We discuss the tuning side of things and the results
The D15b is a stock bottom end with a built head configuration
owner is a regular in the autocross circuit and the stock bottom end has been running for 2 years straight from the yard so it is interesting to see the results, knowing a fresher bottom end will make even more.
Next up is the D16zc that we rebuilt here a stock rebuild with just head porting done to it, the rest is stock. Interesting numbers it pulled and we now know how much more it can improve and based on things like the dyno results.
Here's a the video of the D16zc rebuild we did from start to finish at

D15b setup would've been a monster with d15b7 pistons or a higher compression than 9:2:1, ive always had Bseries vtecs and currently a gsr with jdm itr pistons (poor man R) motor but few yrs ago had a delsol shell and threw together d15b7 with y8 head and normal bolt on's I.H.E p28 ecu and was amazed with the power it made almost comparable to a b16 just slightly less aggressive, if paired with better gear ratio like m factory gear ratio it would be nasty little setup that would definitely hang with gsr powered cars.
JDM d15b has 137mm rods so pistons are 27.4mm comp height, the pm3 b7 pistons would stick out 3mm + unfortunately
Dingle power is always cool asf imo they’re a lot of fun especially if geared correctly you’ll be dragging Ks with bolt on, great job guys👌🏼
So true on the fun factor! Yes indeed and the d15b is factory stock bottom end untouched
So fun. If you have an extra 5k or can afford to plan out a journey of a 5k budget, get yourself a single/car with a single and build it the old school way. Honda has so many parts that are interchangeable, for example, a K20 pistons will fit an F23 block and that would automatically boost the compression and be reliable for power on a budget. It’s worth the fun, it’s worth the fame, and it’s worth the pain.
@@trackshun so so true! And an s2k piston is a good bump too!
so many possible fun stuff
F23 block then D2B it with a b16 tranny
u got urself a tight geared torque monstah
@@SRDmotorsports good point. I always wondered about a G23toB. The vtec head only seems necessary for high turbo applications, I’d like a supercharger for an H head rather than turbo anyways so I can keep the high compression that I adore so much. The thing is that the engine is for my cb7.
However, I understand the trans of b16. Given, you’d swap that setup into a civic or integra. If I could get a cheap f23a4, b16 trans with say an Ls 5th (Gsr 4th maybe?), a good head high comp motor, that would indeed be absolutely monsterous. I can only image the sound of an F sohc non vtec motor (i would be using an f22a head) ripping effeciently through gears just pullin to 130 in no time. Good knowledge sir.
nice ! thank you for sharing your SOHC build series SRDmotorspots 🙂
Ofcourse 😎 it’s always fun to share 🎩
That d15b put in good work! Made power like a d16 , that thing is gonna rip 🔥 loved the videos bro
That’s so true the D15b was holding its own!
After a dozen of races since this posted, D15B eg is still holding the same compression!
@@cc2321 now that’s consistency and durability!!!!
Wonder if after an aftermarket ecu are installed if so if it would make a difference?
It already has a tunable ecu a rechipped ecu so an aftermarket ecu will tune the same
D16y8 on a stage 2 crower cam including retainers,springs etc/stock block 9:6 compression,is 140 whp a possibility on this recipe brother?
146-147 whp i believe.
@@washhalhafeez1824 yeah I think that is definitely possible indeed
I recently started a minime build on my EG but i'm still trying to figure out what are the best bang for the buck upgrades.
What would be the expected power figures for this build:
D15b2 block
JDM D15b head
4-2-1 exhast manifold
ported head
increased compression
larger throttle body on stock intake
I would appreciate any tips
the JDM d15b usually makes 120-125whp stock but ecu tuned with header/exhaust so that number is something u definitely would be able to replicate
Did the crower valvetrain fit into non vtec head?
Mine is injection but im using carburetor d13 head
that’s a d15b p08 engine and head so the crower fits it’s not for non vtec carbureted engines
hi bro... can u make a video about air intake?..i mean intake from air filter to throttle body... i am planning to place air filter below headlight... with ram pipe size 3 inch+hks air filter cause it hase built in velocity stack.. is it ok?.. tq
that’s a good video idea as I did some test before I made the channel and I realized it’s a good video to make so I am actually planning that… so soon I hope 😎
The idea u have will work nice because u are adding length like a CAI and usually that gives improvements overall
Question. Is 70mm TB really necessary? Can you run 70mm with stock cams and just ported manifold? @SRD
Is it necessary ? Maybe not but does it help? definitely…
Just like the local VTi we did with cams
Has 70mm was it necessary? Not really
But it did 151whp on full exhaust with muffler
No “scav” or any of those racecar style exhaust
yet I’d bet u “they” stayed 60mm ? 😎
@@SRDmotorsports Appreciate the reply! 1 more question since sinagot mo na hehe what's the best or your recommended build for d15b without swapping cams? Thanks again!!
just the basic , header hood intake and all… the p08 d15b is very decent and strong
I mean granted we all know the D15b is stronger than a local VTi ?
But see a properly maintained stock VTi with just ecu tuning no other nonesense like p08 internal crap… that stock head and block VTi
Ram 15.2sec at the last Motul event.,,
Not bad and quite fast
Now the d15b is stronger a bit? 😅
What you think about some pm3 pistons in a zc vtec
It sticks out roughly 0.028” above deck quite nonesense after making sure the valve pocket matches the vtec head and valves
U slowly end up the same as building the zc with a slight shave on the head compression wise
all the local “smarta$$” that did this always ran slow and parted it out but always talked like it was da bomb…
I know someone with a stock vti stock block and just a tuned ecu on his 4door running 15.2sec l
Is there a huge variance between dynocom and dynojet? Ran mine on a dynocom and got 143
Not entirely sure but the dyno is mainly reference I mean granted I know what whp it takes to run xxx at the 1/4
plus Dynojet seems to be more common so it’s what most has…
What u can do is have a friend dyno too a diff engine maybe a stock b16 so we can see
cuz on a dynojet
Stock d16zc is usually 125-130whp always
Damn! I like how you pay attention to these single jingles, good numbers from these motors show how good of a builder you are!
both surprised us I mean granted the zc was leaning out it was still a good sign
Would it have been a better choice to d16z6 swap the first civic? It would make it stock 130.
Yep but for the cost here it’s already over $1,000 to do that + registration fees 🙁
i stayed 1500 for race purposes (1.3L - 1.5L bracket) and once you go 1.6 you'll be with the B16s
@@cc2321 yes that’s exactly it
Not bad at all thanks for sharing 👍
So true ended up being quite decent for real!
Amigo my CRX is fast po8-3 head bore mild 272 Delta cam regrind with d15b2 block stock on 32/36 Weber carb stock obdo distributor but with better coil assembly and better spark plugs wires. She really run nice and sounds beautiful old school style.Mostly junkyards parts and home made work with y8 head gasket and a bid of intake manifold bore out a bit nothing much .But man man what a different perpy I took it to real a old school carburetor guy and he set me up the Weber carb plus teach me some tricks with the carb and trimming but up hill old school and old school driver he is something else when comes to carbs and trimming set up.old racer in his young days ford guy really .gd job amigo suavecito light it up and smoke it ccr born in the byouooooo
nice
@@SRDmotorsports yeah gd for the streets and traveling gd on gas and simply and fast enough to make others worry jjjj she pull nice sounds nice but she to have better spring and retainers in case I have to ramble a little harder nothing special but nice simple combo and above all simple Weber carb tune with a old vent screwdriver 🪛 jjjj 😁 she real fast compared to stock and her sound with 2 in glass pack and free flow exhaust system is beautiful.Kp the good work but I really don't like computer crap or turbo or VTEC electronics crap I think about it a lot but I decided to go carb and junkyard parts combo and simple enough to have fun and realible engine gd on gas and fun to drive and play around but her sound is to beautiful to be true special in gas station lights parks stop sings she have that old school cam sound with the carb needles and timing .A lot better than fuel injector system sound wise and running wise as well really.Anyway build one with a Weber carb and you will understand my words. If she was build wild i will go with a ford 4 batle carb really and higher adapter .But im happy with my little set up and real cheap to build and fun and reliable .take care bro
Yup
Great video!
I was actually surprised the D15b did well, as most would expect it needs more comp I guess the ported Skunk2 intake we did actually helped
now more curiosities haha
@SRDmotorsports yeah I'm sure that helped a lot!
exciting hopefully we see a next step for both and I can continue follow ups here
Bullet proof engine
both are good street cars today sometimes autocross too
@@SRDmotorsports I'm buying 90s sohc d series. New cars are garbage. Disposable.
Nice
Does not rev high enough n/a needs revs
yup
Nice
Yep!
Seems like too much money for end peoduct.
He competes in a 1300-1500cc race class
@@SRDmotorsportsthat makes sense then.
Yep
Better start making a sl@sh-spec header for your customers 😉
HAHAHA u know what? Just on time, that comment of yours as I’m trying to get ahold of this person down in the East that cuts header flange for a decent cost = so I can get a bunch and start mocking up our header this time
The 151whp vti is actually itching for it? The owner is excited and what’s asap hahaha
@@SRDmotorsportsIt would be interesting to see the improvement on your clients' builds with a proper header 🍻
@@findtherightbeat so true actually it’s actually a burning question personally!!
