I just bought a 83 F21 about a year ago and I remember watching this before I got it, first day on the water I did all the demos, just a blast. Great little boat
Had my first solo sail on my new (to me) Freedom 21 (Blue Raven) on Lake Pond Orielle. I love it. Can't wait to explore this big Northern Idaho lake with her.
I have a Hoyt designed boat, the Escape Rumba. I get a kick out of this old video, the comment about women on the boat was classic! he designs with passengers in mind.
I have an F25-1985, and it is rigged the same way- but doesn't seem to be able to do those maneuvers quite as quickly as there is more drag with a wider keel and added length- or maybe I am lugging too much gear...
In stronger winds (20+ mph) the F21 will actually plane. My PHRF is the same as a Catalina 22. Few mono-hulls can match my F21 off the wind but to windward I loose time. In light air (under 12 mph) there is a jib/staysail option available but it is not worth the added handicap. I generally don't bother to race if the wind is under 10 mph. Club racing I am usually the the slow boat in my PHRF fleet consisting of S2s, Elliott 770s, Flying Scots, and Morgan 25s. I have won an endurance race.
I raced Cal-20's that have a lot more options then these. I beat 30-50 footers w/ my "tiny" Cal 20! This F21 seems to be a rather interesting simple design. Anyone modified mast settings? Don't u miss that this boat doesn't have more advanced sail setting options? Where's the options for a jib? What about the option 4 an overlapping jib for more speed or options for adjusting main sail, jib & halyard settings to outclass opponents? Video=fun but true Sailing is better w/o bringing ur gal along!

You're so welcome! Are you going to try spinning some circles amid the dock slips like he did?

My father has one of these available in southern New Jersey
Imagine what Gary would be doing today with sailing....
He's still alive.
believe you me - it's more fun to sail with a partner that smells better and snuggles nicer..... hahaha, nice. I'm sold!
"Isn't this better than some of the crews you've had to sail with?" LOL!!

how much do these go for?
It depends on their condition.
That boat looks extremely tender. Two people on the rail with one reef in ten knots or less and heeled that much?! No thank you. 👎
