    I built my room for my stereo. My k- horns fit into comers for them. I double insulated the walls and ceiling nd put dow the expensive vinyl flooring . The natural reverb match my speakers. Plus running a pair of Klipsch Belle’s in back on B- channel gives a bar vibe when you turn them on. If you push them beside each other you have a wall of sound. I couldn’t take anymore musics. At little past quarter volume it becomes live entertainment ! My receiver has been turned on for over a month straight ! It’s Bluetooth to my phone where I listen to utube . It rocks and it is very noticeable changing recordings as different recordings or speakers playing makes a Hugh difference. People say they can’t hear the difference in music on utube? Their stereo must be broken or their speakers not very good. My stuff is from the 70’s air is easily heard ! You keep playing samples . The best are recordings with a Zoom two channel recordings ! They are very clean ! You keep throwing down the hammer ! We are all with you Mikey !!!!

    Thanks for this Mickey. Quick clarification pls... Why is it "ridiculous to connect subs through the back of the amp" vs LFE? I have 2 Velodyne and 2 RELs at home for a hybrid 2-channel and HT setup. I followed REL's advice and use my 2-channel amp speaker output to connect my 2 REL's. And I use my HT amp's LFE to connect to the 4 subs' LFE connection. REL claims the best way to integrate subwoofers in 2-channel setup is via speaker output directly (via their neutrik cable). Seeing that REL is quite a respected subwoofer specialist, I'm curious to hear your take on this. Cheers.

    When I used to be a mobile Dj the music gear sales tech told me the exact same information when I bought my Dj rig; active crossover along with a power conditioner, dedicated subs, and separate amps. And I can tell you my rig sounded better than many other wayyyy more expensive Dj rigs. Loved every minute of playing all that great music and rocking the house.

    Removing the lowest octave or two (via an active line level crossover with 24 dB/octave slope) from the signal going to your amplifier/passive speaker crossover combination has a multitude of benefits, including superior integration between loudspeaker output and subwoofer output/s. Other benefits include smoother frequency response throughout the room, better power handling, and lower distortion.

      @Benvos, it helps them sell more subs because it gives a way for the "ordinary Joe" to hook up subs, even if he's using an old 1986 Sony... smart marketing but how stupid does it sound to you to feed the input of one amp with the high level output of the other. Low line level does not have the high distortion that an amp output does... plus this is the best way to blow up a balanced or class D amp. 👏

      LFE is for home cinema and car audio. Why you don't see why a hifi sub speaker connection as a better way of integrating "the back end" eludes me.

    I use the Sublime acoustics crossover in diy form, it's called Xkitz. You have to provide your own case but can save quite a bit of money that way. I used an 19" rack case and of course it's a bit more work but if you're diy inclined it's a fun little project. The full version is handier if you want to change settings a lot but for me it's set and forget.

    great stuff, add more parts if you can :)
    subwoofer integration has always been a bit of a mess for me over the decades, but i needed the extra bass so i accepted the compromises.
    putting a active crossover before the amps feeding the main and subwoofer is a huge benefit.
    i went the minidsp SHD studio route, cost 5 times more than the one mentions in the video, now i have access to time daly the mains, in most cases the one thing that is needed for those who can not place the subwoofer anywhere, as active subwoofers have dsp built in and already is delayed.

    Can you maybe do a video about time-alignment in subwoofer placement? Or maybe there's a different term for it.
    The point you mention in de beginning of this video; bass so good you don't feel no need to dial it up or down depending the song? I finally got to that point by placing both my active subwoofers 5.5 feet behind my speakers. I my search for best bass response I even stacked them on the right side once, copying a live 'festival' setup. Was really good bass, vocals sounded better, but the bass still wasn't perfect. And sometimes I missed something on the left, don't know if that was placebo or not.
    Somehow one on the left and one on the right, 5.5 feet behind the speakers and a bit further apart than my speakers, sounds the best in my room. Speakers stand 6.8 feet apart, the subwoofers 8.3. But the crossover setting etc never changed. Saving money now to get another pair and stack them again, in stereo this time.

Why not set the plate amp to bypass the crossover and rely on only the external active crossover settings instead?

    I have vintage maggies (10qr) and am adding two subs. I am planning on using the speaker in/out on each sub and use the sub to control what frequencies path through to the Maggies. I did not want to use LFE (yes, it is coming through a home theatre processor) or the pre-amp outs for this. Is this logical?

    Mikey, I have REL sub that only goes to 37hz. and towers that go down to roughly 32hz. Crossover low? Around 40 or should I go up to 50-55? Or am I doomed to have cancellations? tx

    • @OCDHIFiGuy
      @OCDHIFiGuy  Рік тому +3

      If your towers go to 32 reliably, then use them without subs, especially some that only hit 37. 32 is a very good low frequency response for towers. That should be plenty. You are probably getting cancelation.

    • @OCDHIFiGuy
      @OCDHIFiGuy  Рік тому +4

      Well you set the gain individually (mix) then use the preamp to control volume at your given mix. Or you do what I do, which is use identical stereo amps on each side, so amp gain is matched to begin with. The mix still comes into play and is controlled at the active xover.
