Juda The Rambouillet Wether & His Fleece

- Juda is a Rambouillet that I've shorn for several years now. They are the most common commercial wool breed in Texas, derived from the Merino breed. Fine wool sheep can be difficult to shear, but typically have quite a bit of flexibility in their bodies, allowing for easy maneuvering in a shearer's arms.

I LOVE the way you shear animals! SO many reasons, but I'll give you the top 3: 1.) You are gentle with each one, even the ones who need a little more force. You even talk to the animals when you know they need it. 2.) Your comments, whether verbal or written, are HILARIOUS!!!! 3.) You talk to us, your audience, as if we are smart - you don't talk down to us as if we couldn't understand what you're saying/doing. I had a few shearing videos pop up in my feed, and the animals looked uncomfortable and nervous, and the shearer was kind of rough with the poor sheep! I can understand that when it's a big operation and they have to be fast. However, when it's just a few animals... 😢 Thank you for everything you do for the animals you shear, and thank you for sharing with us. ❤❤❤
Totally agree! 👍🏻♥️🙂♥️
Thank you so much! I’m glad that my videos are engaging and informative. I just want to spread all the cool info about these creatures 🤘🏻💕
My thoughts exactly!
I couldn't agree w u more, Molly. Right Choice is the only shearing videos I need to see for all the reasons u mentioned. Blessings😇
I FULLY agree! The style you adapted for shearing seems more efficient, more gentle, and produces a fleece well worth processing.
I love how you put the information in the little boxes- it was like watching a VH1 Pop-up video! (I’m showing my age)
I feel like I’m showing my age with the video style 😅🤘🏻
@rightchoiceshearing I hate to say it but just being honest, I constantly show my age by what comes out of my mouth ☺️. I just assumed it was my 62yrs on this 🌏 revealing itself 🤦♀️🤷♀️?
I swear that sheep was smiling when she started shearing him! You can tell he trusts her. Love these videos! You girls do an amazing job.
It looked to me like he was nuzzling her at one point. So cute!
My thoughts exactly - at another point it was like it was give her a big hug 💕
我很害怕那粗暴人 會把牠們的乳頭也剃了😢
Rambouillet has such lovely spoingy crimp! Thanks for treating him well with no nicks!
Great video, as always.
9:09 "Good thing there's no mirrors in the pasture. He'd be maaaad !!" 🐑 So funny!
Take care and be safe during this awful heat. 🙂🌞
I am a fairly new spinner so I am learning about what fiber I want to spin. I love your videos especially when you talk about the fleece. Even more so when you show the length of the fibers.
Thank you! I plan to release one every Sunday so we can compare the breeds and what they offer!
I love that idea! My husband and I recently went to Ireland. We got to watch an amazing sheep dog demonstration. When asking questions after the demo about the sheep, and the fleece etc. the guide asked how I was so knowledgeable about sheep & shearing. I told him everything I knew about sheep I learned from Right Choice Shearing on UA-cam!
And this one was only 3 months of growth
As a handspinner, Rambouillet is my favorite fine wool breed (a less slippery wool that joins together more easily than Merino). Thank you for sharing this with us!
I concur. Rambouillet is such a lovely fleece to spin. I just bought one at Black Sheep Fiber Fest. A super multi-colored.
He actually seemed to enjoy it once he got comfortable. Must have felt like a worlds best back scratch.
Such a good boy😍 I mayy be weird but I find shearing so relaxing to watch
I don't think ur weird at all. It is totally relaxing...and satisfying...when u see the end result and how comfy the animals r after being shorn👍💯
Right?
I always empathize with how the animal must feel while being twisted and contorted…but then how freeing it must feel when all that heaviness is gone!
Love the way Juda relaxes into you - he’s done this before!
The reason I love watching you shear is not only the excellent job you do but it’s bc of your love and care for the animal! 🩷
5:49. I’m convinced that he’s thoroughly enjoying this. Thank you for video.
Beautiful job on a sweet little old man.
I love watching you shear these wooly creatures, I’d heard nonsense about raising sheep for wool being inhumane, but the way you manipulate their bodies and move with a combination of care and confidence looks more like loving on these guys than brute force and overpowering.
Cruel practices exist in commercial wool production- it isn't "nonsense". Of course Right Choice and others are sensitive to humane shearing but some large outfits will practice "mulesing", which removes the skin around the tail, fast careless shearing that cuts up the animal's skin, tail docking and castration with no anesthesia, and inhumane slaughter practices when the animal is no longer useful.
@Ravencall Mulesing has nothing to do with shearing, just flystrike prevention, and pretty specifically Merinos in Australia. Tail docking and castration near birth sounds much worse than it really is, all one has to do is watch the animal's reaction. And again, has nothing to do with shearing. As a matter of fact, wool production typically COSTS the farme, as opposed to being profitable.
@@Oak_Hollow I was a livestock vet tech and I was an Animal Husbandry major. I'm very well aware of these procedures in real life and even performed castrations on pigs. Seems worse than it is? Ha, easy for you to say. And I never said mulesing was part of shearing. It is an answer to a problem of breeding for production.
And note that the original question was concerning why sheep raising is often considered inhumane- not shearing.
Did you see Sean of the Sheep? I bet with your appreciation of Right Choice Sheering you'd get a kick out of it.😊
You can tell how calm he was with the shearing and the way he just slowly walks away speaks to how gentle you are with them as he had no concerns.
He looks very good for an older sheep. Well fed and still nice and floofy. Clearly well cared for.
His haircut is perfect were it truely counts. He's comfortable and nick free, that's all he cares about. 😊
Sweet man really just melted into you for his shear! It honestly looked like he enjoyed the process.
Sheep spa day?
I'm very impressed with your channel. I could watch someone shear all day long. Congratulations on the 1.9 million subscribers in just 2 years!!!
Thank you 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Very nice vid!!! I enjoy it when you educate us...I didn't know "wether" meant "testicle-less", and I didn't know there was a time when wrinkles were a good thing, lol. Thanx for the great content!
Most animals have different names for males intact to castrates, females if they have had babies, or never been bred. Like a cow is technically a female bovine that has been bred, a female that has never been bred is a heifer. And males that have testicles are bulls, those that have been castrated are steer. It’s pretty neat to learn em all, which I haven’t done lol.
Juda is adorable & I’m sure feels so much better ❤️🐑❤️🐑❤️
I just love how the animals especially the sheep know that you're not there to hurt them but to help them not be so so hot and be able to feel the breeze on their skin. And how calm they are laying there getting shorn.
My back exploded just watching this video. Holy hell that has to make you sore!
😂 it’s pretty rough the first few days of season but thankfully the muscles build quickly 🤘🏻
It was fascinating to see his ribs and hips after the shear, and realize you actually had to hold the skin more taught than with a sheep with more weight. So no knicks is really impressive. He actually has a face! And a sweet one, too. Nice job and great commentary. Love the sweet moment at the end with you patting him. "Good thing there's no mirror in the pasture" made me laugh.
Aww he's such a good boy 🥰. He just sat & chilled so you could do that 😊. Love the video as always ❤
He's a pro. I wonder if the vibration from your shears tickle.
I looked like he knew the routine. Great job Katie.
Been watching a short time, love it. You're very informative and I really like that. Your excitement is also a great part.
Thank you 🤘🏻
He's got a good meat on him for being an older man. For a second shear I was amazed at how many oily spots he had.
Katie: "He's really excited about this."
Juda: "Ket's not get carried away, miss."
I love watching you reveal the beauty beneath. My mother taught me to spin and seeing this reminds me of that time. You guys are great.
My dad loved those rambleas in his herd. I always thought the rams were beautiful with those horns .
I love how Juda kept his eyes closed some times. Like he was comfortable. You are an amazing Shearer, if that's a word...lol
I cannot imagine shearing sheep in Texas in June wearing long sleeves and jeans! You rock!
And Juda looked wonderful!❤️
Thankfully this is from March. 🫣 I’m super behind in getting my videos up. I have about 10 breeds ready to go up. Trying to post one every Sunday. 🤘🏻
10:51 love watching what you do and how interesting it is! I’m a knitter so fascinated by the beginning of the process 😊
Thank you for sharing your work. There is something so beautiful about your care for these animals that give us so much. The wool will go on to become something that is also beautiful, perhaps even hand spun. As a hand spinner, I have a moment of vicarious pleasure as you run your hands over the fleece, and I recall the warm fragrance of lanolin. Carry on!!
I like the new graphics at the beginning. 👍
Great video as always! You've been such an inspiration to me to learn this incredibly difficult task on my own sheep, and i also thank you for being so informative. Its helping me greatly and im sure my sheep would thank you as well 😊
That’s awesome! I hope you enjoyed your shearing experience 💕🤘🏻
Awww, he’s so cute. Great job! I love how gentle you are with these cuties!
There’s something mesmerizing about watching you shear. I know it’s how you hold them that makes the sheep so calm. But I really Love what a beautiful job you do to some of the worst overgrowth.
I enjoy watching you sheer sheep .idk why maybe it's because you educate along with your videos
Love your stories.
I agree, you are gentle to these babies. Some folks are wretched to them. It hurts my heart. I enjoy your videos. Thanks. It actually is very satisfying to watch you work on them, BUT you sure are breaking your back. God bless you.😊 And please keep making videos!
I enjoy your videos. You are calm and patient with the animals. You are careful not to nick them (nicks happen, I realize that). Plus it's satisfying to watch. Stay safe out there!
Thank you 💕🤘🏻
When I was a child in New Zealand, I would go to shows and watch sheep shearing and wood chopping competitions. It was fantastic to see.
Aww he is so cute! I live this shearing watching it
I thought Rambouillets were naturally polled! Learn something new every day.
God Bless You! You are so kind and that makes God smile!
Just watched a few videos of other shearers… you are by far the best I’ve seen!!! So good with the animals. ❤
He looks like he’s smiling laying in your arms!😊
As usual, you have once again, shown us your gentle demeanor with these little beating hearts. They must really enjoy you on shearing day! Thank you for the humor and quality videos! Keep them coming 😍
My favorite comment,“good thing there’s no mirrors in the pasture”. I think she looks great. She’s adorable too.
Excellent video.
I enjoyed your new opening ! It’s lovely.
Thank you! Darian designed it and I animated it. 🥰
That is amazing how he relaxes & falls into you - LOVE
I know I never have to worry that the animal might be uncomfortable, can't imagine something that big would just sit there and let you do that if they weren't! So fun to watch 😊
You girls are amazing. You are so kind to those animals and it’s great that you speak to them. Great jobs. 😍🇺🇸
Oh the crimp! That would make a beautiful yarn. It was really white too. That will wash up into a great spinning fiber.
YAAAAS Sheer Mommy! Make that sheep smile!
He's sooo bendy, I didn't know there were horns under there.
When he stretches out that back leg!!!!! Just like a cat or dog getting belly rubs 🥹
I love your channel, its strangely satisfying about watching you sheer animals ❤
He's enchanted by you! What a cutie!
Such a beautiful animal ❤️
As a knitter I appreciate the care you take with the animals! As a hairdresser, I wish my clipper skills were as good!
He looks like he is enjoying himself 😊
Love watching your videos, so calming no matter what time of day it is here or there. Thanks 💜🐑
He going to feel so much better with all the hot weather we are having.
You make it look easy but I know better lol bless your kindness!
I came across your channel, and I'm hooked. It's very relaxing just watching you shear.
Keep it up.
Have a good one
Thank you for the introduction! I love learning new things about animals I’m not familiar with. I know nothing about sheep breeds, so thank you for educating me!
Of course! I plan on releasing a new breed every Sunday so there will be plenty to see🤘🏻🤘🏻
I'm a professional dog groomer & I wish the dogs were as calm & relaxed as most of your Sheep, Alpacas, & Llamas. I'd love to learn your trade. But, my poor achy breaky back. 😢 I have a 2yr old apricot Standard Poodle. He's pretty good for growing.
🧡🐩🧡
I've been subscribed to your channel for a long time. I love your videos. I'll support you & your wife as much as possible by watching, liking, sharing, & being subscribed! I love learning about different breeds. 😊 Thanks!!😊
You have to get so “up 😢close and personal” with these animals. To me it’s like magic how you beautifully remove that fleece.
You make me want to shear sheep😂😂!! Looks so effortless, knowing it is not! I'm impressed how fast you are and don't knick them, but also being so kind&respectful to every animal you come across with!! Not just a professional but also a gentle pure soul❤! Tnx for educating us💝, You two got a fan from Belgium👌💖👊
I love how this sheep just lay on the floor for you to shear him, you over-powered him with you warmth and kindness, he looks so happy now all the heavy wool has been taken off, thanks to you ❤
My back aches just watching this. Stay healthy maam. You do such a great job.
Love watching you at work. I've learned so much and on top of that I get to animals without fear. That days everything about you.❤🐑
I love being part of your tribe❤
I’m glad you are 💕🤘🏻
You are so gentle with the animals as you shear them.
I used to spin wool, it was the most stress releasing thing I’ve ever done.
I never got to spin any Rambouillet though, looks beautiful.
I’d love to watch you in person but I live in Ohio.
Love what you do Katie! Thank you for sharing with us.
Looks like the baby almost went to sleep at one point. Beautiful 🥰🥰🥰
What a beautiful baby boy!!!❤❤❤
You’re so lucky you get to cuddle these sweet cuddle bugs! ❤
He was so calm ❤
It must feel so much cooler with warm weather coming! He was a good boy❤. Great job!
He has such a blissful look on his sweet face. 🤤
It's like his saying I give you a week to stop giving me scratches. 🥰
I can only imagine how great that boys fleece was back in the day
Hullabaloo Katie! Good to see you!🙂
Sheep being shorn by a pro look
1) very comfortable,
2) very undignified.
All the pleasure of getting a nice haircut without all that time wasted. (I was told, they need about 4 to 6 hours for haircut and hair colouring, I can barely sit through a haircut).
You definitely communicate with these animals, I can't describe exactly how, I just know because I do it too. They know you're a Safe Person
It is so soothing watching how efficiently you work and you're so kind to the animal.
Katie, what a tough job!
I felt bad for the the old guy but I’m glad he made it without a nick.
I feel bad for the elderly as well. I know those hip bones can’t feel great on the wood. That’s why I don’t care so much how they look, just trying to make them feel better. 🤘🏻
I love watching you trim so relaxing!
I just love your videos I wish you would do more and post more often
I have watched others sheer, but realized I sit there saying, "You're doing it wrong!" I am so excited to see new content. 😍
Hi Katie,
This past weekend I went to a craft/art show and there was a couple guys there with some sheep. After watching your channel for a very long time I paused to see what they were going to do. The weather was really bad, it was almost 90°. Two of the sheep were in a cage in the back of the truck waiting their turn, they were EXTREMELY thick. The one they just got done shearing had several spots of blood from being nicked. I knew what had happened but there was lots of kids asking how they could get a red polka dot sheep of their own. I kept my mouth shut and my head down. I wasn’t sure if I should say anything.
I was surprised at how big they were. When I see sheep in a field they don’t look that big.
I appreciate you how you take your time and do your best to not nick them. 💛🧡
Btw, I’m very allergic to wool, but I love animals. Haha
Ah. Not great to hear but glad they were ignorant and not upset by it. A bit late for shearing now with the heat but at least they didn’t have to suffer the rest of the summer. 🤘🏻
He's like "Hurry up I'm dyin in here!!!" and then "aaaaah, that's the ticket."
Love your videos, your so kind with the animals. Do the sheep get excited to get shorne? They must feel so much better after!
Wow! I'm late to the party, but I gotta say that you're definitely a bad-ass for being able to wear protective clothes like that! It's been over 100 degrees and during that time, it was 110. And I'm shaded from our land being heavily wooded... Juda is a very handsome boy. Still excellent wool! Surprised that they never considered breeding him, but I get that he's living the good life as a pet! ❤❤❤
I have a chocolate brown fleece I am working on now. It is amazing wool, but it's a bear to scour! ❤
