Actually it’s easiest to do this daily. I just wash mine (I use 3 per day) with the rest of my daily dishes. I don’t have a dishwasher so it’s just a quick soap shake and 3 shake rinses. Then it dries overnight and I put everything away when I wake up. Putting stuff away takes more time than washing.
I literally bought a 2-pack of my favorite one so that I could let them dry all the way after washing. The one I had before that would get washed and used immediately again and like that girl, I one day noticed some weird stuff in there and figured out why I had a slight cough for a week. 🤢

Very true, and what if you don't put your mouth on it to drink from it? For example, pouring from it into your mouth without contact or into a separate cup. I imagine if you exhale and your breath reaches the bottle, there'll already be some bacteria there but how does it compare to drinking straight from the bottle?
Tips. Note this is for hydro flask. - depends on what you drinking if drink say juices with pulp/debris then those will build up at bottom or rim of the bottle if sit there for good while. Either grab and swish it back and fourth or throughly rinse it before adding new drink fo it. - for sure carry extra lids depending on what you using and replace every 2-4 days depending on use and rinsing it. - once in while grab a napkin and wipe within the rim or nozzle area to remove debris but if noticed black stuff then mold maybe developing. If do same as above swap it out and clean the lid. You can remove the rubber in the lid. I use a knife to go in and pry it out then when needing to put the rubber ring back in I use a chopstick to press down evenly. - if do those rheb you only need to clean the canteen once a week. But again it depend on what you drink, what debris builds up and potentially how fast mold builds up.
I just drink plain water without touching my mouth, i barely clean it and tbh the water doesnt taste bad so far. But i should do it more often but i dont have a brush so i usually just use hot water and soap, closed the bottle and shake it roughly and rinse the soapy water away. I also washed the rubber in the lid once in a while too
I wash mine once a week, sometimes every other week and I thought I was good till one day I smelt mold. I took a close look at the lid and my bottle has two small openings on the lid to let the water out when you drink and I discovered they were black. Despite me washing the lid as well and running hot water through the holes. I guess it's because I don't leave the lid off to dry. I took a q-tip to swap the inside of the holes and they were black. Now I clean it every other day and leave the lid off so it can dry out.
