      Hi Monsieur L'Estrange 👋 (I love that name 😁). Came back for another listen. It should have been called Les Yeux Sans Visage 😉. Billy Idol's song would have been an appropriate backdrop, too. But that piano piece was haunting and lovely. Thank you, you do such awesome work 👏 😀 😊 👍 🙌. Wouldn't it be terrifying if the quality of people's souls were reflected in their countenance?

      Oh wow. I know this comment is a year old, but had to react to the idea of seeing the quality of a person's soul reflected in their face. What an idea that is for a story involving a legend or myth!
      I imagine it as literal, in which case people's expressions would be kind of strangely inverted as the reflection comes from within. And you can't hide it. 😮

      @thehangingparsiple5692 People without empathy are disabled from seeing beyond what is presented. I don't believe it is at all outlandish to "see" with gut intuition, and pick up the truth of a person.
      If you haven't already figured it out, I'm weird 🙃😁😊

      I rather enjoy reading your weird comments!
      I agree about gut instinct most definitely.
      I always remember as a child how I never liked or trusted one particular friend of my parents. I didn't know why. This friend would sometimes babysit me and my brother, but I wouldn't stay in the same room as her when she did. I was very young, but had I been older I still wouldn't have been able to put my finger on what it was about her, because she was very quiet and kind to be honest. we all know what they say about children and animals having sixth sense...well it later turned out this friend had served time in the past for violent crime and two serious assaults!

    Perfect cadence and tempo of speech, music adding just the right scaling of dread and anxiety. A beautiful voice is empty without emotion. This was impeccable.

      To be honest, there are quite a few stories I've covered here that, to my knowledge, have never even been adapted for TV and a few of them could be expanded into terrific films. Maybe one day...
      "The Others" is a classic.

    Has anyone bothered or been compelled to consider the parallels between St. JOAN and the garden Dame? The burning, the changed Visage or countenance after death..? I don't know, having only begun and not Catholic, if I'm chasing after shadows which are not there or not but thought it'd be interesting to consider

    • @EnCryptedHorror
      @EnCryptedHorror  2 роки тому +1

      I'd say, given the specicifity of the locale, Burrage meant to connect the two. I suppose Joan (described in the story as the greatest woman who ever lived?) is a contrast to the woman without a face who was wicked and also committed the sin of suicide...

      @@EnCryptedHorror yes that’s the most I could make of it- I don’t find anything of the author suggesting he would have any reason to hold a dislike toward Miss Of Arc’s character, and I am not sure but I think writers of the era were less inclined (if at all) to inject their own political or theological conjectures or opinions into their work, a la Dan Brown

  • @gohboy56

      Unfortunately A.M. Burrage is no longer around to consult so you'll have to have my take 😄... When he was beckoned to see the weeping lady on the bench she revealed her mutilated, disfigured face and presumably touched or embraced him, and laughed. He never recovered from the shock.
