Japanese knotweed is a non-native plant species that does not belong in the Netherlands. We suffer greatly from this proliferating plant, as it affects roads, buildings and nature.
In Apeldoorn, in collaboration with Wageningen Research, we have found a way to use this pesky plant for something good. The fibres of this plant are so strong, it gives opportunities for 3D printing.
As a partner in the EU grant project CityLoops (Horizon2020), the Municipality of Apeldoorn shares knowledge with six other European cities in the field of circularity.
By working on several projects on biological waste and construction and demolition waste, we share knowledge on sustainable material reuse. This way, no more reusable raw materials are lost. In turn, we share this knowledge with other cities, so that we in Europe become increasingly circular.
