Boom, little me got hoocked. also on that cassette were Bolt Thrower with Rememberence. this cassette literaly changed my life
SO happy to see a video about street punk! Can't wait to check out some of the non-US bands I haven't heard of and you included a lot of my underrated faves. I kind of think it's worth talking about how The Casualties are one of the biggest names in the genre and in punk as a whole despite their music being pretty heavy/not as "accessible" - they did Warped Tour, had a song in a Tony Hawk game, and it really paid off for them.
The casualties! Hell's yes! Back in the late 90s early 2000s my first punk rock band played a show with them at a tiny dive bar/hall in Grand Rapids, Mi lol. I had been wearing a Blatz beer t-shirt and one of the members came up and we chatted about the bands blatz and filth being cooler than the beer lmfao!! Anyways, he ended up buying the shirt from me for like $10-$15 bucks. 😊😆
I was privileged enough to see The Adicts and they were amazing! GBH and Caustic Christ, Cocksparrer, Rancid, so many amazing bands. I can't even begin to tell ya how much "No Security" by Chaos UK influenced me and lead me to the crust and anarcho-punk scenes. Game changer for real. Oxymoron too. As a kid from the hood it was amazing to finally see music that gave af, had ideas, critiqued the world, explained why our lives were the way they are, and were pissed off about it. Wasn't into the Virus/Cheap Sex, Krum Bum wave at all. There were some killer bands around that era like Career Soldiers, Monster Squad, etc, but something about those cats and The Casualties just seemed fake asl.
Hey, amigo! A friend sent this to me, as he saw a Born To Lose Easter egg. Me and some of those boys are working on a new project, but I enjoyed this video, I’ve come to dig the channel. Best. Today and every.

There are some amazing newish skinhead rock n roll bands out there, haymaker, lions law, booze and glory, the skinflicks.. too many to mention but these are my personal favourites especially haymaker, I like anything Tim steinfort puts his hands on, amazing!
Brah thanks. I've seen the list, and we literally said Discharge at the same time. That's a band I found by streaming and became a favorite years ago. You just put me up on The Varukers, and I must thank you for that. I love their sound and will delve deep into the discography.
I was at blitz last and true show with all band members and I can tell you, they were class and we all knew what punk was about that night. I’ll never forget how great we all felt and everyone was just raised from being poor young and angry. Nobody could give us a toss and we felt alive.
I'm not a punk, but a metalhead, female, going on 47. ABSOLUTELY LOVE D.R.I.'s Thrash Zone, I have a Greatest Hits album of The Ramones, one The Casualties album a two old Misfits albums and one Exploited album. Never been to a punk show yet, but hopefully one day when COVID is over. Acidez are cool too and Rancid. Peace! Wish they had punk emojis. 🤔😒🙄🤨😠👎🏻🥰🤗💖🇨🇦⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Heck, let's remember that metal as we know it is massively informed by punk. From NWOBHM to thrash to metalcore, the influence has come full circle so pivotally that it's hard to imagine where metal would be without it. I say we all owe a tip of that hat at bare minimum. 😎
I came up with the Lower Class Brats and Krum-Bums. I remember when we were all just playing for our girlfriends and the sound guy. Really good buddies of mine. Good to see them mentioned.
its great that someone outside the uk talked about this and didnt just instantly call it right wind and racist, im from the same place as the angelic upstartssi so its good to hear them mentioned plus i really enjoy this stuff.
As a 51 yr old dyed in the wool Street Punk/ Oi merchant, I'm quite surprised that I didn't hear the name Dead Kennedy's. They always fitted in nicely with Discharge, the Exploited, Broken Bones and ANWL when we were pissing our parents off in the '80's!
Thanks for the video! This style of Punk has been helping me a lot this Holiday season, and I learned about some awesome bands to check out. Happy holidays mate
Thank you so much! I grew up during the days of the Casualties, Unseen, Global Threat, etc and its great seeing them get the credit they deserve. Love your stuff. Keep it up!
Swingin' Utters "Streets of San Francisco" is an all time classic. Noi!se and Grade 2 are some of my current favs. The Oi/skinhead scenes are really producing some great bands world wide right now.
Don't forget the classic Brazen Heads EP "Here's to Swimmy with bull legged women" Also, most the bands listed in this video are just not good musicians. Like come on, we all listened to bad bands at some point, but this was a mega list of just bad bands that literally all sound the same. And I'm sorry, but Cock Sparrer just sounds like Pip farting into a snare drum.

The Germans Bands: "Pöbel und Gesocks" , "Berliner Weisse" , "Die Lokalmatadore" , "Martens Army" and the powerful "Die Kassierer" and in english language : Evil Conduct, Booze & Glory, Cock Sparrer, Discipline, Discharger, Haymaker, and a whole lot more Bands from Hardcore , Punk and Metal
Very fun channel! My favorite bands were Distillers, AFI, Tiger Army, Misfits (you see the trend) - very melodic with strong imagery. I like the rough and rowdy working class stuff too, but I liked the more fantasy-based, quasi-goth punk stuff too.
Swinging Utters definitely in my top 5 Punk bands of all time. Skate Punk is what I love to play & listen to since I was like 13. I truly believe that the album that changed everything is Bad Religion SUFFER! I do enjoy your videos & wish to learn more about older Punk Rock bands. Good job & keep it up, good stuff!
Ik really like these punk documentary chanals. Cool to see one about OI!. Most people shy away from the subject, yet this was a part of my youth and the punk scene. Mind you, I'm from 94 and grew up in a town without any scene at all. OI! Encaptures the feeling you live trough when you grow up in a shitty (ex)industrial town without any clubs. Street fights, beer and work. It's not the best excistance, but it is live and that's what makes it true and ring my heart. Dope for you to cover the subject!
Noting Skrewdriver isn't getting people into Skrewdriver. It's a necessary part of this story. It's like having a sushi buffet while ignoring food safety. Nowadays I think it's more important than it's been since Hitler died. This segment brings me back. I was going to shows in Atlanta from 98ish to 2014. It was dominated by streetpunk/oi! and I've probably seen Anti Heroes more than any other band. One of my favorites from that era was ironically (since I started with the subject) Adolf and the Piss Artists. Notable also were Time Bomb 77, The Despised, Man's Ruin, Terminus City, The Breakaways, and Bloody Sods. Ironically ska never took hold in Atlanta with as many skinheads as there were.
Atlanta in the late 90's and early 2000's was a treasure trove. All of the bands you named were awesome, and Zero Hour from Adolf and the Piss Artists is still one of my absolute favorite albums ever. Another one is still No Holds Barred, although I lost the CD of their split with Terminus City years ago and that still makes me sad. One of the best times I ever had in my life was heading down from Long Island to the Masquerade going to the Beer Olympics.
@@danielkrall6501 I was probably there. I went to most of them for 4 years. Promote Chaos was the most wild. I got assaulted in an Urban Riot pit. Since I looked like a crusty and was unaware they had a song called "burning squatters". Good times and now all that area is practically unrecognizable. At least we got to be there.
Ok so I think your really missing the origin of Oi! You've got the timeline backwards in a few areas. Skinheads came out of the Jamaican music and 100% started there in the scene. That scene didn't come from street punk and Oi. Quite the opposite. The reggae or SKA movements came first then Punk then Oi. the SHARPS didn't show up till much much later after the nazi movement came in and tried to steal the skinhead culture. In between there you had the Mods, suedeheads, etc. But Oi really came about from the Jamaican roots into the punk movement when the Jamaicans were basically forced out . Oi was less political (spare a few bands like combat 84) than punk for sure so you are right there but thats because of its roots. Its roots being really one of the first multi cultural movements. Many early skins were black. As far as Oi being left wing......that's the farthest thing from the truth. Nazi skins have more in common with the reds than any original skinhead movement. Commies and nazis are two sides of the same left wing coin. I have a hard time understanding how the same people that would lump Mao, Pol Pot, Stalin and MArks into the same left wing ideology could then turn around and throw hitler to the right. the guy was a national socialist and fascism is just socialism with private ownership. The creator of fascism (Gentile) wasn't right wing he was a leftist trying to solve the flaws in socialism. BTW most leftist socialist/communist nations are fiercely nationalist. So that's not the deciding factor is something is right wing. Time to set the record straight and get your terminology right. Nazi skins weren't the result of the Sharp movement the sharp movement was the result of bonheads stealing the culture. Oh and as for Skrewdriver. Their early stuff is that of legends. Every self respecting trad skin or punk had skrewdriver on LP early on before they went stupid.
Jamaica, Jamaica, Jamaica.....yes, tell us all about all the Jamaicans wearing Harrington, flight or Donkey jackets, Fred Perrys, Docs, Crombies, Ben Sherman and Lonsdale....that is British working class and mod gear. Yes...ska and reggae did its bits of course and a bit of the rudeboy fashion that the mods sort of had adapted but come on....skinhead in a British subculture. I myself love the Jamaican music, my house is full of Trojan, Pama, Coxsone, Island (etc labels) records and I myself have been a skinhead for 30 years but....skinhead is a British working class subculture at large. Jamaicans didnt invent it. And also, your timeline of things is so off. It clear that you know a bit about the whole skinhead cult and it's music but you have misunderstood quite a few things and as I said-your timeline is way off.

Bro- Klasse Kriminal, Acidez, Litmus Green, Negro Terror...love that you got some deep cuts in your videos. Mad props, keep it up!
the year was 1994, i was visiting a friend in the UK. i was 15. i bought a Terrorizer magazine which had a promo cassette in it. on it, Total Chaos with Pledge your defiance. Boom, little me got hoocked. also on that cassette were Bolt Thrower with Rememberence. this cassette literaly changed my life
I’m just going to say my favorite Street Punk band is Noi!se great lyrics and music imo
Totally! They we’re definitely my intro to harder Street Punk, Crust Punk, D Beat, Etc. Probably deserve a video of their own
@@thepunkhistorian6397 an interesting streetpunk band I found recently is the Whiskey Rebels. Definitely recommend checking them out
The casualties! 😊😆
I'm Italian and I'm really happy to see Klasse Kriminale mentioned in this video. I'm really proud of the Italian scene.
I'm glad you didn't leave out The Wretched Ones! -Dragon Rapid
This is a very good video. This guy really knows his stuff when it comes to punk. So listen up kid's , it's time for "Punk Rock101" . So don't be late to class! Oi! Thanks for the fun video. Cheers from Bridgetown Ca. SGV/ USA! 🍻🇺🇸
There are some amazing newish skinhead rock n roll bands out there, haymaker, lions law, booze and glory, the skinflicks.. too many to mention but these are my personal favourites especially haymaker, I like anything Tim steinfort puts his hands on, amazing!
Crown Court, Force Major, and Lions Law are my personal favorites of the newer bands right now.
Skinflicks aren't a new one though. They're just -finally- back in the game ;)
Evil Conduct is dope too
Booze and Glory? Skinhead rock n roll? They are as much a punk band today as Status Quo is one.
All these bands fucking suck donkey balls besides Skinflicks lol
Brah thanks. I've seen the list, and we literally said Discharge at the same time. That's a band I found by streaming and became a favorite years ago. You just put me up on The Varukers, and I must thank you for that. I love their sound and will delve deep into the discography.
False gestures for a devious public by the blood is a phenomenal album
Amen mate...
I was at blitz last and true show with all band members and I can tell you, they were class and we all knew what punk was about that night. I’ll never forget how great we all felt and everyone was just raised from being poor young and angry. Nobody could give us a toss and we felt alive.
I’ve always been a fan of this form of punk music, and was certainly happy to finally come across this very well done documentary. Way to go, bud. 👍
Oxblood, The Wolverines, Haymaker, Discharger, Narrow Views and Agnostic Front are some of my favorites.
I can't believe you have a clip of Mac going on stage with the Templars... That blew my mind.
Also great you're teaching people about Iron Cross.
i just found your channel and have already watched all your videos. really great stuff! cant wait for more mate :)
Thanks!!
This perfectly describes every weekend, every Wednesday and all summer of my life from 1994-2001.
@@sirfizz6518 I don't really care about much else. Not that I don't care. I just absolutely love music overall, primarily metal. 🤔🥰🤗💖🇨🇦😎🤘🏻🖤🎶
🤘🏻🧑🏻🎤
I came up with the Lower Class Brats and Krum-Bums. I remember when we were all just playing for our girlfriends and the sound guy. Really good buddies of mine. Good to see them mentioned.
its great that someone outside the uk talked about this and didnt just instantly call it right wind and racist, im from the same place as the angelic upstartssi so its good to hear them mentioned plus i really enjoy this stuff.
I'm shocked that this thing was produced and Uploaded and viewed without anybody ever mentioning the band Cobra from Japan
I'm so happy I found your channel
Phun phact...I grew up near The Exploited's guitarist, Big John Duncan. Lovely big fella.
Went on a binge of your vids im glad to see someone covering the scene
I really appreciate you making these videos.
".....the incredibly under qualified Punk Historian"; & "nerd out on some bands I f*cking love": 😹
I'm in; new subscriber!!
Loving your content, dude!
Massive love for an Aussie band shout out! 🇦🇺
They will get an entire video of their own
@@thepunkhistorian6397 good man!
I've seen DK's & broken bones at the Olympic autotorium in the 1983.
Thanks for the video! This style of Punk has been helping me a lot this Holiday season, and I learned about some awesome bands to check out. Happy holidays mate
The Devotchkas are another good all-female group to check out for anyone that’s interested. 😁
Just found this channel and love it. It’s like the punk rock mba but you actually know what your talking about
Takes me back to all the nights I spent at City Gardens watching whoever was there. Those early Bouncing Souls shows were awesome
Thank you so much! I grew up during the days of the Casualties, Unseen, Global Threat, etc and its great seeing them get the credit they deserve. Love your stuff. Keep it up!
And Bonecrusher, old Bone crusher with Raybo vox..
Damn, I’m finally watching these..
Nice work, Jack……….Zest rules…(the Seattle Zest!…haha)
Swingin' Utters "Streets of San Francisco" is an all time classic.
Noi!se and Grade 2 are some of my current favs.
The Oi/skinhead scenes are really producing some great bands world wide right now.
Don't forget the classic Brazen Heads EP
"Here's to Swimmy with bull legged women"
Also, most the bands listed in this video are just not good musicians. Like come on, we all listened to bad bands at some point, but this was a mega list of just bad bands that literally all sound the same.
And I'm sorry, but Cock Sparrer just sounds like Pip farting into a snare drum.
I see that Born to Lose album art near the beginning of the video. You've got good taste.
Bro, I love your stuff and am so glad you elaborated on differences between Oii and StreetPunk. You've definitely done your homework and am stoked to see content like yours available. BTW BRO----- NICE BATTLE VEST!!!! Regards and keep pumping out Punk content . Maybe something on OiCore or the Lookout Records era bands from Gilman Street/ East Bay.
Lookout records is a video idea I’ve had in my back pocket for a while now
Funny to see how Americans see UK punk so many things wrong in this video
The 90's street punk and oi scene on the East coast of the US was Glorious. The Bruisers, Dropkick Murphys, Ducky Boys, The Virus, Casualties, Unseen, Showcase Showdown, Pinkerton Thugs, and so many more.
Violent Society and The Boils from philly were great bands.
@@paddyoflaherty2519 hell yeah they were.
"Not Enjoyin it" is always in Rotation. I'm always sad I never got to experience the Philly Scene too much but the parts I did were pretty awesome
Lower class brats and krum bums
Wow great job that’s a lot of work! A few minutes into it I was wondering if you were going to mention the bruisers. And you did! I have two of their T-shirts!
Great work with this video 10/10. Greetings from sweden
I’m that dude wearing skrewdriver shirts lol 😂 stay away spooky spooky 👻
hey people who listen to bob marley dont seem to feel bad about it
Sad you missed Purgen from Russia. Amazing band!
Yo big ups for including those pub rock bands
This is great! I have been reliving my hardcore days the past 6months or so & have been looking for bands that I hadn't heard or discovered.
Omar was a great dude! It was a shock when he died. He was fun to talk to and could be so hilariously random. He even would do benefit concerts a lot for things like friends with cancer, etc.
When talking about German punk you can’t forget „Schleimkeim“ :D
„Pisse“ is also a great newer German punk band with a bit of an Post Punk influence
you can't show Kassierer to Americans dude. Too much bare skin. ;-)
Prost!
Oh wow, an actual Punk Rock MBA. Sorry the name got taken by a dude who doesn’t even listen to punk. Great channel dude. Love the content
Dude you have done an outstanding job with this. Fucking well done
I wish the now-defunct Orlando band, Suburban Lockdown, got more attention in their time. Phenomenal and raw street punk!
Happily subbed! Thanks for putting this out there! Please tell us more about The Casualties!
big shout out for dropping the best belfast punk band to grace the streets runnin riot! rip big Colin deserves an episode himself
Great band, Colin is much missed.
Good stuff man!! Big hey from an old punk in Chicago
Thank you for including the hudson falcons! Super under rated band
I don't care if it's Slayer, Motorhead or Bad Religion. Just like Lemmy said "it's all just rock n roll music"
you forgot screeeching weasel. "my right" still holds up to this day
I just found your channel. The Adicts mention alone earned the subscribe, looking forward to checking out your other stuff.
"Left leaning views of the preexisting Oi! scene?" Hahaha! SHARP was reactionary to ALREADY EXISTING boneheads...
I love your channel dude! I am definitely learning some stuff here!
Cheers 🤙🏻
I would recommend Showcase Showdown for you. They were apart of that late 90s Boston scene wth Dropkick, Ducky Boys and the Bruisers. Also Blanks 77!
I always thought a global threat until we die was a classic album. it's still amazing.
I still have my GBH shirt from Midnight Madness tour in 90-91.saw them at City Gardens in Trenton with Agnostic Front & D.R.I.
Oxymoron were fantastic live
My fav streetpunk band along with the Blitz.
@@mehmetozguraydin8987 same here. I was lucky to see them back in 2002 at the Showcase in Corona, CA
Great video! You could do a whole video on the Boston Oi scene itself.
