*The Crawl made a memorable debut on performing "Beautiful People" because Reyne appeared with both arms encased in plaster. He was also shown in the official music video with his arms in plaster. He had been hit by a car in Swanston St, Melbourne breaking bones in both wrists, an episode chronicled in the song "Indisposed". Although "Beautiful People" only reached No. 22, it remains one of their most popular songs*
Australian Crawl were so similar in delivery as The Sports. I'm sure James Reyne studied Stephen Cummings song delivery style. The difference is the diction. It's near impossible to understand whats sung in Australian Crawl songs. That was the fun of them.
Yeah! I remember those days of immortality! When the holidays seemed to short . The biggest drag was going to school. And standing outside side the deputy principles office wait to get the stick. Fuck! Those were the days.
Shame it has replaced audio because on the actual show of Countdown there was a weird edit on the miming tape to censor out “cocaine cough” - ironically as kids we weren’t allowed to hear that on TV even though we had the record
aussie kulcha, singing bout the toorak, south yarra, kew, armadale belt no doubt, hed often have a dig at old money was part of theyre charm, the sports were pure inner city poetry, both magnificent groups in theyre own right
You know what he is saying if you are Australian :) I can remember watching this clip when it was first aired in 1979 on ABC's Countdown Australia on a Sunday night. I was 12, and was a Crawl fan from that day on. They should have been a worldwide success, but many of their songs didn't make a lot of sense to those outside Australia because so many of the lyrics related to "Australiana"., such as " they're going out tonight to get their Bombay rocks off ' - this makes fun of those going to the "in" place to be in Melbourne , the Bombay Rock night club. The wikipedia entry for the song is worth a look for anyone interested. I also have a few of their songs on my channel. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beautiful_People_(Australian_Crawl_song)
Yep , the producers thought the song was called " Beautiful Beachball" and had the stage set up with sand and palm trees until the band said its actually "people " 😂

James is a true blue Aussie larrikin and we love him for it
James Reyne doing his best Stephen Cummings (Sports) impersonation.
Other way ‘round.
Lol no chance. Stephen Cummings sounds shit house. Aussie crawl is where it's at
@@jamesgray7576 No Sports were well before Oz Crawl, James alludes to it as well in the Peter Mitchell Australian Crawl doco.

James was wearing the 2 casts when I first saw them perform. I think it was at Bombay Rock in Melbourne.

The garden's full of furniture and the house is full of plants.

It looks live I hope it's live but countdown wouldn't let people do that 🙂.
Mr. Inbetween S02E03
Great show and great choice of song at the end😂😂😂.
Did you watch all 3 seasons. Really sad it’s over.
The singer is named James Reyne, sorta like James Brown , Nobody knows what the fuck he is singing about, but its good!
