I don't know why, but this is actually the softest recoiling single shot 12 ga. I own or have ever even fired and my son agrees. It's so comparable to our H&R and NEF guns in appearance, but for some reason known only to the Chinese it has much, much, very much less felt recoil which is the only reason I have not sold it. I've reloaded and handloaded my own shotshells for thirty some odd years as well so I can control payloads and recoil in any gauge that way as well. I have a wide assortment of chokes for it including an extended 5" Browning (not currently manufactured) rifled tube for slug and ball. I think it's a great option for replacing the NEF even though it's made in China which normally would have been a deterrent for me, but for $85 NIB I couldn't turn it down!
@@MigsOnGuns I found it online for that price so I did have to pay an extra ten bucks transfer fee from a neighbor that does transfers. I don't know why they were selling the guns that cheap though unless they were going to stop stocking them. I've had it for maybe three years. I wish they had it in 18" barrel threaded for chokes as it would make an excellent backpack shotgun for a camp site. With the right tube it could be put to use to hunt just about anything in a pinch.
Mine stock I used 2 3/4 and 3” shells was hard to shoot Added a cheek rest and gel limbsaver recoil pad helped a lot able to shoot 100s of 2 3/4 and 3” shells in one day at a bachelor party I absolutely love shooting it now I even shoot 3” turkey loads and slugs with ease now very comparable to 30-06 in felt recoil on the most stout of 12 gauge loads
Good test, good video! Nice shooting actually. I have the same gun and shoot the Federal low recoil ammo out of it. Very accurate for a smoothbore gun.
Yeah… you could absolutely tell that slug was BRUTAL! Not surprised 💥 I’d bet if you shot the shorty slug prior the all the other shoulder abuse I’d be even less uncomfortable. Still gonna punch though. GREAT review 🍻
Bought one two weeks ago. Very disappointed that it did not eject the shells properly or consistently, in fact had to “push out” the spent federal shorty with a cleaning rod. Gun store “fiddled” with it but had to send it back to Savage for repair ( I hope). Anybody else have ejection issues with their 301 12ga.?
Thanks for watching! If a guy could only have one gun for life that had to do everything this just might be it. Thankfully we’re spoiled for choice these days haha
Hey man, me again. I love this gun so much!! Would you dume a big favor and test different loads through a turkey choke? I'm thinking of using whinchester super x triple aught buckshot for deer. I know, prabobaly gonna hurt like the dickons, but noone else has a spasific review on this shotgun with these rounds. P.S: You need more subscribers!!!
The gun is not balanced that's why u feel more of the recoil some weights in the stoke should help i used 16 ounces in mine i shoot 3in oobk magnum shells for deer sometimes one handed but again im not a wimp
Hilarious how people complain about a shotgun in 12ga are "uncomfortable" to shoot. Need to gain some weight, use a shoulder pad, practice more, drop gauge size, or..... Dont shoot 1.
410 is hard to come by and expensive. 20 gauge (at least for slugs) has as much or more energy than low recoil and shorty 12 gauge. I have no practical reason to own the 301, it’s just for fun.
Liked your short review. Straight to the point.
Thanks for watching!
@@MigsOnGunshow thick is the barrel I wanna get one and cut it down to 18.5
@@Brandon_obs_ls I don’t have a calliper to measure with but I’d say the barrel is on the thinner side.

Nice. A limbsaver would be a big help. Only reason I haven’t tried is cause of how long it would make the length of pull. Thanks for watching!
I put a very thick rubber pad on the stock of my single 12 gage when I was a teen, which helped a lot.
A interesting fact... Recoil is no reason to cry!!! Bazinga!😁
my 301 12g. is fun to shoot. I absolutely love it ... light weight. rock solid . guns and comfort just don't mix...if you want comfort buy a pillow
Thank you for the demonstration.

Hey gangster i did a review on the same shotgun its a beast. Nice video keep it coming.
I remember seeing your review, one of the only videos of someone actually firing this gun in 12 gauge! Thanks for watching!
Great review my friend, thank you for sharing. 😊

I have this exact shotgun, but its the turkey model. Love it!!!
Nice, thanks for watching!
how does it pattern at 30 - 40 yards?
Can you put weight in the stock? On my hard recoiling guns I usually put wheel weights in the stock helps a lot.
The stock is most certainly hollow so yes, putting weight in it is an option. I might try that sometime, thanks!
Good video!! it's a good survival shotgun

Did your 301 come with sling studs already installed or did you install them?
Comes already installed.

Lol, I just thought I'd ask anyway. Maybe you could do another many shell review, but with different choke tubes? Thanks!!@@MigsOnGuns

i have many 12 gauge shotguns and the one he used in the video i will say the 301 does kick like a horse
The shortshells are also way cheaper than most 12ga shells. $10 for 10 rds
And also take up half the space.
That has not been my experience unfortunately. Short shells tend to be nearly double the cost of the cheapest 2 3/4” shells.
@MigsOnGuns I've been lucky then. They're $11 for a box of 10 meanwhile the cheapest 2 3/4 slugs I can find are $6.99 for a box of 5, in store.
Dude it’s not a take down model lol all single shot shotguns do that for cleaning. And if you think it kicks hard you’re a wimp lol
I have an Emperor single-shot that does not take down (at least not without a screwdriver), it just folds over very far.
If you do not like it buy you a 20 are 410.
