- AMAZING FAMILY OF 18 •❥ Feeling excited, the first time I noticed these ducklings cuddled together in the grass... I thought maybe there were 8 or 9 fluffy, beautiful ducklings. When they all popped up to the count of (16) I was amazed... I'd never seen so many in one clutch. They quickly trusted me, therefore becoming part of my treasured extended feathered family. Every afternoon, I would find them huddled together under the trees, waiting for their daily delivery of wild bird mix, that I was thrilled to deliver. It was truly heartening to see them all survive, and fly around our lakes as one. Eventually, the whistler ducks leave, before returning about six months later. They have all just returned to our local lakes... I wonder if my precious 'family of 18' are amongst them? ♥
GRASS WHISTLING DUCK •❥ The plumed whistling duck also called the grass whistling duck, with it's loud sibilant whistle... is one of two whistling or tree ducks found in Australia. During the day the plumed Whistling-Duck congregates in large numbers with other waterfowl, on the margins of lagoons, swamps and mangrove creeks, for preening and sleeping. At night they fly out, often quite long distances, to feed on grasslands.

Hi Bella,..what an awesome family,..i have never seen such a big family of waterbirds and i live very close to river and lake,..well captured and you must have being over the moon to have them trust you,..delighted to see you were feeding them as well,..i would say many of them have returned to your area this year and you will probably see them close to where you fed them as they will remember it as a safe location,..with food provided,..well done Bella,..best wishes,..Philip.
That's exactly what happened Phillip... about two months ago these 18 ducks returned to the bridge (in last frame)... of course I was thrilled when they came running to see me... nature is amazing! I've lived on these lakes for years... surrounded by 78 (last count) species of birds, however never seen such a large clutch. It was a wonderful experience to watch them grow into healthy adults.

Hi Bella, The appearance of child ducks chasing the mother duck innocently is really adorable. If, if, a duck has emotional expression, I would like to shoot in closeup a child ducks. Probably, there will be the emotion expression of the number of a child ducks, there. In the case of cats etc., there are emotional expression of an individual of each. That was last season, almost a year ago. Just today, I was driving around the lakes on my golf buggy (in the rain) and there, waiting in the same location as the bridge in the last frame of my video... was a group of 18 whistler ducks. As soon as they saw me... they came running towards the buggy. (When they were growing up, I would feed them everyday) Today, they knew it was me! I was so excited, I'm absolutely sure it was this special family. I couldn't believe it... such a thrill! The joys of nature! Thanks again Mikey... have a lovely day!🌻ﾒ

Lovely video! I once filmed a Greylag Goose with 23 goslings, but this is the largest duck family I have ever seen.

Great thrill for me to follow their progress daily. They all survived, which was wonderful! That's interesting to know they are only in zoos in Europe, as we have many in the wild here. *_The range is eastern, northern and central Australia from the Kimberley across the Top End and Cape York, down to southern Queensland and northern New South Wales on the east coast, although may reach northwestern Victoria inland, in the vicinity of the Murray River. It is also found in New Guinea. The preferred habitat is tall grassland and savanna, often near bodies of water._*
