@@MicheleLeeMDcan cataract surgery with one of the MIGS be done with numbing drops and no sedation? For the average patient what is your favorite Mig procedure or device? I'm looking for quick, easy but good results.
Thank you for this video. i have Cataract/glaucoma surgery on my left eye (3 Sep) and my right eye on 23 Sep. I was nervous, but your videos have made me feel better about taking them.
Hello Dr.TaiThank you so much for the info! I was seeing rainbows around lights and extreme haziness like in a smoke filled rm. I thought I had dry eyes, went to the opthalmologist and when he came in the room he looked stressed. He said I had closed angle with eye pressure of 71! He did emergency surgery that day! He said he didn't want me to have a stroke in my eyes cause that would be it! I just turned 62. I take combigan bid and prednisolone acetate qid. I seeclearly with no rainbows present.
Good morning Doctor, If patient have glaucoma and Cataract problems then Cataract operation with glaucoma operation is better or without glaucoma operation is better Please inform Thanking you
Drs Maki and Lee, I’ve had open angle glaucoma for about 34 years now, and recently told by my Ophthalmologist that my cataracts should be addressed with surgery. My Ophthalmologist asked if I wanted iStents implanted during my cataract surgery. I never heard of iStents, but I’m now familiar with the few different types after having researched them. My glaucoma pressures are routinely 14-16, managed with two different glaucoma eye drops. I’m wondering about the successfulness of the iStent, based on your experience. Are iStents generally considered to be a permanent solution, or a temporary one? I’m trying to decide whether to have the iStents or iStent inject W implanted, even though my glaucoma seems to be well controlled currently. Thank you for any feedback. Jeff
In my opinion I would not perform a surgery if you're pressures are controlled and you're not having any issues like field visual loss. Surgeries are normally a second step in controlling IOP if the drops don't work.
I am 71 and a patient with Glaucoma, POAG, with a family history, for the last four years; it manifested with water provocation early morning in 2019. The IOP never crossed 16 to 18 and the thickness of Cronea was around 507 and 513um. I was placed on Prostaglandin Analog drops, Travanoprost/Bimatoprost Once a day. In 2020, one early morning, I lost my vision in the Right Eye and was diagnosed, CRVO, and is being treated with regular monitoring with OCT & periodic intravitreal Administration of Accentrix/Eylea. The Glaucoma Specialist in order to reduce the possibilities of CRVO in the other Eye decided to do Peripheral Iridotomy as well. I am now on the Carbonic Hydrase Inhibitor group, Brinzolamide eye drops Three times a day; the IOP remain around 14-15 by Applanation Tonometry. Now I have developed Cataracts in both my eyes and undergoing surgery for that! Should I be thinking of having Glaucoma Surgery along with the Cataract? Amongst MIGS, where does the BANG stand? What are the other options for surgery if surgery is the right option for me? I am messaging from India and am from the medical profession but am not an Ophthalmologist!
Thank you for sharing your story and I am so sorry to hear about all the issues with your eyes. You can definitely consider a MIGS procedure. Not every surgeon does every MIGS procedure though so you should discuss this with your surgeon and see what they can offer you. I hope everything goes well - best of luck!
Thanks for the valuable information! Can a patient of Goniotomy and Extracapsular cataract removal resume boxing and wrestling training and sparring after the healing period? Thank you.
My pressure in my eyes keep shutting up too high is because of I shot for Diabetic neuropathy they’re gonna give me a little thing put in my eye, but it’s only gonna be one in both of my eyes. They talk about it’s gonna be like 30 minutes.
In regards to astigmatism and lens replacement surgery, apparently there is even a chance of causing it, or worsening it as a side effect? If so, is there any difference between mono-focal and multi-focal lenses in the possibility of this occurring, or not?
Astigmatism induced by wounds will be accounted for when measuring for lenses but if you are worried, you can ask your surgeon about your specific case. Best of luck!
Yes it is safe. Most of the time your eye doctor will start you on steroid drops and/or pills before surgery to decrease your chance of a flare. Hope that helps!
Cataract surgery on my left eye cured glaucoma in my RIGHT eye!!! I think I actually had white coat ophthalmic hypertension, which was "cured" by experiencing complex "premium" eye surgery, after which a Goldman tonometer was no threat at all.
I had glaucoma but no cataract however my doctor offer me phacoemulsification as an option to lower my IOP and will replace my eyes natural lens. Is this type of surgery clear my vision after?
Interesting to find out that cataract surgery can have a favorable impact on glaucoma in certain situations.
Thanks for joining me and Dr Maki for our glaucoma series! Let us know if you have any questions, and see you in the next video 🙏
Excellent video as always!
Thanks, as always!

@@MicheleLeeMD iam sorry i forgot to add cataract surgery for glaucoma ... Still safe?
