Appreciate you drawing attention to this movement. I live in South Africa and my church appears to be affiliated with it. It has disturbed me for sometime because the teaching for the most part is sound and yet there is something (I sense) not right and the worship music choices at times, are very man centred. Basically they clean up society and take over the 7 mountains, then Jesus comes to reign over the earth. It called dominion theology. I am pentecostal, but I dont believe anything the NAR teaches.
Mary-Jane Chambers ; It is not exactly like that. The idea of NAR is that Jesus never comes back but that NAR becomes the official One World Religion under the authority of the anti-Christ.
The seven mountains are the seven hills that surrounds the city of Rome, where the City of Vatican is at. If they preach that they need to take over the 7 mountains, then what they are moving is for a one world religion, meaning that many but not all Evangelicals, Roman Catholics, Muslims, Many Jews but not all, Buddhists, Hindus, Confucians, and other religions will unite under the Papacy to embrace a new Catholicism to "make" the world better for God. This will then bring the Anti Christ come to earth. The Anti Christ will be Satan disguised as Jesus. Many will wonder after him and yell "Christ has come! Christ has come!" But Jesus said clearly to his disciples "Many will say, Look here is the Christ or there He is! Do not believe it, for false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform signs and miracles and deceive even the elect if that is possible" Matthew 24:23. This one world religion won't last long, because then the plagues will fall on the earth and punish and affect those who chose to follow the One World Religion beast system. The true believers already had fled the cities and are hiding in the mountains, where God's angels are protecting them and providing them with food and drink, while the wicked perish of hunger and thirst and suffer the plagues as well. Then when all world leaders put a death decree on the true Christians who refused to join the One World Church and all the wicked run out to seek and kill God's people, that's when Jesus will return to earth with his heavenly angels to save His people and resurrect all those who died in Christ. The wicked will see Him come back to earth and will wail and shout to the rocks "Fall on us hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne, and from the wrath of the lamb." Then the wicked will die at the glory of Jesus with His angels, but the righteous will be lifted up to be with the Lord and dwell in Heaven.
A kind neighbor invited me to his Assembly of God church. I went 4 weeks in a row, then I had to tell him it wasn't for me. They would randomly babble and it freaked me out. I said they don't even follow their own rules and doing what they did to a newcomer was strange. I'm just a Bible believer trying to understand the Word.
Lilly, if you want to understand anything about the Bible, do not go to a church. There is no Biblical truth in any church. Learning Biblical truth only comes from reading the Bible yourself. Stay as far away from the church as you can, they will only lead you astray.

Because they do not really hear from God maybe? They miss a lot more than that but COVID19 has been one of the more biggest things to happen in recent times and they all didn't "get a word" from the Lord regarding it. To the contrary, they got "words" of increase and blessing during 2020. Some predicted packed stadiums and outpouring and harvest.

For myself I'm retired so this has had little real effect on me. But a lot of my friends and family are really struggling. So much for increase on that one. Matthew 24 tells us you will see things like this take place but it don't tell you exactly what it is. If these people were truly hearing from God they would tell you heads up.
The apostles has roving ministries. They traveled Palestine and the Roman Empire establishing churches. The persons I know who claim to be apostles are stationed at one church. The overwhelming majority of them don't even do missions. But yet they are apostles, according to them.
The tactic that the devil uses is intrigue . If he can get curiosity flowing and keep feeding small tidbits of small supernatural activity and mimic biblical themes then he can gather a following . Not all Christians are wise and many are naive and have been taught by men . When people stop reading the bible they cease to develop the connection to the Holy Spirit and this can happen to a greater level when they are seeking signs. There is nothing wrong with the works of the Holy Spirit as this is the hand of God working you perform His will in the earth through His children . The works of the Holy Spirit don’t include writing books based on experiences and suggestions , it does not include grave sucking or trying to derive the annointing through “holy” laughter or jerking movements and acting drunk . Many cults mimic bible talk and bible words and in fact the Antichrist has this copyrighted such that he operates in every act that mimics the confusing and archaic experience theology . The communion of the Saints becomes a party of jerking signs and wonders as if that’s refreshing . What it really is is the operation of rabbit hole that keeps going down further and further ........ it’s Lucifer mimicking biblical themed talk but with the over exaggeration of a boastful proud fool . The sheer lack of biblical unity in their meetings and the sheer exaggeration of signs as if the keys to truth are hidden with chaos . Not being able to talk and rolling on the floor and preaching money blessings and please give to the seed planting machine is all a bunch of “hocus pocus try not to focus” theology . Satan has done this with the many cults that he runs and many churches themselves have also been given over to controlling spirits that deny Christ as His word declares . True biblical warfare against the devil has been forgotten by many churches and confronting the devil is considered scary . If anyone truly and honestly spent time reading the bible without commentary and without reading other books and simply asked God to guide them they would learn far more than most professors could explain . It’s the distasteful residue of nonsense Christianity that has driven many to seek truth and yet how can you seek that which you have not been taught of ? How can you seek God when you were lies to about who God was or what He does or how He operates . In the stillness of contentment with the God of the Holy Bible we find rest and that rest also encourages us with great strength to proclaim the truth and to seek the lost . When I was part of the NAR movement I had several ‘prophecies’ spoken over me. I was even ‘anointed’ by Bob Jones & was ordained as a minister. (As a female I know now that is not in God’s order) I was raised in it & from an early age there were many things that disturbed me. I was supposed to be preaching & teaching but inside of me there was a private war waging & it led to me having a falling away. I didn’t fall down twitching when prayed over; I could never pray in tongues but everyone else around me could. So many times they tried to teach me how & I saw the look of confusion & disappointment when it never happened. I believed that there was something wicked or wrong with me or that I had done something so vile that God wanted nothing to do with me. It was tormenting & I was scared to fall asleep & would end up weeping until I was exhausted & passing out. I was terrified I may die in my sleep & go to hell. I would fervently plead with God to help me. I didn’t understand why he was speaking so freely to everyone else but I never heard Him. I was molested as a child & I thought that had something to do with it. I felt impure, tainted, like I was evil & that’s why it happened. I felt it was my fault. I was to afraid to tell anyone my secrets & that I was this awful monster. I silently suffered & as a teen I fell away & made so many mistakes. I always believed in God but I just quit seeking Him. I may have given up but praise God, He didn’t. I had children & I wanted them to know & love God. I had to find out what was wrong with me first or else I’d be a hypocrite & leave them feeling as I had. While researching I stumbled on to the teachings of Chuck Missler, Justin Peters, & John MacArthur. It was seriously like the weight of the world had be lifted off of me. I felt something I never had before, a comfort, peace, love, relief, understanding, & a renewed zeal for the Word & love of Christ. My family are still in the sect/cult/NAR. I’ve tried to speak with them but they don’t want to hear it. They think I have militant, fringe views & it’s so sad. It’s hard to believe some times we are even reading the same Bible. I said all that to say this... this is an extremely dangerous movement. I’ve seen it push more people away from God than to Him. I have always loved God from the earliest age I can remember & this movement robbed me of that & very nearly destroyed me. It effected my sanity, physically my health suffered from the torment & stress, spiritually I was devastated. It frightens me to think how many people have been in my shoes & possibly turn away from God due to these false teachings, these preying not praying wolves. Haha. Yeah, I found that interesting, too. But Joseph being split into Ephraim and Manasseh is NOT the same as Judas being split into Matthias and Paul (!). I would rather stick with the fact that the Twelve were sent only to Israel while Paul was sent to the Gentiles (as well as Jews in the Diaspora). Galatians 2. Paul is the outlier because he was operating according to the mystery (Romans 16:25), while the Twelve were proclaiming only the fulfillment of OT prophecy.
@Mark OnTheBlueRidge Hi! Well, I've written a 250 page book explaining why Paul was, purposely, not of the Twelve and should not be considered the "rightful" twelfth apostle. There are several reasons why the choice of Matthias was legitimate and proper, and why Paul did not belong with the Eleven.
Fantastic! I find it interesting that it was Bill Bright (Campus Crusade) and Loren Cunningham (YWAM) who, back in the 1970s, said that they each independently had a "message" or "vision" from God about "seven spheres" or "mountains" that needed to be won for Christ before His return.

I’m new to your channel but I do love your direct approach when you are asked is there any new apostles I knew the answer how anyone could not know that Answer is unbelievable for nearly 2000 years there hasn’t been a new apostle and if anyone calls himself a Christian and claims to be an apostle he’s an abomination to God. Are there no more apostles? You say no, but that strongly depends on your understanding of the word apostle. You quoted 1 Corinthians 15:8, let me point you one verse earlier: After that, he was seen of James; then of all the *apostles.* Paul writes that after the twelve, then 500, then James and then all the apostles. Clearly there are more apostles than the twelve and Paul.

Does an evangelist have the same anointing as a pastor, no. Does a pastor have the same anointing as a prophet, no. Only Christ carried all 5 anointings. Each of these ministries is needed to equip the saints for their work of ministry. A pastor cannot equip with the same anointing, to train the local body as an evangelist can. Verse 13 tells us how long each of these ministries will be needed. Till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. The reason 1700 pastors quit the ministry each month is that they are trying to do the work of 5 different ministries and they are overwhelmed. As these ministries submit to one another understanding each other's giftings, the local body will be built up and edified to the glory of the One that said, I will build My church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it!

Early 2011, maybe 2011, when I was beginning to learn about Christian doctrine I came across a book on NAR about spiritual warfare. I made it through the first chapter and had such Holy Spirit conviction that I got rid of the book. I believe it was authored by Wagner but not sure honestly.
I agree with your views on the NAR, but not with your attacks on the King James bible as some kind of inferior translation. There is no translation more exacting than the KJV.
I have been researching NAR since the time of the Toronto 'blessing' and have looked in depth at origins. I am based in the UK. My origins line is Kenyon, Hagin, Lake, Copeland, Wimber, Howard-Browne, Arnott, Bickle, Alpha (Gumbel) and to the moderns such as Johnson and Hillsong.... Hi Allen! Hey, I know you’ve done a video on Hillsong church before (thank you for that) but it’s one of very few videos online where the church itself is evaluated- not exclusively it’s music. I have a friend who’s sister went to Hillsong college for two years and is now deep into the new age. My friend went to Hillsong college for a few months but ended up leaving due to homesickness but when I try to explain to her exactly what’s wrong with Hillsong, I have trouble. I know a few things Brian Houston has said and done (stance on homosexuality, his book “you need more money” and views on Islam) that are highly questionable but I was wondering if you would consider doing a more in-depth look at their specific teachings. The new age is a belief system heavily influenced by eastern thought, philosophy and practice. Some of its practices you might be familiar with are tarot cards, astrology, yoga, crystals, fortune telling, palm reading, meditation, speaking into existence, mantras, the law of attraction, etc. the list goes on and on. It’s a deceptive heresy that’s becoming more and more prevalent in our culture and is creeping its way into the church usually through the NAR movement and popular self-help theology (like Joel Osteen). I recently joined a new church in my area because my old church broke apart. I actually just went with my parents because I had no where else to go during the beginning of the pandemic. I started noticing unusual teachings and behaviors within the church. For one, they do have an apostle, he’s from Guatemala. They treat this man as if he was a celebrity or a god himself. He was the only word and final say. My pastor teaches well but I become very confused towards the end when he brings in the apostles teaching. I asked my friends at this new church a question about the apostle and it’s almost like they got offended and became defensive. They’ve told me that people call their apostle fake, that people talk smack about their apostle and post videos of him online trying to expose him and make him look bad. They were saying that they take what he says out of context. (I’ve done my research on this church and it’s completely demonic, I’m letting God lead me to a church this time) This new church i go to has a youth leader. He grew up in this church. They grew up thinking that if you go somewhere else, or someone is telling you to leave, you are being taken away from the devil and it’s the devil who is lying to you. If you leave their church, your soul is lost. You cannot hear any other pastor preach and you’re not allowed to search up for sermons online that isn’t of their apostle. If so, you’re defying God’s word and the apostle’s. They’re teaching the youth that the yolk the Bible talks about is a literal egg 🤦🏻♀️ They are teaching the children that Satan administers Christians in hell! he’s teaching them and tells them why they are in hell for. I was like, “wait is this man saying that Satan is the final judge?” They’re teaching the children that when they die, they go to a waiting room. They’re teaching them so many wrong teachings and people still applaud them. They call the people who help in the church “napkins” because they’re disposable. They don’t call them leaders because then arrogance gets to their head. But somehow only they’re allowed to have titles. I’ve also noticed that our pastor sits in a very different table with certain elders, it’s not too exclusive. It’s almost like a VIP table. No women are ever allowed to teach or do much besides watch the kids and serve in the kitchen or as ushers. They’ve also been teaching children that once you sell your soul to the devil, you can’t get it recovered AT ALL. They’ve told us a story that our apostle sees visions, revelations etc... and he said that the angels that took out Lot out of danger, appeared to him and two other people. Idk what this church is teaching but it’s not the God of the Bible that’s forsure!
I can't believe I actually read Branham not knowing how dangerous he was. I recall having sudden feelings of a very heavy and depressed atmosphere, and a strange impersonal presence lurking near while I read a book of his. when I sought advise about that, a brother whom I still respect had the bad idea of not telling me to stop immediately and I went on. Thanks to God I just didn't finish the book and by now I completely reject his theology
Thank you for showing the association between NAR and Vineyard. I was born in the 80s and partly raised in the Vineyard where we did church but I don’t recall ever hearing the gospel. There was a strong assertion of the importance of the personal experience/feelings.

NAR is something religious people made up to label people who have the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Jesus instituted the 5 fold ministry, this is biblical. Apostles, Prophets, Evangelist, Pastors, Teachers. So pastors are one fifth of the leadership of the church. No where does the Bible say there are no more Apostles. Also people today are personally visited buy Jesus and commissioned. Yes the 7 mountain mandates is a revelation from God to the church.
Hi Ryan. Thanks for your comment. You are mistaken though. NAR was specifically coined by Dr. Peter Wagner, not religious people who were trying to make up labels.
Polite Leader Mr Wagner who I am not familiar with may have coined that phrase, and yes there has been a recognition of Prophets and Apostles in recent decades but that is simply part of the 5 fold ministry leadership in the church. Not some “strange foreign doctrine” as you propose. John Paul Jackson is a good example of a modern prophets ministry for example. Jeremiah Johnson is another Prophet minister today. Michael Koulianos and Dr Randy Clark are Apostles id say.

One sphere not touched on was how this mushroomed in the 70s within the "Restoration" movement - in the US, this was seen with the 'Fort Lauderdale five' (Derek Prince, Bob Mumford, C J Mahoney, Judson Cornwall, Ern Baxter) and in the UK with the Bradford and Cobham groupings (Arthur Wallis, Bryn Jones, Terry Virgo, Gerald Coates, etc), which is examined in Andrew Walker's book, Restoring the Kingdom. I was on the peripheral of this for many years and saw the huge amount of damage it produced. A new rendition has begun to appear in the last few years ties to Holy Trinity Brompton and from there back to Toronto and New Wine (Bob Weiner) in America. This stuff is toxic poison, and needs to be entirely exposed as pseudo christian.
Was the Ft Lauderdale thing about Pastors having pretty much all authority over the church folks or something like that? And the word Lordship rings a bell surrounding this also. Or am I way off base? I admit I am too lazy to google it! But I do know like you said that it was a harmful thing and the guys at the helm later admitted as much (or at least one or two of them).

The sources for Restorationism are varied - Irvingism (The Apostolic church), Juan Carlos Ortiz's work, Disciple and the mosaic of Anabaptist and Pietist movements of prior centuries, as well as 'ministry' from Branham and A A Allen all feed in. What's important as in the current movement, is that they were devoted to the renewal of Apostolic ministry, which expressed itself in total submission to shepherding to local authority (Ronald Enroth's "Churches that Abuse" touches on the consequences of this). The thing which is so troubling is how this continues to re-appear and poisons the faith.

He is the Atoning Offering for mankind, for the remission of sin (1 John 2:1-2).

All we have is observations of the Apostles whom Jesus chose (and I'm glad Polite Leader realized that Apostles chose Mathias, but Jesus chose Paul). It only got embarrassing when he adds in there that they had to have written or oversaw scriptures. This is not dangerous teaching, just sloppy. But, it does exemplify a dangerous practice that Jesus condemned: making tradition authority. And it is ironic that a person who holds to church father's traditions is saying now singing "Sola Scriptura, Sola Scriptura!"
I'm researching the NAR right now as I'm looking at joining a church network that runs in these circles and it's new to me. I will say that the leader of the US branch told me point blank that they do not view the gift of the apostle to be on the same level as the 12 at all. So there's at least some diversity of opinion here. I also know that this network is governed by a board of elders not a single apostle. I'm at least concerned that your observations will lead to over-generalizations about what appears to be a diverse movement.
Your argument would be so much better if you stopped saying Paul said he was the "last" of the apostles. He said "least." The Greek word means smallest least in size, in amount: of management of affairs, in importance: what is the least moment, in authority: of commandments, in the estimation of men: of persons, in rank and excellence: of persons (Strongs G1646). It simply does not imply or mean "last." I don't disagree with your thesis, but just as the NAR people twist scripture to support their points, you are twisting scripture to deny their points. This is very poor exegesis.

I love how churches who claim "Sola Scriputura!" pull analogies out of the asses and claim them to be dogmas. Might as well believe in purgatory and the immaculate conception - at least there is historical and philosophical reasoning in these concepts. Here we have lots of "A looks like B" or "Scripture says C but it must mean D."

I feel that I need to say one thing. BE VERY VERY VERY VERY CAREFUL. Please read what I’m saying. Be careful of who you lump into your apostlolic reformation. I’m probably one who you would lump into the NAR. And I never heard of anyone you mentioned I don’t agree with anything you said that those people said. All I believe is that the word of God. Jesus clearly said, "My kingdom is not of this world." That statement is always true. Premillenial, Postmillenial, and NAR theology all try to make God's kingdom of this world. Jesus is coming back to get us, and take us away. He is not setting foot on this earth ever again. He is not coming back to set up shop of any kind. Does anyone know if there is a site we can go to that shows all the present day prophets and their prophesies? I've tried to look at a few NAR leader sites but no luck. I see the occasional UA-cam prophetic teaching - but I'm looking for a list. I'm sure someone must have thought to compile them, yes? There were more apostoles than just the thirteen, see romans 16:7 Greet Andronicus and Junia, my fellow Jews who have been in prison with me. They are outstanding among the apostles, and they were in Christ before I was. (NIV) We are all apostoles because we are all sent to evangelize the world, we are all prophets because it is one of the gift of the holy spirit (1 cor 15)

Appreciate you drawing attention to this movement. I live in South Africa and my church appears to be affiliated with it. It has disturbed me for sometime because the teaching for the most part is sound and yet there is something (I sense) not right and the worship music choices at times, are very man centred. The seven mountains are the seven hills that surrounds the city of Rome, where the City of Vatican is at. If they preach that they need to take over the 7 mountains, then what they are moving is for a one world religion, meaning that many but not all Evangelicals, Roman Catholics, Muslims, Many Jews but not all, Buddhists, Hindus, Confucians, and other religions will unite under the Papacy to embrace a new Catholicism to "make" the world better for God. This will then bring the Anti Christ come to earth. The Anti Christ will be Satan disguised as Jesus. Many will wonder after him and yell "Christ has come! Christ has come!" But Jesus said clearly to his disciples "Many will say, Look here is the Christ or there He is! This one world religion won't last long, because then the plagues will fall on the earth and punish and affect those who chose to follow the One World Religion beast system. The true believers already had fled the cities and are hiding in the mountains, where God's angels are protecting them and providing them with food and drink, while the wicked perish of hunger and thirst and suffer the plagues as well. A kind neighbor invited me to his Assembly of God church. I went 4 weeks in a row, then I had to tell him it wasn't for me. They would randomly babble and it freaked me out. I said they don't even follow their own rules and doing what they did to a newcomer was strange. I'm just a Bible believer trying to understand the Word.
Lilly, if you want to understand anything about the Bible, do not go to a church. There is no Biblical truth in any church. Learning Biblical truth only comes from reading the Bible yourself. Stay as far away from the church as you can, they will only lead you astray.

The seven mountains are the seven hills that surrounds the city of Rome, where the City of Vatican is at. If they preach that they need to take over the 7 mountains, then what they are moving is for a one world religion, meaning that many but not all Evangelicals, Roman Catholics, Muslims, Many Jews but not all, Buddhists, Hindus, Confucians, and other religions will unite under the Papacy to embrace a new Catholicism to "make" the world better for God. I heard a so called church leader once say she'd among other offices served in the apostle. I found that statement to be disturbing.
It did I almost went down some very dangerous paths I quit attending their services eventually.
When I was part of the NAR movement I had several ‘prophecies’ spoken over me. I was even ‘anointed’ by Bob Jones & was ordained as a minister. (As a female I know now that is not in God’s order) I was raised in it & from an early age there were many things that disturbed me. I was supposed to be preaching & teaching but inside of me there was a private war waging & it led to me having a falling away. I didn’t fall down twitching when prayed over; I could never pray in tongues but everyone else around me could. So many times they tried to teach me how & I saw the look of confusion & disappointment when it never happened. I believed that there was something wicked or wrong with me or that I had done something so vile that God wanted nothing to do with me. It was tormenting & I was scared to fall asleep & would end up weeping until I was exhausted & passing out. I was terrified I may die in my sleep & go to hell. I would fervently plead with God to help me. I didn’t understand why he was speaking so freely to everyone else but I never heard Him. I was molested as a child & I thought that had something to do with it. I felt impure, tainted, like I was evil & that’s why it happened. I felt it was my fault. I was to afraid to tell anyone my secrets & that I was this awful monster. I silently suffered & as a teen I fell away & made so many mistakes. I always believed in God but I just quit seeking Him. I may have given up but praise God, He didn’t. I had children & I wanted them to know & love God. I had to find out what was wrong with me first or else I’d be a hypocrite & leave them feeling as I had. While researching I stumbled on to the teachings of Chuck Missler, Justin Peters, & John MacArthur. It was seriously like the weight of the world had be lifted off of me. I felt something I never had before, a comfort, peace, love, relief, understanding, & a renewed zeal for the Word & love of Christ. My family are still in the sect/cult/NAR. I’ve tried to speak with them but they don’t want to hear it. They think I have militant, fringe views & it’s so sad. It’s hard to believe some times we are even reading the same Bible. I said all that to say this... this is an extremely dangerous movement. I’ve seen it push more people away from God than to Him. I have always loved God from the earliest age I can remember & this movement robbed me of that & very nearly destroyed me. It effected my sanity, physically my health suffered from the torment & stress, spiritually I was devastated. It frightens me to think how many people have been in my shoes & possibly turn away from God due to these false teachings, these preying not praying wolves. If you are I’m here for you & would love to pray with you & speak to you about coming out!

Haha. Yeah, I found that interesting, too. But Joseph being split into Ephraim and Manasseh is NOT the same as Judas being split into Matthias and Paul (!). I would rather stick with the fact that the Twelve were sent only to Israel while Paul was sent to the Gentiles (as well as Jews in the Diaspora). Galatians 2. Paul is the outlier because he was operating according to the mystery (Romans 16:25), while the Twelve were proclaiming only the fulfillment of OT prophecy.

Are there no more apostles? You say no, but that strongly depends on your understanding of the word apostle. You quoted 1 Corinthians 15:8, let me point you one verse earlier: After that, he was seen of James; then of all the *apostles.*
Paul writes that after the twelve, then 500, then James and then all the apostles. Clearly there are more apostles than the twelve and Paul.

Does an evangelist have the same anointing as a pastor, no. Does a pastor have the same anointing as a prophet, no. Only Christ carried all 5 anointings. Each of these ministries is needed to equip the saints for their work of ministry. A pastor cannot equip with the same anointing, to train the local body as an evangelist can. Verse 13 tells us how long each of these ministries will be needed. Till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ. The reason 1700 pastors quit the ministry each month is that they are trying to do the work of 5 different ministries and they are overwhelmed. As these ministries submit to one another understanding each other's giftings, the local body will be built up and edified to the glory of the One that said, I will build My church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it!

Early 2011, maybe 2011, when I was beginning to learn about Christian doctrine I came across a book on NAR about spiritual warfare. I made it through the first chapter and had such Holy Spirit conviction that I got rid of the book. I believe it was authored by Wagner but not sure honestly.

I have been researching NAR since the time of the Toronto 'blessing' and have looked in depth at origins. I am based in the UK. My origins line is Kenyon, Hagin, Lake, Copeland, Wimber, Howard-Browne, Arnott, Bickle, Alpha (Gumbel) and to the moderns such as Johnson and Hillsong.... Happy to share my thinking with anyone interested. I am a missionary with first hand experience of NAR in Africa and Asia as well as Europe. I concur it is false, not Christian, deadly dangerous

Where is James, the Lord’s brother? Paul references him in Gal. 1:19 as another apostle.
1 Cor 9:5 identifies "brothers of the Lord" as being apostles, so that would be James and at least one other of His brothers.

Hi Allen! Hey, I know you’ve done a video on Hillsong church before (thank you for that) but it’s one of very few videos online where the church itself is evaluated- not exclusively it’s music. I have a friend who’s sister went to Hillsong college for two years and is now deep into the new age. My friend went to Hillsong college for a few months but ended up leaving due to homesickness but when I try to explain to her exactly what’s wrong with Hillsong, I have trouble. I know a few things Brian Houston has said and done (stance on homosexuality, his book “you need more money” and views on Islam) that are highly questionable but I was wondering if you would consider doing a more in-depth look at their specific teachings. The new age is a belief system heavily influenced by eastern thought, philosophy and practice. Some of its practices you might be familiar with are tarot cards, astrology, yoga, crystals, fortune telling, palm reading, meditation, speaking into existence, mantras, the law of attraction, etc. the list goes on and on. It’s a deceptive heresy that’s becoming more and more prevalent in our culture and is creeping its way into the church usually through the NAR movement and popular self-help theology (like Joel Osteen). I recently joined a new church in my area because my old church broke apart. I actually just went with my parents because I had no where else to go during the beginning of the pandemic. I started noticing unusual teachings and behaviors within the church. For one, they do have an apostle, he’s from Guatemala. They treat this man as if he was a celebrity or a god himself. He was the only word and final say. My pastor teaches well but I become very confused towards the end when he brings in the apostles teaching. I asked my friends at this new church a question about the apostle and it’s almost like they got offended and became defensive. They’ve told me that people call their apostle fake, that people talk smack about their apostle and post videos of him online trying to expose him and make him look bad. They were saying that they take what he says out of context. (I’ve done my research on this church and it’s completely demonic, I’m letting God lead me to a church this time) This new church i go to has a youth leader. He grew up in this church. They grew up thinking that if you go somewhere else, or someone is telling you to leave, you are being taken away from the devil and it’s the devil who is lying to you. If you leave their church, your soul is lost. You cannot hear any other pastor preach and you’re not allowed to search up for sermons online that isn’t of their apostle. If so, you’re defying God’s word and the apostle’s. They’re teaching the youth that the yolk the Bible talks about is a literal egg 🤦🏻♀️
They are teaching the children that Satan administers Christians in hell! he’s teaching them and tells them why they are in hell for. I was like, “wait is this man saying that Satan is the final judge?”
They’re teaching the children that when they die, they go to a waiting room. They’re teaching them so many wrong teachings and people still applaud them. They call the people who help in the church “napkins” because they’re disposable. They don’t call them leaders because then arrogance gets to their head. But somehow only they’re allowed to have titles. I’ve also noticed that our pastor sits in a very different table with certain elders, it’s not too exclusive. It’s almost like a VIP table. No women are ever allowed to teach or do much besides watch the kids and serve in the kitchen or as ushers. They’ve also been teaching children that once you sell your soul to the devil, you can’t get it recovered AT ALL.
They’ve told us a story that our apostle sees visions, revelations etc... and he said that the angels that took out Lot out of danger, appeared to him and two other people. Idk what this church is teaching but it’s not the God of the Bible that’s forsure!

Thank you for showing the association between NAR and Vineyard. I was born in the 80s and partly raised in the Vineyard where we did church but I don’t recall ever hearing the gospel. There was a strong assertion of the importance of the personal experience/feelings.

NAR is something religious people made up to label people who have the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Jesus instituted the 5 fold ministry, this is biblical. Apostles, Prophets, Evangelist, Pastors, Teachers. So pastors are one fifth of the leadership of the church. No where does the Bible say there are no more Apostles. Also people today are personally visited buy Jesus and commissioned. Yes the 7 mountain mandates is a revelation from God to the church.
Hi Ryan. Thanks for your comment. You are mistaken though. NAR was specifically coined by Dr. Peter Wagner, not religious people who were trying to make up labels.
Polite Leader Mr Wagner who I am not familiar with may have coined that phrase, and yes there has been a recognition of Prophets and Apostles in recent decades but that is simply part of the 5 fold ministry leadership in the church. Not some “strange foreign doctrine” as you propose. John Paul Jackson is a good example of a modern prophets ministry for example. Jeremiah Johnson is another Prophet minister today. Michael Koulianos and Dr Randy Clark are Apostles id say.

One sphere not touched on was how this mushroomed in the 70s within the "Restoration" movement - in the US, this was seen with the 'Fort Lauderdale five' (Derek Prince, Bob Mumford, C J Mahoney, Judson Cornwall, Ern Baxter) and in the UK with the Bradford and Cobham groupings (Arthur Wallis, Bryn Jones, Terry Virgo, Gerald Coates, etc), which is examined in Andrew Walker's book, Restoring the Kingdom. I was on the peripheral of this for many years and saw the huge amount of damage it produced. A new rendition has begun to appear in the last few years ties to Holy Trinity Brompton and from there back to Toronto and New Wine (Bob Weiner) in America. This stuff is toxic poison, and needs to be entirely exposed as pseudo christian.
Was the Ft Lauderdale thing about Pastors having pretty much all authority over the church folks or something like that? And the word Lordship rings a bell surrounding this also. Or am I way off base? I admit I am too lazy to google it! But I do know like you said that it was a harmful thing and the guys at the helm later admitted as much (or at least one or two of them).

The sources for Restorationism are varied - Irvingism (The Apostolic church), Juan Carlos Ortiz's work, Disciple and the mosaic of Anabaptist and Pietist movements of prior centuries, as well as 'ministry' from Branham and A A Allen all feed in. What's important as in the current movement, is that they were devoted to the renewal of Apostolic ministry, which expressed itself in total submission to shepherding to local authority (Ronald Enroth's "Churches that Abuse" touches on the consequences of this). The thing which is so troubling is how this continues to re-appear and poisons the faith.

All followers of the Messiah are supposed to do the 7 appointed times (Leviticus 23), but no more animal sacrifices, following the Crucifixion of the Messiah. We are now of the order of MLK TSDQ, (King, Righteous), to Whom ABRaHM tithed. Ask the Messiah, if you have not already, to be your personal Savior. He is the Atoning Offering for mankind, for the remission of sin (1 John 2:1-2).

All we have is observations of the Apostles whom Jesus chose (and I'm glad Polite Leader realized that Apostles chose Mathias, but Jesus chose Paul). It only got embarrassing when he adds in there that they had to have written or oversaw scriptures. This is not dangerous teaching, just sloppy. But, it does exemplify a dangerous practice that Jesus condemned: making tradition authority. And it is ironic that a person who holds to church father's traditions is saying now singing "Sola Scriptura, Sola Scriptura!"

I'm researching the NAR right now as I'm looking at joining a church network that runs in these circles and it's new to me. I will say that the leader of the US branch told me point blank that they do not view the gift of the apostle to be on the same level as the 12 at all. So there's at least some diversity of opinion here. I also know that this network is governed by a board of elders not a single apostle. I'm at least concerned that your observations will lead to over-generalizations about what appears to be a diverse movement.
Your argument would be so much better if you stopped saying Paul said he was the "last" of the apostles. He said "least." The Greek word means smallest least
in size, in amount: of management of affairs, in importance: what is the least moment, in authority: of commandments, in the estimation of men: of persons, in rank and excellence: of persons (Strongs G1646). It simply does not imply or mean "last." I don't disagree with your thesis, but just as the NAR people twist scripture to support their points, you are twisting scripture to deny their points. This is very poor exegesis.

I love how churches who claim "Sola Scriputura!" pull analogies out of the asses and claim them to be dogmas. Might as well believe in purgatory and the immaculate conception - at least there is historical and philosophical reasoning in these concepts. Here we have lots of "A looks like B" or "Scripture says C but it must mean D."

I feel that I need to say one thing. BE VERY VERY VERY VERY CAREFUL. Please read what I’m saying. Be careful of who you lump into your apostlolic reformation. I’m probably one who you would lump into the NAR. And I never heard of anyone you mentioned I don’t agree with anything you said that those people said. All I believe is that the word of God. Jesus clearly said, "My kingdom is not of this world." That statement is always true. Premillenial, Postmillenial, and NAR theology all try to make God's kingdom of this world. There were more apostoles than just the thirteen, see romans 16:7 Greet Andronicus and Junia, my fellow Jews who have been in prison with me. They are outstanding among the apostles, and they were in Christ before I was. (NIV)
