with the reviews. Keep up the good work!
I don't like the movie, but the part where Joey gets killed with the axe by that guy was funny! Joey was goofy, bubbly, and funny, as hell.
I always remember the character Violet and her crazy dance to that cool song when I think of this movie...
Part 5 is my favorite one in the whole franchise
The final chapter and the remake are my favorite friday movies

@@AcidRayne100 ikr lol smh
Debi Sue Voorhees' bewbs = 5 Stars!!
Lol I originally put PAMELA Voorhees!! 😂😂😂
It was probably a surprise for them to find an actress with the same surname as the series's main character.
@Steve Waltl So did the waitress at the diner who flashed her tits in the mirror.
I personally think the title for worst Jason movie would be Jason goes to Hell... not part V

Jason X. Jason in space.
also part 5 ending reveal feels like a Scooby doo ending

thankful that you guys liked my comment.
the worst is 8, that was horrible

I have always loved this film. It’s in my top 3 films. If the story happened to have actual Jason as the killer, it could’ve been my No.1
This is actually the first Friday I saw 😂. I watched it when I was like 8. I loved it
I liked part 5, it was entertaining!

It's probably my favorite scene of the movie
I always kinda liked part 5, its a fun slasher. Its not my favorite of the series(thats part 2) but its not in the bottom 3 like most lists.
Gotta go. Those damn anchalotas...... ooooh baby, ooooooh baby.
hahaha Thats an interesting idea
These intros are great!
Halloween 3 is my 2nd favorite Halloween movie
I've been waiting for this one 😎 I think this one is really good even though jason isn't in it, the characters are really entertaining and the way they take their time to kill the characters was cool. And the funny thing about Tommy is it feels like he's only on here to have recognized name from the last one because this movie focuses the least on him. the part where Pam is being chased is my favorite because it's so annoying that she won't get up but yet it's hilarious because this is typical cheesy horror film cliche where a girl is wearing a wet shirt with no bra and then falling down and won't get up, and don't forget ethal and junior..those characters are freaking hilarious 😂 and that "stew" more like dirty water with leaves in it 🤔🤔
Oh God that stew looked atrocious. A big pot of water with whatever they found outside
Cody Leach haha yes 😂 I love making fun of her
I liked this film.
I like this version of Tommy. I thought he did a great job. He should have been the next Jason.
I agree they made it super obvious it was Roy. Besides that I find this movie very underrated too. At least they didn’t do what Carpenter did with Halloween III though. At least they used Jason to SOME degree.
I love part 5 very entertaining
Even though I liked John Shepard's Tommy significantly over the younger, Corey DID give his all for a kid at the time to make the beginning work. He was already doing a considerably huge amount of child-actor overtime for Goonies and used his ONE day off to stand at night in a backyard and get shot full of freezing cold water to make Friday 5's opening. For an adult you might think that's not hard but think if you had to do it at 13-14 after already working a full week on another movie. He loved Friday as much as we did.
Great video Cody I thought this was the worst Friday because the characters were boring and not the fact Jason is not in it
Friday the 13th, part 5 is pretty good. I also have that same T-Shirt, Cody.
I got the ultimate NECA Roy Burns action figure while back lol. Roy is pretty brutal. I love the belt kill.
There's a whole Friday the 13th movie based on a misunderstanding about a chocolate bar.
I'm really enjoying this review series Mr leach keep up the killer work bro!!
Didn't start yet: damn man gotta wait after work to watch this
Reggie The reckless is one of my favorite Friday the 13th characters
That intro was brilliant 😂
I kinda like it. 2 4 and 6 are my faves tho.
Dug your fttfchapter review. Consistingly great reviews, dude
Oh, and part 5 I dug John Shepard's bad-ass ninja dude
why do people hate that there isn't Jason in part V
if I remember correctly in part I the Killer is Pamela
The first Friday the 13th I saw in the theaters. I'm with you. Not the worst, not the best.
Hi Cody!! That opening with Lee is super fucking adorable as hell!! The shit made me laugh my dick off💚 great review Cody McLeachy.
The Whodunnit aspect was also in Scream
I double checked the video at the start of it 😂😂
Lee: Hey Cody what's up how are you doing?
Cody: fucking peachy. 😂
They were going to make a trilogy with Tommy as the killer because he went nuts from part IV. However that never happened fans the best and worst part of any format of entertainment. Would the trilogy have worked we'll never know now.
Yeah totally a horror comedy . Thx for review
Reggie the reckless is one of my favorite characters in the sequel. 😀👍
@@lw3646 I see your point.
Haha those damn enchiladas
Great review!
I thought there'd be a whole running gag of Lee and CP not turning up.
Well they still haven't shown up
When you get to Jason X you should do an intro that's set in the future where they're long dead but you survived by being cryogenically frozen like what happens to Rowan and Jason in the film.
This was awesome, and hilarious. Very well done!
I thought it was ok......def not the worst in the franchise but not too shabby
I'm a hardcore Friday fan and yes this one is HATED, although not as much as Manhattan
Aw Cody its okay. youre not the only one who misses out on 3s company action with twins. i almost had it once too. but the older twin got engaged and moved away. in the middle of the night. fuck
I Loved 5 & some of the characters!
I hated this movie at first but I have grown to love it. The death metal band Misanthropy released and album all about part 5, it’s pretty funny.
The New Beginning is not bad but it's not the best either I did enjoy it for what it was
Love the intro guys good work but i honestly don't count this movie in the series like Halloween 3
I noticed Joey looks like a twin to Shelley.
Silly calling the killer Roy, too. Might as well be Don or Bert or Greg. Also sounds like they were riffing The Road Warrior at 11:45
I really liked it! The teenagers could've been better, but Roy has my favourite Jason outfit, i liked that it was a nice mix of 3 and 1, liked the setting but the previous ones were definetly better, but i didn't like the ones that came after Part 5!
