It's one of the best concerts they've ever had. I saw a dark Hetfield through his playing, he had something heavy pushing on his soul, and it gave me the impression that at this concert he remembered who he was and the old hetfield emerged a little bit but in combination with his nostalgia about the golden youth days. maby that's the reason he went again for rehab, it was something about him at this concert, unresolved issues, it was a very silent hetfield compared to other live performances, even the unforgiven, it was about him that part. i hope he gets well because for me as a fan, any version of hetfield is ok. if the golden days are behind, i am totaly fine with the happy james as long as he is still playing. Maybe watching the show at the theater helped also. :) P.S.: probably knowing that at some point in time you will be physically unable to do what you want, and all of that live vibe will be present only in your memory, and all of this will be gone one day, maybe it's a pretty hard pill to swallow. fuck, all things end, but the memory remains. :)

I saw S&M2 in the theater in Dublin Ireland last night and this was absolutely beautiful!! The whole theater was silent! I feel this S&M topped the first
James actually made a mistake during the "Forgive me, forgive me not" section. He sang one beat late, or rather, he sang the low "Forgive me, forgive me not" three times instead of two like the studio version. Hence, that's why it ended so anticlimactic and he never sang "why can't I forgive me". You can already hear that the orchestra moved on to the solo section, and James just stopped singing altogether. If you start singing along from 5:58 "forgive meeeee, forgive me noooot, forgive meeeee, forgive me, why can't I forgive me" you'll hear that it would make sense then.
@@roncriswell2685 They mention him in the beginning of the film before the concert starts (source: seen yesterday in cinema, yes it was awesome, not as live, but still)
cool that James just sung it, and the strings and stuff were cool, but I think they missed a golden opportunity to not propel and launch that ending and solo into the stratosphere without the rest of the band. Maybe the proper cinema/release version will sound better in the mix, but to me it sounded to flat and weak without the ending.
Watched the gig in the cinema last night. For the whole first half I felt that the orchestra was noticeably more silent than the band, and I couldn't tell if it was down to my cinema or the sound mix. After the intermission everything felt more even and I could tell that the orchestra had its place (as if someone had a word about the sound). Aside that gripe I liked this song the best along with Anasthesia - holy shit that was awesome. The conductor earned his money tonight.
Just a thought. Most Metallica albums are in E standard tuning except for Load Reload and St Anger. I wonder if the charts were written in E then just transposed down a semitone for live or if they were written in Eb.
David Oakes death magnetic is in Eb, the whole album. When they play the older songs live, they tune down to b to accommodate for James’s vocals being lower than when he was younger. With that said, chances are that because they were dealing with James’s range being lower, they likely charted everything in Eb, because you don’t want to have the accompaniment sounding great, but a singer who sounds out of tune or is struggling to hit the higher notes of a song. What I’m more curious about since I never played orchestral music is: is do the symphony tune flat, or do they play flat in standard tuning? If they tune, do the stringed instruments need to be set up and adjusted the same way a guitar does? Like, bridge height, intonation, etc.
Actually Corey both Death Magnetic And Hardwired were recorded in E but Metallica has played live in Eb since the mid/late 90s. And tunes the newer songs down just like the older stuff previous to Load.
Better version of the song. If only it was like this on the album, although the album version was class, this would have ended The Unforgiven trilogy perfectly
Metallica needs to do a song with Lindsey Stirling that would rock she's awesome on the violin and Metallica cross are awesome combine those two together I think that would be great
This is going to be released in very high quality soon. I'm surprised Metallica did not ask people not to record this and spoil it like some bootleggers at a gas station
If you look at their instagram they did post signs saying no audio or video recording. Of course there's always gonna be people that do anyways. I'm thinking that's why all these recordings are of people sitting way in the back not near the front.
rapidslime I saw a vid of someone sitting directly behind the orchestra so that isn’t the case. I think it was Halo on Fire but I had to click off the video cause the guy next to the recorder was singing super out of tune and it ruined James’s vocals😂
It’s the running I think that throws him off. With the guitar it kind of puts you in the right place especially when you always sing it while playing. Hearing it totally different and the sound of the song is completely different. A rock singer alone with a symphony doesn’t really ever happen probably because the range has to be so different.
Dean makredes true, no UA-cam video has ever sounded anything close to what metallica actually sounds like live, even the high quality pro shot ones don’t have a resemblance
