- Опубліковано 21 чер 2024
- Hi Guys,
In today's episode we show you part one of cutting down weight on our overweight rig setup. It may be time to sell the D-Max if we can't get it under the GVM & GCM but it might be possible tune in to see.
We also share that we are taking part in Dry July and share we are raising funds and donating all money made in July from UA-cam. Cancer touches so many peoples lives every single day, one month without the booze will help so many people who are affected just by cutting the one thing we love! Even your $5 daily coffee donation is something that will help us reach our goal. Thank you guys so much in advance for letting us be so raw and open in our little travel community.
More information below on the organisation we have picked and how to donate,

I make an effort to watch the commercials in full for my favourite channels as it my way of supporting you guys. Good luck with the weight reduction. I tow a 22ft6in van with a 2021 Everest and had to ensure my weights are within limits. Rear axle max is a real trap with most vehicles.
that is such a supportive thing to do, we appreciate your support and it really does help! so true rear axle seems to get most people off guard!
Great video guys as always. Drive safe, take care.😎
Thanks guys, you too!
Also ‘Uncle John’ back again about weights - I’m at the final stage of a three and a half year Hilux/aluminium canopy build - virtually everything except Engel fridge, Redarc/Inverter electrical components are made of aluminium such as the canopy itself, kitchen pantry, drawers, clothes drawers, toolboxes and Lithium battery case - the 50 litre water tank is made of light but strong polymer- I keep my normal spare wheel underneath where it should be and sold my new 1.5 metre steel trundle tray and 50kg fridge slide - I’m only 5’3” 😢 but use a plastic stool for fridge access and replaced the heavy steel rear ladder with a lighter aluminium one - my ‘stealth’ RFT is only 55kg - Hilux factory payload is around 880kg and I’m at around 550kg but will still look at an extra Pedders rear leaf spring and rear heavy duty shocks.
woah what an effort and a half 3 & a half years building a rig! very true that rig builds take time and you can't just throw the kitchen sink at them instantly.
Great episode the issue of vehicle weights is so important. As full time travellers we see so many out here that are either no compliant by choice or ignorance. Good luck on the dry July. We had a fantastic time this year at Camps for a cure in QLD. Over 500 turning up to raise funds for cancer research. It on again next year one to keep in mind and a great few days away. Safe travels guys.
100% caravan weights are something that isn't talked about enough online so we are glad to be able to share this and create awareness. Thanks for the good luck, we are keen to see how much we can raise to help cancer research, we would've loved to go to the Camp for a cure but wasn't local to us at the time - maybe next year hey! Safe travels back to you guys!
Well done guys. Good luck. 😊
Thank you! 😃
Thanks guys really informative and we know what you mean about the bunks we have 3 to make look forward to the next series.
Oh yep 100% feel your pain making those bunks! Thanks so much for watching, glad you enjoyed!
The best advice I can give you about reducing weight is that if something doesn't have two purposes, it should stay at home. Thanks for the video, and good luck with your Weight Loss program. 😁
thanks for this tip, very true in terms of dual purpose items!
I’m getting our new van in September, I’m watching your vids on the weight with lots to learn,
Ps. If people don’t like ginger then bad luck, I love the dogs
Very exciting, September will be here before you know it! Agree, we are dog mad!!
Guys i do have to make one complaint about your channel !! not enough GINGER time😂😂🐾 everyone will watch the ads for your money raising effort. cheers.
HAHA love this comment, Ginger is really the true star of the show and we will have to make sure she makes her star appearances more often! Keen to see how much we can raise for such a great cause!
Hi Guys, Just remember with dropping weight in the van will also help with possibly slightly lower tow ball weight and lower GCM which could give slightly back to the GVM of the Dmax :)
thanks for this tip, something we are hoping!
Them canopies are heavy. No how you feel did the same with my ranger build.Had a big fridge, drop down slide, timber and other gear for floor.Built the inside again with an upright fridge.Did gvm upgrade for the Ranger. Then caravan 2700 kg gtm, still over weight no gcm upgrade on ranger sold house them bought a 200 series Landcruiser.Upgraded gvm 4000 kg gcm 7500 kg and now just done another gvm 4200 kg and gcm 7700 kg getting a new van so let’s see how weights go.It’s really hard setting up things when you think you have weighed everything.Cheers guys best of luck 🦐🐟🦈🎣👍
There is just so so much involved and none of it is talked about enough on the internet, we are grateful to be learning from this and creating awareness of the importance of caravan weights. Happy travels to you!
@@thewilsonstakeonoz safe travels to you and tight lines you’ll be back on the road full time soon 🦐🐟🦈🎣👌
thanks mate
Take off under tray tool boxes
a thought for sure
Thanks young folk for your honest reveal of weight mgt which is so important when many travellers are well overweight - as a recent WA police road blitz discovered - a convoy of grey nomads was apparently checked south of Geraldton and several were fined and forbidden to travel any further until all the weights were reduced - some had to freight several hundred kilos back to the eastern states $$$$’s - a NSW chap was jailed for six years when his wife and another family member died as a result of the crash where the driver’s overweight Prado/Caravan lost control downhill onwards Port Macquarie - keep all your heavy Dmax weight above or forward of the rear axle - a common mistake is carrying a heavy spare wheel on the back of the canopy - it may look cool but you only need a spare tyre and air compressor - don’t fall for what everyone else is doing - ‘Uncle John’ signing out.
Thanks for your positive comment, we appreciate your support ! So true that this isn't spoken about enough and majority of people are overweight towing.
@@thewilsonstakeonoz your most welcome young Wilson’s - stay safe but enjoy the journey.
Thanks John, safe travels to you too!
@@thewilsonstakeonoz you’re both welcome and btw when I lived and worked in Canberra as a public servant my work colleague took me up to her friend’s (barrister from Sydney) new Olive orchard and large processing shed in Mudgee - I taught my friend and her close friend how to pick olives (my experience from picking Apricots in the Barossa Valley forty years ago) - we were there all Easter ‘04 and I even got to crush and produce my own take home robust flavoured olive oil so Mudgee will always be a soft spot for me.
oh wow what a small small world, sounds like a beautiful experience in Mudgee.
Hey guys I am surprised the sales person who sold you the van didn't mention the weight concerns or even ask you the type of tow vehicle you had.
hey, most forbies (4wd's) are targeted to tow 3.5T but unfortunately this isn't the case and there's so much more involved than the gvm of a tow rig.
yeah we were wondering the same thing.
@@thewilsonstakeonoz Forties?
What do you mean by this?
@@thewilsonstakeonoz you said "hey, most forties are targeted to tow 3.5T" what do you mean "most forties"
Maybe different rims and tires might save you some weight
Costly when we don't need new tyres just yet, but something we have thought of. Thank you for the tip
Do you really need the rear seats
good thought on saving weights, didn't think of this !
@@thewilsonstakeonoz
saves taking the mother in law 😂😂😂😂😂
lol..
What is your all up weight
We talk about all our weights in the weigh in vid, go check it out for the breakdown
