This was my first Famicompo, so I'm really happy to have gotten 10th place/48! I made it mostly on a school computer over the course of 3 weeks and spent the last few hours mixing it at home.
As you can tell (especially at the end. I kind of regret the DPCM spam there) I didn't really know what direction to take the piece so I opted for adding more ornamental, sparkly things rather than improve the actual composition which in retrospect was a mistake. I feel like if I had started this earlier than 3 weeks before FCP4 entries were due I would have come up with something more full-bodied and worth its 4 minutes. But hey! I got a lot of good feedback when results came around and I know what to do now for future compos. Everyone had great entries and I'm glad people enjoyed mine too.
Extra notes:
-the 5B drums in NSF format are crushed and sound really bad. this is the .wav format being posted, so the 5B drums sound like the way they do in-module. finally!
-I actually came up with several iterations of this (hence filename originally being "5"; i named it hello because i used a bunch of dial tones in this one) with slightly different chord schemes but ended up using this one because of how much dumb stuff I could put in it and get away with.
-sorry the waves barely move. the module has low volume channels. i had to amplify the song in-editor.
-I'm never using the 5B chip again

found this from your lifetime achievement award cover getting recommended to me, this is fantastic stuff! Love the way the instruments interplay here, and the wobble on notes adds a lot of character/texture to the piece that I dig in a major way. Also that little closing tag will stick in my mind, from what I've seen you've got a way with NAILING shifting tones to sound speechlike.
sounds like a wholesome racing game's main menu screen
lmao this popped in my recommended out of nowhere, very cool stuff c:
I really like this one
i love this!
It sounds like a trailer for a video game
Oh yo could you throw the NSF / FTM file up somewhere? All good if you don't want to or can't etc
www.mediafire.com/file/mwufsiwr5ei9xgd/hello.ftm/file here you go! the link will expire in 2 weeks. the NSF is also available at the FCP4 original results page (in description), but i think the website is down right now
@@14.4ml Thank you! Link is still good after 3 weeks btw
