- In this video, I show you how to store hard wheat berries in five gallon pails (buckets) lined with a Mylar bag. This is a method of long-term food storage and the preps will last for many years.
Note: The video has a lot of up and down in volume, so I don't recommend wearing earbuds or headphones while watching.

Thank you for sharing. Can you please do a video on recipes that you make with the berries? Bread, cereal etc. Thank you!
Yep, that's the plan. It'll be part of my Cooking From The Pantry series.
@@NextStepSurvival I hope you are recycling everything you’re sharing and showing and I hope you show how you recycle because those empty cans can be your next Herbal gardening containers or fire cooking stoves for camp emergencies I have been trying to research other recycling methods to reduce trash waste for scavengers to backtrack to anybody who has food that I’m learning about for survival understanding
@@TayshimaDABs Actually I did keep the best cans for a rocket stove project I have planned for my grandkids. The rest went into the recycling bin.
Thank you for this demonstration. I'm currently learning how to long-term store food for my family. .
That's great. There's so many things we can put aside for emergencies and I believe there's never been a more important time than now.
Thank you for sharing your time with us 🥰
Great demonstration
Thanks Chip, I need a better mic option. The background sounds are pretty bad.
You’ve got a nice setup for your food storage. Love it! I’ve been using a mason jar for the O2s but I think I’ll get the food saver out too. Wish we could use the food saver on the Mylar bags....THAT would be awesome.
Hi Skittles, there are videos out there on sealing mylar with a Foodsaver but I'm not sure how well it works. I think it has something to do with the smooth surface not letting the air escape. 🤔
Tfs! 👍🏻👍🏻
👍 thanks
Looking forward to seeing a video as to what you will do with them wheat berries.... make them into flour? How much flour will one of those number ten cans make? Curious. Thanks for the Vid. Hope life is good for you and your family. oh, more questions.... further down the line, when you need more berries to do flour, what do you do then? Do you open it up and take out a gallon or so or do you then grind up the whole five gallons of berries? Then you would need to store the flour in doing the same procedure? If you only took out a portion of the berries, then what? You need to do this whole procedure all over again with all those oxygen packets? Sorry for all the questions LOL..... but curious minds want to know.
Hi Dee, I do plan on a couple of videos using wheat berries. As to opening a pail, since I used ziploc mylar bags, I can get away with no o2 absorbers and just grind as I need them.
You might want to check on using the oxygen absorbers and the desiccant packs together. I’m new at this, but, I think I remember hearing on another channel that they cancel each other out. I just thought you may want to check, unless you already know. I just found your channel. I subscribed. 😊 I’m trying to find a reliable company for 7ml or higher mylar bags. Thanks. Love your channel. ❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️
Sorry I missed your comment earlier. A bot actually just stole it from you, I think. Either that or someone copied and pasted your comment as theirs.
Yep, these times are beyond crazy. Anyone living check to check or relying on grocery stores every week is seriously at risk. It's stressful to pay attention as you have, but that's what's going to keep you and yours safe. Great job and God bless.
I've heard the same thing as far as using absorbers and desiccants together.
Try discountmylarbags.com for those bags. I've had good luck with them.
Thank you for this informative video! How long do you estimate that food will last when stored properly in the 5 gallon buckets? I am new to this and would appreciate any advice. Thank you!!
Hi Lisa, that's a big ol' it depends 😉 I'm not an expert but different foods last different lengths of time, depending on quailty and packaging. Some things you can vacuum pack and others you shouldn't. Some food I might keep in the original packaging and toss it into buckets with desiccant packs. Others might not need buckets at all or maybe bins are better suited. It's not complicated but does take a little research for each new product until you got it all down.
People must think its a great storage to raid when things go south?
