True but there *does* come a point where everyone starts to wonder if it's in character or just the inevitable result of trying to herd this bunch of dorks into something resembling a narrative for the last six years or so....
You know, I think the thing that makes this particular laugh so chilling is its sincerity. Some villainous laughs you definitely get the impression that they're laughing for the sake of bombastic effect. Matt's laugh here is chillingly sincere - it gives the impression that Lucien really does find the prospect of murdering his opponents here genuinely funny.
Especially when he was so cordial and respectful beforehand. The plot twist of his plan combined with the reveal of his unchained (heh) opportunistic, cold blooded and murderous self is downright perfect.
This is the kind of evil laugh that means business. He finds joy in the madness, relishes in the feeling of blood between his teeth. I didn’t reach this part of the story yet but that what it sound like. And I LOVE it.

Sometimes I watch these clips and wonder what a person who has never watched a dnd stream/video series, or knows critical role or has absolutely no clue what's going on, would think it's going on.
I know of critical role I just never watched. Im a visual person so the constant talking makes pulls me out if I'm not reading along or I don't understand the context. That being said... by the type of laughter, the party are about to get their cheeks CLAPPED

I have an issue w auditory processing and the captions are super helpful. they dont catch every little thing people say in the background but they get everything from the main conversations. i also recommend watching one of the many highlight channels out there for episodes you either dont have time to watch or missed. they also put out amazing recaps on their website i think within a few days of the stream! c3 is coming up very soon, so its a good place to start without worrying about missing context!

I once ended up laughing like this but managed to mute my mic the reason wasn't they'll die or i had gone mad..or well i suppose i had gone a bit mad but still not nutso enough to TPK or anything but basically i had been building up an NPC to be the plot twist runaway illusionist of the story(basically story is a small collection of villages are experiencing attacks on random civilians and the ones behind it are a cult of illusionists who are after a runaway illusionist from their group) he was always sort of..eager to join the party as he was "local enough" and had a "stubborn old coot" for an uncle the uncle was originally the one introduced to the party as the partys bard noticed he had hid himself nearly impecably during a fight inside a tavern he was a tetired spy so had high stealth...the other NPC who in reality was not the old mans nephew but instead the old man took him in later came in and kinda stuck around with the party he had gained the trust of the captain of the guard too so he ended up on the inside of alot of investigations including what lead me to my short term madness basically they went to a church to commune with a god who was persumably the one the cult worshipped who through no uncertain terms said he has no love for the cult..no care either and then gave them answers to what they were trying to find aka the cult as he found them bothersome on his name and wanted them gone and he told them(through some clever questions from the party tbh) an answer which led them to a short list of people they had met who could be the illusionist they could get info from(some were threathening violence explaining whats to come)..two of the 7 on the list were with them..they got immediatelly suspicious of the other one who is infact also not who he claims he is but in another way and tested him right then and there but bc his disguise was not disguise self he wasn't discovered...but the party then left..the illusionist followed trying not to draw attention..i then explicitly told them he left their company on their way to question the others on the list..and only after all the others were ruled out did they realize the NPC was with them and heard their whole darn plan including the threaths(which considering his character has been a rather fearfull man bc last time he played hero he nearly killed someone but then whimped out and ended up wanted dead by a whole cult would make sense he's try to avoid being the target of) and they realized it and were freaking out and i was just laughing because A i had to figure out a way to make it make sense they could find him and B the fact they had him with them so many times and only the bard player really remembered them and the bard was the only one away that session another fun fact his name he used in this identity was Anathren aka my pun hint to the word Another and a even more subtle hint to Annatar Saurons deceptive form which i thought would be an eyecatching name in my campain where so far the most exiting name was Salxious a tiefling
@@feral_orc yeah he voiced Majima in the English dub for Yakuza like a dragon. Only the original ps2 Yakuza and like a dragon had dubs and Majima was voiced by mark hamill in Yakuza 1. But yeah admittedly I play with the Japanese voices too.
