- Stains - especially on your favorite leather handbag - seem to be inevitable. But we've got some home stain-removal remedies that might just save you from this style bind. Today, we're tackling a few of the most common stains: water, ink, and oil. If you use alcohol DO NOT RUB! I've used alcohol to get stains off of leather especially pen marks but it is important not to rub because you'll rub the color off. Purel works well too since it's an alcohol gel. Gently dab at the stain,let dry and reapply and dab again. Repeat till stain is gone.

I find it interesting that you don't use a light color leather handbag. You also don't show an untreated leather handbag. Shame on you. Be very careful when instructing your viewers on using alcohol. It can strip the dye off the bag and damage the leather. It can also leave an unsightly stain. Many of these how to videos use dark handbags. Some things can't be removed unless done by a professional.

The tips given here will make things worse if you don't have removal experience. The alcohol can strip leather of its color if too much of it or too much pressure is applied and can even begin to tear on more delicate leathers. Water stains are really hard to get out of not patted and dried immediately. And corn starch does very little to remove oil or food stains.

Oh my! I just lifted the off-white color on my vintage Dooney & Bourke leather handbag trying to remove a couple of ink stains using rubbing alcohol. I decided to try the tip on this tutorial, since I no nothing about removing stains from leather. I dabbed it on with a cotton ball, as instructed in the video and lightly rubbed. It made things much worse that the tiny, faint little ink spots that I was trying to remove. I immediately sprayed leather cleaner on it trying to salvage the purse but it looks like the damage is permanent! Help?! Does anyone know how to fix this???!

I've restored 2 full grain leather bags (1 Patricia Nash and 1 tote bag handmade in Portland) by submerging them in cold water and Dawn for 30 mins, rinsing well, pat drying with a towel, hanging to dry for up to 6 days and then treating the leather with Lexol (3x).

Im trying acetone with a q-tip. The first light treatment lifted a bit, and i dries fast. I'm going for a second lifting now.

Just used the same way to use a Alcohol (same brand as shown in this video clip) to clean my Rebecca Minkoff M.A.C, camel color, cuz black color transferred from my coat to this brand new M.A.C. The result is horrible. The alcohol can totally took the original camel color away and turn into light beige. And make it looks dull. Be careful about these tips. I didn't try every tip in this video, but I can sure guarantee the alcohol can just make your precious hand bag's condition worse!!

do NOT use alcohol on leather bags! if you have tiny ink mark in a location that is on a tiny corner, try hair spray on a q-tip and be super gentle otherwise go to cleaner or leather will get ruined!

Don't use alcohol, it will damage the bag. This lady is so so so wrong. This stuff will destroy the finish and leave the bag damaged.

luv2skrap The inside you can test a spot with alcohol. As long as you don't apply on the leather. I don't know if I would do the outside. Did it bleed through, the ink that is?

Mmm bad tutorial why not do it in a light color bag with the stains on it? This doesn’t work!
INK WILL NOT AT ALL COME OFF WITH ALCOHOL! IThe color will rub off the handbag and the ink will remain. Best to try a professional.

This video lacks visual instruction. It showed up when I searched how to remove lipstick from smooth leather. Yikes. Also, it would be helpful to use a light or medium colored bag so you could actually see the result as you are applying the "fixing " solution. I appreciate the attempt but the subject/summary is misleading.
i dumped an entire bottle of hair oil in my bag and baby powder/corn starch was my best friend!

Hahaha, what kind of logic was that? You used rubbing alcohol, stain and coloring were rubbed off. Then proceed saying it'll be restored by conditioner.
