    DETAILS ON IRONCLAD ARE CORRECT FOR LIVE - After some reflection though, I think I'd still put them in A tier, just high A tier. Apologies that the alt history mod where Napoleon does not exist (correctly) changes the name of Napoleonic Warfare.
    Just to add to the "Early Mil Tech is Bad" analysis - there are a few contexts where you know you're going to get declared on where you can think about mil tech more (before deciding not to) and that's if you have railroaded ai aggression towards you (eg Austria, Mexico, Egypt). But, if you research mil tech and you don't have a substantiative war then your prioritization was wasted. If you research industrial tech, and then have a big war, at least you have more money w/ which to buy a bigger stick.

    One example where I have researched line infantry is in my Lanfang game. Due to low officer qualifications because of your Chinese primary culture in Borneo, manpower takes very long to regenerate and is also very limited in general. So in order to maximize expansion in the early game, I use Line infantry to subjugate my irregular neighbors.

      Honestly I just build cuirassiers and that is usually enought to conquer non-dutch borneo

    because of the criteria youre evaluating the tier lists, I think it wouldve been more valuable to have the tier lists grouped by tech era rather than tech tree.

    I usually use Mobile Artillery over Lancers for the Kill Rate, Im not sure if it actually helps, but it seems like it helps kill soldiers faster than they csn be trained and leads to enemy armies collapsing faster, paticularly in the early game where training can be a bottleneck

      I find battle occupation much more useful for most things than kill rate.

      Lancers are good for when you aren't fighting the battles, just rolling over empty fronts. Arty is the way to go to kill armies. Cav is great for token invading forces or a secondary flanking army to make use of broken frontlines.

    One of my favorite runs is playing as mahra and uniting Yemen but to do so i rush line infantry so i can unite the state as early as possible because the state is split between 5 nations. Typically 3 irregular is enought to beat two of them but the main issue is the qassimid state that start off with the majority of the pops in the state. And they usually of around 15k-20k army of irrigulars. Mahra cant field that many so i get to 5 line infantry and 5 cav and or artillary and im able to win that early enough before egypt goes to war with the ottomans and use that as a sping board to take the last piece of the state and unite yemen. This involves a little save scumming because i do reload to make sure i get the tech spread on mandatory reserves and line infantry to make sure this is done fast enough. Ive tried other ways but this is by far the most effective strat . So thats my long answer to the exception of line infantry lol

    Shrapnel arty is S+ in MP. Especially it has more attack than skirmish inf. And kill rate etc

      I think Shrapnel and Skirmish being S in multi is def the case, contingent on playgroup though.

      @@generalistgaming shrapnel arty is probably the most used tech in the game especially they added radio requirement to siege arty. Not only you have to go real deep into production tech to get radios, the fact that you will get rubber to produce that radio is uncertain in MP

      @@generalistgaming and shrapnel has more kill rate than siege arty. Helping it keeping it's relevance.

    i once won a war on the back of the Zeppelin JE Offense bonus so i cant imagine a regular tech upgrade doing much for me in such a badly planned war.

    Great analysis as always, quick question: is it worth it to go for line infantry first tech as a small country without iron/coal to get a province with those crucial early ressources ?

      I don't think so, no, since it will be a while for any country that doesn't start line inf until they get atmo engine, but they should go atmo engine first. The iron PM isn't stellar before then and just importing iron is fine.

    I've been trying Egypt Hegemony and you are fated to have a war declared by the Ottomans by 1840. So this is a very early war by a country definitely stronger than you, before you can really improve your economic loop. Is there some trick you would recommend? This is a very hard situation.

      Yeah, I mention these two in the pinned comment, and talked about it in other takes of the video. I don't have a specific strategy for either because I haven't practiced it, but I imagine the ai is pretty soft to repeated cav landings if you can swing it, combined w/ all defend armies and using the conscription edict.

      That quick? Well then, its time for the ole' scav to help. Understand we are doing this as a "mostly" temporary fix, but YOU don't have time for well thought out solutions.
      I want you to do 4 things:
      -Change Subsistence Farm PM's into "No Workshops" to mass produce raw material
      -Build 2 groceries, 1 basic furniture shop (No alcohol PM's for now you are Muslim remember?)
      -Change all military composition choices to DEF preferred and activate "Extra Supplies" in the morale tab
      -If at all possible: import weapons (temporarily), build barracks, tech to Earthworks, and pass the National Guard Law.
      This should prevent your economy from becoming quicksand despite the inevitable monetary debt you will incur during or right before the war.
      While neither I or the ancient stone sentinels will be able to defend you at least you will make a solid wall to bleed the Turks and maybe counter attack to gain some land.

    Steam trawlers on fish/whales is unlocked by gantry cranes as far as I remember.
    Also with military and civilian shipyards now being decoupled, gantry cranes and ironclads now shoukd be independent techs instead or highly codependant as before 1.5

    To be fair, its not that hard to offensively defend. You declare, make a push into their territory and order all generals to hold the line there.
    The AI absolutely hates you for occupation so it will throw bodies at you like crazy.
    Another example is Japan, where by having higher mil tech you can defend your homeland against any nav invasion.
    Which os actually preferable since it will shave off a good chunk of enemy forces which would otherwise bog down your offensive battalion pillaging Colorado.
