Working in law enforcement, my department issues us the Surfire. I had a suspect at gun point going nuts i almost shot. I also had another with a knife on the ground. I had the light pointed directly in his face, which would blind him and keep him back. Didn't allow him time to think, to charge at me. Since it showed how dependable it was, I'll spend the extra money on the Surfire. Doesn't eat the battery either which is great.
I've had both. A couple of things about the Surefire that you didn't mention... you can get the momentary beam by pushing forward on the switch, from either side, making it fully ambidextrous. It also has a better waterproof rating than the Streamlight. And while the Surefire is longer, it's a little thinner on the profile, making the Streamlight shorter but a tad fatter. I had them both mounted to an AR. Of the two, I prefer the Surefire. I find the whole switch control feels a little more robust, and I prefer the ambidextrous operation knowing that it'll switch on no matter what side I end up flipping. With the Streamlight I found myself having to think about which way I needed to flip the switch to activate it. I'm sure if you're used to using it then it's probably less of an issue, but it bothered me. I know a lot of people use the Streamlight and it has a good reputation for being dependable. And i can certainly see how the price would play a part in someone's decision. The Streamlight is a great value and a solid option. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one, but if given the choice between the two, and more importantly if the price wasn't a factor, I'd personally go with the Surefire. With that said, my pocket carry light is a Streamlight (ProTac 1L)
I used streamlights almost exclusively, now. At this point, I have no reason to change. Like you said, preference. I like the buttons more on the TLR-1 then the Surefire. Thank you for your comment and sharing your experience!
Thanks for the info… have olights but thought I would venture into different lights.. it basically comes down to prices… tlr1 hl is 139ish on sale and I found x300 u and t for 225… might spend the extra for the x300….
I do not have a compact but it is on my list of “some day”. It would depend on what I was using it. I don’t doubt it is as amazing as the full size. Not much help but the answer is - yes.

I personally really like the streamlights and use them on multiple applications. I also like the switches more on TLR-1HL vs the X300.
What would you go with on the CZ shadow 2 compact? Thanks for posting!
