That is very important if you have a network port or cable outside of your walls...
Yeah, that's a good point! Although, by the time someone wants to get at my network so bad they are willing to tear off (won't come off easily) the outside unit, they must really want something. Still, separate untagged VLAN mode or port security can certainly increase that!
VTO3211D-P1 Works well with this tutorial. Home Assistant also detects the RFID cards that are presented. I had issue to update the SIP parameters and I finally succeed by changing them one by one, pressing save and get reboot each time. The error was related to the password that contained ***** char (WTF). Thumb up
And I also just addedd the video stream to my HA installation using a specific Onvif user (not admin) with this URL : rtsp://monitor:XXXXXXX@DAHUA_VTO_IP:554/cam/realmonitor?channel=1&subtype=0&unicast=true&proto=Onvif If you want to capture people that are sneaking around your door when you are away you can use the excellent plugin Frigate and a Google Coral accelerator.
Thanks so much - Have my VTO2111D-P-S2 in front of me. Fully integrated with Blue Iris and HA / Node Red. HA Rings my Rf433 door bell chimes, notifies my phone & ipad with a snapshot and changes my google hub used as home office desktop CCTV monitor to door bell stream. (as well as ringing phone). All with just a simple 12V feed using existing door bell bell wire. Final installation on the front door this weekend.....
It's awesome right? So much better then the commercial cloud stuff they try to act like is the only thing out there, but can't do any or at least not well of what you described! Thnx for the comment, loved reading it! :D
As always, you've inspired me. Since I have no desire to run CAT cable to my doorbell I'm going go try the Duhau DHI-DB11. It's 16VAC, rings the doorbell and similar specs.
Excellent video on setting up Dahua doorbell kit. Thanks for the hard work and showing us prospective buyers of this system what it can do and what it takes to setup. I'm definitely looking forward to the relay set up and that new more-compact doorbell unit Dahua sent to you.
I bought it and so far it's not installed but I'm toying with it and loving it. Question: How do you change the ringtone or upload new ones? In the App can it be made so that the Doorbell camera loads right away when you open the App? Currently I have to add it to the Door section everytime Final question, I have a motorised gate that can be triggered (open/close) by pressing on a push button. Is there any such possibility to wire in the VTO or VTH so that it closes a circuit momentarily
Hi, first of all great tutorial! I also would really appreciate a video (or just some info) explaining the Home Assistant & ESPHome integration/setup, please! Alvast bedankt 👍
Thanks for this video. Was sorely needed because can barely read the dinky fine print instructions that came with it :) Bought the KPT01 kit (1 VTO/1VTH) and an additional VTH (might even add a 3rd later on). I can make calls between all 3, video, 2 way audio. However, when I use the "monitor" on both of the VTH's, I get a "network abnormal, monitor failure!" error. I'm somewhat at a loss. About to jump into the smartphone notification in your video. Great stuff! Soon to interface with my Home Assistant!
I have purchased and have a question regarding the VTO intercom I would like to fit a maglock to outside gate (which is not issue) I can use monitor to open gate But the only way to open gate is using phone if I am on outside of gate, this is major issue because say my phone battery dies or I forget to take mobile out I am looking for a solution to add a keypad or fingerprint reader is their a 3rd party solution to add to your system, otherwise what is the point of fitting a lock that i cannot get back in unless I have a phone
Great video. I bought the unit from your link to replace my TMEZON. I have been searching but can not find a tutorial on how to set up my electronic door strike?
Just got mine last week, ordered just after you dropped this video (total of about 7 weeks ish order to delivery...not bad, but not great) Now running through thsi trying to get it running! Lets see how this goes!! Thanks for the awesome recommendation on this BTW! been looking for something of this caliber for a WHILE....cant wait to see it for myself in just a little bit!
I've received the smaller unit last week. It has rock solid construction. Mine will be installed outside on a fence post to control a side gate. Interface looks the same as the larger unit.
Damn, this is a really nice doorbell! :D This will be officially my next video doorbell after my Ring (first gen) is broken. The only problem will be getting an ethernet cable next to my front door 😅. I'm really looking up for the Home Assistant integration ;) Nice video!
Ok so i got inspired by your other video regarding on how you finally found something dorbell-wise that actually functions (i'm thinking integrating it in home assistant, being able to hopefully make both my phone and wifes phone ring bot h at the same time when someone rigns the bell either via SIP or app, still be be decided) so i grabbed a VTO2101E-P-S1 that i intend to play with this weekend, we'll see how that goes :) Regarding the chime thingy, that's one small part that still bothers be a bit, see, i hate being dependant of that home assistant is up/works in order for me to hear if someone is at, not that i've ever had a problem with HA but you never know. Anyway, i see that this model ( VTO2101E-P-S1 ) has some sort of serial bits on it, perhaps that could be used somehow to send a signal or something to a chime or by other means make sure that even if software (HA) misbehaves the doorbell still triggers a chime ? Would be cool if you could look into that!
@Intermit.Tech great video. Very helpful!! For the onvif password on the VTO, was there a default as the admin password I set up works everything else but onvif
Great video - thanks! I've had mine running on Blue Iris for about six months now - but just now decided to try out the gDMSS Plus app. Followed all the steps, but for the life of me I cannot get the notification on the app to work. Nothing happens at all when I push the doorbell button.
How's the physical security? I have a Ring video doorbell and it's secured with a screw with a "special" head so you can't remove it with a typical PZ2 or PH2 screwdriver. This is to protect against damages, theft and burglars (who will also damage/steal the doorbell) as well. Ring had the issue of storing WiFi creds in plain-text, so theft of the device would lead to compromise of WiFi creds as well. Also, as other's have pointed out: Make sure this network cable cannot reach anything on the internal network.
It can record clips when the button is pushed but no advanced Ai detection or something like that. I do also record the stream with my NVR so can always look back a few days if needed.
Great video as always Quindor. Looking forward to the next video about the smaller black one. When can we expect that? Just sold my Doorbird D101S, so we are without a doorbell atm as im on the fence and so curious about the video quality on the Dahua! Thanks again
I know that is possible to use this without the dahua screen using only the app. But what do you thing about this approcach? I already has an Android tablet at my door, do you think is it possible to use this tablet as my 2 way communication?
Hey man, I'm planning to use a tablet as a secondary monitor for the VTO. Is it possible to get the video to pop up without clicking on the notification?
Thank you for such a quick reply. Also have you thought about once the button is pushed it shows up automatically on your smart tv's throughout your house either as Picture in picture or as a full screen?
Yes, not sure what it does, but if you leave it alone (like the manual states) you can change everything else. Only when you use your own SIP server should you change it I think.
Great video!! One thing I didn't get, the chime is connected to the esp board and will be activated via wifi? (the actual doorbell is not connected directly with the chime wires?) I'm asking because the current doorbell I have, Ring, is connected/powered by two wires (which I assume coming from the transformer and connected to the chime as well), and getting an ethernet cable all the way there would be a hard task.. :/ So I was thinking to just mount it on the other side of the doorway which I can definitely arrange the ethernet cable, and to control the chime / send the signal via wifi when the button is pressed.. assuming my first question was correct.
Yes, both are basically connected to Home Assistant in whatever way and once you have that, you can make it all work. So the chime over WiFi or some Zigbee version or anything like that can work fine, as long as Home Assistant can use it.
Thank you for this super nice video! It definitely conviced me to buy one VTO2202F-P. Have you ever tried to use the pins: ALARM_NO and ALARM_COM ? I supposed they become a 0 ohm circuit once VTO button is pressed but i'm not able to configure them. In the webserver i'm not finding any configuration for ALARM..Thanks in advance for your help !
Having some issues....Hope you can help... I have this same VTO and the same VTH... First off, I changed the IP's to my subnet. I can access the VTO from web, but not the VTH. I got the Config tool, except the new version V5, and it found the VTO on its own, but not the VTH.Also they are only visible in the Modify IP screen. I had to add the VTH with IP info myself. I was not sure of the port so I left blank for now. So... I can see the video on my VTH, but the VTO cannot call, and I also cannot call from VTH to VTO. I was also wondering, do I need to setup SIP(I am unfamiliar with SIP). For now I am not interested in mobile access. In the VTO webpage, there is Household VTO No. Management which I have no idea to setup. But its been hours, and I have tried a number of things, NO LUCK!! Any help would be great. So the config tool cannot see the VTH for me to upgrade firmware, and I cannot access its web browser page(err_connection_refused). Very frustrating.
With the screen are you able to bring up a web browser with something like the Home Assistant Lovelace interface (preferably when it's idle)? or can it be flashed with Android as it would be a good POE interface to go on the wall if everything can be done in one place.
It might be nice to have wireless as an option, but as far as I know, this is the only video doorbell I've seen that has ethernet - which should be a required feature for all stationary devices! Garage door openers - wireless only Video doorbells - wireless only Lawn sprinkler controllers - wireless only So many wireless devices that are permanently mounted! Ick!!! It's hard enough getting 6 phones, 3 laptops, & 4 tablets to connect simultaneously - especially since the neighbors all have their wireless noise nearby. I also hate the security gap of wireless, and I try to avoid it whenever possible.
@@gmscott9319 not only because 'stationary', but also because, at least in my case, the doorbell would be installed in a total wifi blank spot, because of the layout of my typical dutch "rijtheshuis" (house in a row block) and where my APs are located
Hi, can the monitors be used for other applications or apps added like a regular android tablet? Outside of just showing the video outdoors, what other features or solutions does it allow?
No they don't natively, but an NVR could partly do that for you. It's not all fancy AI cloud based stuff though, so if you'd really be looking for that, this isn't it. :) And the nails, yeah, especially one is a bit out of control ;)
Wouldn't be possible to use a VPN inside the house to connect to the Doorbell directly without using their Cloud? I imagine that some RTSP software is available on Google Store for that :) That would remove the use of their cloud possibly :) Also, regarding the "Room settings", that would be the function to use for their Outside doorbell with multiple "buttons", to be able to configure an external outside for two different houses/apartments, because you basically assign a specific "button" to a room and the doorbell will ring only in that room if that specific button is pressed. Very interesting :) Thanks for this video! :)
Yup, that's one of the ways I'm going to look into. Block all internet access but add it using a local IP and use something like Wireguard to have a split-VPN on your phone so it could still send push messages, but no clue if that works yet or not. :) On the other stuff, yup, you can build a whole system with it, including multiple buttons (different model outdoor unit), etc.!
@@IntermitTech Maybe you can ask them to send you one with 2 buttons so that you can show your viewers how that works :P For the VPN bit, I think it might be only related to find a Doorbell software that uses RTSP or maybe HA for the push notification and a simple RTSP Software for the Audio/Video part. Of course the VPN traffic should be routed for the Doorbell port if you do a different Subnet for your VPN Clients :)
Hello people, we ordered and received the unit through a seller on A.E. We ordered a set for on-wall mount. Unfortunatly in the box there was only the unit, but no bracket for either on- of in-wall mount. The space in foam in the box implies the piece is missing. Or is there actually a third option with only the unit and no mounting brackets? in that case we ordered the wrong item. We will also contact the seller. Ps: great video. It convinced us to get this unit. We consider making a mount from Belgian Bluestone and might not need the bracket at all.. Frank
Hi Frank, awesome you liked the videos about the unit, more coming up! But yes, just the doorbell unit alone doesn't come with either the in-wall or on-wall enclosure, you need to pick one of those and then buy those separately, I hoped I explained that well enough in the video! But nothing lost, just contact the seller like you said, he should sort it all out. :)
@@IntermitTech Thanks so much for the explenation. Hence the 'low' price ;-) We have ordered the only one item indeed... Can blame the wife since she actually ordered it ;-) Your videos are both informative and entertaining. We are in the proces of automating our newly being build house (very south of Netherlands) and allthough I am relative technical skilled the whole thing covers a lot of specific areas. From networking to security etc.... Therefor videos like yours are very valuable.. Thanks again!
Very nice video! Im about to order one my self now, and with your help it will be easy to install. One question; could you explain the house doorbell connection a bit furter?
@@IntermitTech please release it soon or at least post your mqtt code for the buttonpress please -- i just got it installed in my shop and would love to have my ha setup with a simple sound :-)
@@itiot_dk I know it's taking a while, sorry for that. Once you have the add-on added, I have this in my configuration.yaml: binary_sensor: - platform: mqtt name: Doorbell Button State state_topic: "DahuaVTO/BackKeyLight/Event" value_template: "{{ value_json.Data.State }}" payload_on: "1" payload_off: "0" And then I have an automation linked to that. But the video is coming, hopefully somewhere next week, trying for that. :)
Great video tutorial. Thank you. I bought the kit and have installed a micro SD 32GB in VTO. I did not find how to use this micro SD for continuous recording or at less for short videos when it rings or there is movement. Is this possible at all using this micro sd as I don't have an NVR.
I wouldn't think so, SDcards aren't used for writing the amount that comes from writing continously. I do believe it can capture footage on events such as the doorbell being pressed.
@@IntermitTech I'm wondering if one could put config information (new password, IP address info, etc.) onto the SD so you don't have to kluge around with a 192.168.1.x network for setup...
@@IntermitTech hello, i have same probleme i install sd card 64gb into my vto and i don't know how i recording automatly when one person push the button in vto
Wondering if the Dahua APP is still working for you, it seems dahua moved from the iDMSS Plus to the DMSS, but the doorbell doesn't call the app anymore.
I've been using DMSS all this time and it's still working great for me. Talk to people at the door while home or away without a problem. Sometimes when you are remote you might need to connect twice, but that's it. Push messages come through fine for me.
@@IntermitTech Thank you Quin for the reply, i manage to make it work. Not sure why, but if i add the VTO manually with IP/User/PW, all worked fine except the push notifications on the phone, but once i did with the QR code, and registered the SN, it seem to work, again not sure why. Thanks again for taking the time and replying me, if you hadn't i would have though it was broken.
I'm just about to order this kit, but I have one question you might know the answer to. My existing (faulty) door phone has a momentary-action pair of relay contacts that I connect to the wires for my standard doorbell. When a caller presses the button, the relay closes for about a second and opens again, which gives the "ding-dong" on the old doorbell. Does the Dahua have the same feature? Looking at the manual, it mentions a number of different contacts but doesnt really explain what they do. Thanks!
Thank you for sharing! I don't understand if I can record the VTO images with a Dahua NVR like mine (NVR4116HS-4KS2) for 24 hours a day. Is it possible?
Nice explenation! Are you not affraid that Dahua may have a backdoor in the software somehow? They make great stuff what I really would like to use, but since they use closed software, I cannot be sure that my data is going to China... can I?
Well, they are a very public company and out out security updates regularly, but be sure, we'll no. But if you buy a US product, you are almost guaranteed it can be tapped by them, so I'm not sure which is better really.
Do you think this will work for ever? maybe they decide to update the firmware to disallow the "feature" just asking... im srsly considering to get me one. PS. pls pls pls, does the box come with the unit or do yuo have to order it separatly?
We're using the official API to talk to it, I don't see any reason of them taking that away, it's not some "hacky" thing, it's an official feature of the device. In a kit the box comes with it, otherwise you need it separately.
Yes it is, it supports local (not sure what that does) and ONVIF which I've tested with some of my Dahua cams, but I'll try a 3rd party camera too. H264 only though, that is certain.
@@IntermitTech I wonder whether the Dahua VTH5341G-W Android 10-inch digital indoor monitor would allow you to view the cameras and access Home Assistant. (www.aliexpress.com/item/4000829760361.html?spm=2114.12010612.8148356.1.34827dffDO1JKV)
Hello, I've bought the same doorbell. Now the app seems to be dmss. Everything is fine except that the person in front of the doorbell cannot ear me. Any clue?
Hmmm... Since it can use sip (by default as server, but maybe also as cluent, e.g. as sip extension in asterix or a fritzbox?), would it also be possible to have it dial a dect phone's internal number and even communicate with audio? I like a 'smart' doorbell and video is great and stuff, but I have one important use case: Working from my home office on the attic floor of our house, I need quick and reliable audio contact with the person at the door, especially the parcel delivery couriers who ring and are gone before the 20 seconds I need for running down 2 stairs gave elapsed . Basically, if a unit would exist with just DECT, a pushbutton and it would then ring on DECT phones, that would be awesome. But if the SIP functionality of this unit is compatible with telephony, that might do, too. Maybe I could register my Sienens N300ip SIP DECT station as a client on the outdoor unit's sip server?
The SIP functionality should be able to do it, but I haven't played with it in that regard yet. But why not just mount a screen in the attic or use the app? Especially on WiFi it's lightning quick, we're talking 1 to 2 seconds for video + audio. 4G it's like 3 to 4. For this exact reason I have a screen in my offices!
@@IntermitTech the screen would definitely be an option, too. But on the other hand, it still 'feels' like overkill to have such a big screen only for communicating with the door. Unless it also has some potential to add content (maybe even home automation integration). Response times on smartphone also look good! My only concern is reliability... If it also will work spot on, even if the phone has een inactive for hours, etc. In any case, thanks for the quick response! :)
@@EymertVersteegt I can only tell you the app has worked flawlessly for me the month I've used it now. The app does give you instructions how to disable certain power management features because of the phone prevents it from waking up, well yeah, no solution can fix that. :) The screens are quite limited, only for the doorbell or watching another camera.
@@IntermitTech Good to see the app really has been well-engineered and provides all help possible to circumvent power management features. In any case, enough options to integrate it. Now only to decide if I will go for this big outdoor unit, or one of the 2 smaller ones you linked. The VTO2111D-P-S2 looks most appealing, if it really provides same quality and features as the bigger sibling (and direct PoE UTP attachment, so no doorbird-like clutters )
You didn't really go into this - but according the the quick-start guide, you've got to set up a computer on a 192.168.1.x network in order to access the device (which has a default IP address of 192.168.1.110) so you can change it's IP address. Is that really the case? If, so, what a PITA.
Dahua with Alexa Show (UK!) Dahua Doorbell with Amazon Alexa connection- I know this topic (access via internet) is controversial, but I am aiming to display the Dahua doorbell on my Alexa Show via the Dahua skill. There are some youtube videos on how to do this and it seems that the US has a dedicated Alexa skill. But this seems to be missing in the UK Skill store. Has anyone tried to to connect their Dahua doorbell with Alexa in the UK, yet? If so, how?
Hi @@IntermitTech , is it possible to show us how you connected the unit to your NVR software? I'm very interested in this as I wanted to see how we could use the camera for surveillance as well. Thanks
@@IntermitTech Hi! great video. everything worked fine unless the onvif. Using onvif device manager tool, it is said that my username and/or password are wrong. but i use them to make it work on android app and home assistant automations. don't understand where i am wrong.
Euhm, for me that would depend on what I configure in Home Assistant? Currently I have it configured that it rings once for 3s. I also have the app go off so that chimes for 20s unless you stop it but that can be configured on or off.
@@IntermitTech that was a fast reply! thank you. i did check it out. it seems that you can either give 24v from the camera to the door which that might not be a safe option as somebody removes the doorbell can just apply 24v to those 2 pins and open the door. and then there is another way that i saw that
In theory they could, I'll end up placing it in it's separate VLAN or doing something with port security, I'll look at addressing it in a future video. But realistically, if they are going to drive up to your house and wreck the doorbell (remember, it's in a metal box) to get to the UTP cable, you have serious issues. :P
Did you manage to fix the problem with p2p? I have the same issue: whatever I try, P2p still remains offline and the push button on the VTO doesn't ring the bell on my DMSS app. I spend many hours to search and try, very frustrating! So please help anyone
All my videos are rendered in 60FPS, they have been for years, but not all my material is actually 60FPS so some gets interpolated. I think the interpolated 60FPS still looks better then bare 30FPS, only downside is when you freeze frame, you will certainly see it.
@@IntermitTech cool :) I just noticed some motion blur so after that I looked at a few different sections and it seemed to be the case for the screen capture, the section at your desk and the section when you were filming yourself and the camera outside.
@@WoLpH My camera footage should have it since that is mostly 30, the screencaps are 60 but they are mostly accelerated a lot or actually slowed down a bit and that might cause it to show too. I believe it's watchable and not that disturbing if you have you a different opinion, I'm all ears. :)
@@IntermitTech No worries, it's not really bothering me. I just noticed a slight hint of it so I proceeded to investigate. As for the screencaps, I noticed it at the loading spinner at 14:30, that seems realtime.

Has VDPconfig changed to Config tool? Also is this application able to do a discovery search across multiple network segments?
Nice wallpaper engine you have going on there!
Hi mate! Great job! Thanks a lot! Still i have a doubt, this doorbell can record who was at the door? Thanks a lot.
It can record clips when the button is pushed but no advanced Ai detection or something like that. I do also record the stream with my NVR so can always look back a few days if needed.
Trying to decide on the mounting of mine. At what height from the ground did you place it. Thanks
For the iPhone it’s called iDMSS plus
They have updated to just DMSS - been using for the last few weeks and works well
Great video as always Quindor.
Hi i got the dahua doorbell and my p2p is showing offline hence i cant access the network through my iphone. Can you please help me. Thanks
Great instruction!
Hey man, I'm planning to use a tablet as a secondary monitor for the VTO. Is it possible to get the video to pop up without clicking on the notification?
Thank you for such a quick reply. Also have you thought about once the button is pushed it shows up automatically on your smart tv's throughout your house either as Picture in picture or as a full screen?
sound like you had the same problem I had. breaking the SIP by changing the unexplained user password vs the sip server user password
Nice. Maybe you're planning to this while tidying up, but I'd fill up that PVC pipe with insulation.
Oh, didn't think of that really. It's basically behind the doorbell but still, not a bad idea of plugging it up. Thnx! :D
I wish they had a 3 unit doorbell version, for small apartment buildings.
Did you look? They have such things!
I bet you can't progress any faster from 6:50 to 10:50 or explain what you are doing better during initialization....😎
Can a person without any prerequisite knowledge do this all successfully? I like the doorbell!
Great video, thanks.
With the screen are you able to bring up a web browser with something like the Home Assistant Lovelace interface (preferably when it's idle)? or can it be flashed with Android as it would be a good POE interface to go on the wall if everything can be done in one place.
On the screen, especially keeping it on for a long time period.
Would this cause screen burn-in?
Looking forward to seeing how the other doorbell is - it has more wife approval factor. Shame it's not wireless though.
It might be nice to have wireless as an option, but as far as I know, this is the only video doorbell I've seen that has ethernet - which should be a required feature for all stationary devices!
Garage door openers - wireless only
Video doorbells - wireless only
Lawn sprinkler controllers - wireless only
So many wireless devices that are permanently mounted!
Sane here. The 'big' doorbell seems awesome, but too bulky to our taste and physically too big for the wooden window frame where the cable comes out
Hi, can the monitors be used for other applications or apps added like a regular android tablet? Outside of just showing the video outdoors, what other features or solutions does it allow?
Same question it seems, check your other comment. ;)
after updating vth and vto, the interface is different on vth, and the long press on settings doesn't work anymore. Do anybody knows the new shortcut?
Thank you for the video. Is there any motion alerts i.e. eufy, Ring, etc.
Also Dude your fingernails could cut steak.
No they don't natively, but an NVR could partly do that for you. It's not all fancy AI cloud based stuff though, so if you'd really be looking for that, this isn't it. :)
And the nails, yeah, especially one is a bit out of control ;)
Has anyone tried adding the RTSP stream to motioneye? I am trying to figure out the address settings and what i could find hasnt worked so far.
Wouldn't be possible to use a VPN inside the house to connect to the Doorbell directly without using their Cloud? I imagine that some RTSP software is available on Google Store for that :) That would remove the use of their cloud possibly :)
Also, regarding the "Room settings", that would be the function to use for their Outside doorbell with multiple "buttons", to be able to configure an external outside for two different houses/apartments, because you basically assign a specific "button" to a room and the doorbell will ring only in that room if that specific button is pressed. Very interesting :)
Thanks for this video! :)
Yup, that's one of the ways I'm going to look into. Block all internet access but add it using a local IP and use something like Wireguard to have a split-VPN on your phone so it could still send push messages, but no clue if that works yet or not. :)
On the other stuff, yup, you can build a whole system with it, including multiple buttons (different model outdoor unit), etc.!
@@IntermitTech Maybe you can ask them to send you one with 2 buttons so that you can show your viewers how that works :P
For the VPN bit, I think it might be only related to find a Doorbell software that uses RTSP or maybe HA for the push notification and a simple RTSP Software for the Audio/Video part. Of course the VPN traffic should be routed for the Doorbell port if you do a different Subnet for your VPN Clients :)
Hello people,
we ordered and received the unit through a seller on A.E.
Can blame the wife since she actually ordered it ;-)
Your videos are both informative and entertaining. We are in the proces of automating our newly being build house (very south of Netherlands) and allthough I am relative technical skilled the whole thing covers a lot of specific areas. From networking to security etc.... Therefor videos like yours are very valuable.. Thanks again!
Next can you try the Hikvision 3MP Doorbell that can be used with a NVR?
If it doesn't have Home Assistant or MQTT integration, it's not that interesting in my opinion.
Very nice video! Im about to order one my self now, and with your help it will be easy to install. One question; could you explain the house doorbell connection a bit furter?
Configuration tutorial with Home Assistant (and thus also doorbell/chime) will be the next video in this series! :)
@@IntermitTech please release it soon or at least post your mqtt code for the buttonpress please -- i just got it installed in my shop and would love to have my ha setup with a simple sound :-)
@@itiot_dk I know it's taking a while, sorry for that.
Once you have the add-on added, I have this in my configuration.yaml:
binary_sensor:
- platform: mqtt
name: Doorbell Button State
state_topic: "DahuaVTO/BackKeyLight/Event"
value_template: "{{ value_json.Data.State }}"
payload_on: "1"
payload_off: "0"
And then I have an automation linked to that. But the video is coming, hopefully somewhere next week, trying for that. :)
@@IntermitTech dont be sorry. youre doing great and i now have sound. many many thanks for your time and very fast reply!!!
Thanks!
I touched on this in the videos, but sadly, no it does not. I do this using Home Assistant and a relay, it's shown in the video.
@@IntermitTech Damn, sorry I missed that part! Feels like I'm back in school asking a question that was covered yesterday!
Regarding the wiring remark:
Nothing as permanent as a temporary setup that works..
Thank you for sharing! I don't understand if I can record the VTO images with a Dahua NVR like mine (NVR4116HS-4KS2) for 24 hours a day. Is it possible?
Yeah should be no problem
@@IntermitTech thank you very much!
and what about HA integration?
Very helpful. Is it possible to view other IP Cameras on the VTH screen?
Yes it is, it supports local (not sure what that does) and ONVIF which I've tested with some of my Dahua cams, but I'll try a 3rd party camera too. H264 only though, that is certain.
@@IntermitTech I wonder whether the Dahua VTH5341G-W Android 10-inch digital indoor monitor would allow you to view the cameras and access Home Assistant. (www.aliexpress.com/item/4000829760361.html?spm=2114.12010612.8148356.1.34827dffDO1JKV)
@@IntermitTech have you tested it ?
I have not tested that screen, no
@@IntermitTech thanks for your reply but I was talking about adding a 3rd party camera ? 😅
Hello, I've bought the same doorbell. Now the app seems to be dmss. Everything is fine except that the person in front of the doorbell cannot ear me. Any clue?
found, i followed the tutorial... witch disable the sound... :p
Is there any way to have the audio P2P server locally hosted?
I believe there is, but tests investigating this will be in a later video! But audio runs through the SIP server in the outdoor unit.
It is compatible with Google home ?
Hmmm... Since it can use sip (by default as server, but maybe also as cluent, e.g. as sip extension in asterix or a fritzbox?), would it also be possible to have it dial a dect phone's internal number and even communicate with audio?
I like a 'smart' doorbell and video is great and stuff, but I have one important use case:
Working from my home office on the attic floor of our house, I need quick and reliable audio contact with the person at the door, especially the parcel delivery couriers who ring and are gone before the 20 seconds I need for running down 2 stairs gave elapsed .
The screens are quite limited, only for the doorbell or watching another camera.
@@IntermitTech Good to see the app really has been well-engineered and provides all help possible to circumvent power management features. In any case, enough options to integrate it. Now only to decide if I will go for this big outdoor unit, or one of the 2 smaller ones you linked. The VTO2111D-P-S2 looks most appealing, if it really provides same quality and features as the bigger sibling (and direct PoE UTP attachment, so no doorbird-like clutters )
this perfect
I’m wondering if this will work with Synology Surveillance Station. With two way audio etc.
Are you aware if someone tried to connect it with the Synology Surveillance Station, yet?
@@markil01 Unfortunately I don't know...
It uses onvif and RTSP so configuring it through surveillance station is no problem. Fijne dag nog Marnix.
You didn't really go into this - but according the the quick-start guide, you've got to set up a computer on a 192.168.1.x network in order to access the device (which has a default IP address of 192.168.1.110) so you can change it's IP address. Is that really the case? If, so, what a PITA.
Dahua with Alexa Show (UK!)
Dahua Doorbell with Amazon Alexa connection- I know this topic (access via internet) is controversial, but I am aiming to display the Dahua doorbell on my Alexa Show via the Dahua skill. There are some youtube videos on how to do this and it seems that the US has a dedicated Alexa skill. But this seems to be missing in the UK Skill store. Has anyone tried to to connect their Dahua doorbell with Alexa in the UK, yet? If so, how?
What do you use as NVR to get both the dorbell and all other home cameras recorded?
I use a software NVR called Nx Witness, I have some videos about it on my channel. :)
Hi @@IntermitTech , is it possible to show us how you connected the unit to your NVR software? I'm very interested in this as I wanted to see how we could use the camera for surveillance as well. Thanks
Just add it as ONVIF or look up the RTSP URL using Onvif device manager tool.
@@IntermitTech Hi! great video. everything worked fine unless the onvif. Using onvif device manager tool, it is said that my username and/or password are wrong. but i use them to make it work on android app and home assistant automations. don't understand where i am wrong.
what if i just want to go to the door and don't talk back when something used the doorbell? does it keep ringing?
Euhm, for me that would depend on what I configure in Home Assistant? Currently I have it configured that it rings once for 3s. I also have the app go off so that chimes for 20s unless you stop it but that can be configured on or off.
How do you make the wires to be able to unlock the door from the app?
There is an internal relay for that, check the downloadable manual, you can see all connection points there.
@@IntermitTech that was a fast reply! thank you. i did check it out. it seems that you can either give 24v from the camera to the door which that might not be a safe option as somebody removes the doorbell can just apply 24v to those 2 pins and open the door. and then there is another way that i saw that
how about someone will dismantle the doorbell and connect to your home network via the network cable? isn't that a security issue? :)
Finally!!!
Yeah, this type of video takes a lot of time to get right, they are coming though! :D
Yes!!
JA Mooi Thanks. :-)
The firmware section is no longer available on the dahua website. Where can they be found?
The Configtool appears to no longer be part of the ToolBox. I was able to download it as a separate program here: dahuawiki.com/ConfigTool
I updated the firmware but the revision number did not change. Not sure why.
So In layman's terms. Are you going to be doing a video where you do not need SIP server on internet and just use your home network?
Yes, going to test if that can work
@@IntermitTech the SIP server is local on the camera, but I would be interested in running my own local server.
Yeah, but in theory if you block internet access and just use local IP and VPN it could work, but have not tested yet!

Completely unrelated to the content... but it looks like your video is 30 fps and converted to 60 fps by youtube. Is that intentional?
