@@interabang Lol. Yes, I’m aware of that fact. I remember what I was doing when I heard the news. My original post said I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone who doesn’t like Marvin Gaye. Someone wrote back his dad didn’t. I then informed the person that I had never met his dad. So my original post still stands true. I’VE never met anyone who doesn’t love Marvin Gaye. I remember this song coming on TV around 1983 as a kid along w/ Michael Jackson's 'Billie Jean' music video... I was shocked less than a year later, it came on the news that Marvin Gaye was shot dead by his own father during an altercation.
Marvin Gaye was such an icon in music since the 60's... and he scored one of his biggest hits just before his death... life can be so unfair...

    • @donaldduck2139

@@donaldduck2139 He was killed just before his birthday... We don't know the details, but we do know Marvin Gaye was struggling w/ cocaine addiction and he (likely) sought his parents' help to try get clean.
However, his father was a conservative church minister and (by all accounts) a very intolerant man who did not approve of his son's music career or lifestyle... So, their relationship was not a good one... Marvin Gaye (I'm guessing) wanted his father's approval his whole life, but never got it.
We can gather that just before Marvin Gaye's birthday, he got into a heated argument w/ his father and it got physical... Marvin Gaye was not in good shape coming down from drugs... His father was later diagnosed w/ a brain tumor that made him unpredictable... He shot and killed his son in Marvin Gaye's bedroom.
Marvin Gaye Sr. (his father) was charged w/ voluntary manslaughter after his tumor was diagnosed... He passed away in 1998.

Lex's story about her dad singing this song to her mom is so cute. Yeah, the actual lyrics might as well be French to a small child. Marvin Gaye is one of the giants of pop music and soul. Early on, he wrote hits for other artists at Motown before becoming a performer himself. And his later album, What’s Going On, is a masterpiece.

The whole world also knew who M.L.K. and Malcolm X were.
But…the whole world DID NOT love them. And, neither does this couple. A great part of this couple’s online appeal has to do with their open distain for black people.
They remind me of other black “conservatives”, who pander to whites-for personal economic gain. But, there’s no love lost; because, I believe that the people and issues that they so flagrantly despise?…aren’t very fond of them either.

Gaye intervened in a fight between his parents in the early afternoon hours of April 1, 1984, in the family house in the West Adams neighborhood of Los Angeles. He became involved in a physical altercation with his father, Marvin Gay Sr., who shot Gaye twice, once in the chest, piercing his heart, and then into Gaye's shoulder.[103] The shooting took place in Gaye's bedroom at 12:38 p.m. The first shot proved fatal. Gaye was pronounced dead at 1:01 p.m. after his body arrived at California Hospital Medical Center, one day short of his 45th birthday.

This was one of Marvin’s last hits (early 80’s). He was mainly from late 60’s and through the 70’s.

Marvin Gaye is one of the very few people that I put at the top. He is in a very exclusive club along with Wilson Pickett, Ray Charles, Gladys Knight, James Brown, Aretha Franklin, David Rufin, Levi Stubs and Otis Redding.

Marvin did take some flack after releasing this song, but we listened to it anyway.
