I'm lovin this video, I have no idea what I'm doing but it sure is fun to learn. I've had this WII since 2007, my kids used it for awhile then moved on. My grandkids wanted to play but the drive didn't work, found a tutorial on how to change it. Now I'm excited to find out what else it can do. My son says video games are good for my lazy brain, and I think he may be right.Again thank you for taking the time to do this.
Amazing!! Homebrew is amazing for reviving old systems especially when the disc drive doesn't work! Best of luck on your modding journey :)
@@funkyscott47 good to know, I'm not even sure what modding means but I know I will fiqure it out.

Just got done HomeBrewing a vWii and an old Wii - could not have done it with out your high-quality and super-detailed and helpful videos. Keep it up!
I am very happy to help Chris! Thank you for the tip and happy modding :)
This was literally seamless. After attempting to mod my 3ds to no avail, I dug up my dusty Wii and was worried this would give just as many problems. Not a single hitch! Thanks, man!
Tbh the 3ds home brew was easy but to me the easiest was the vita and wii

Followed this work for word!! Absolutely flawless! Thank you so much.
I went into it thinking it was going to be a lot more complicated than what it was.
You explained everything very clear and for somebody like myself that was needed and appreciated.
I can't imagine the time it took to put this video together.

I have remade part of the video to match the new CIOS installer Settings and reuploaded, just in case anyone was curious :P

@@SMendez7717 check out this video on how to split the large wbfs files :) ua-cam.com/video/9-aXSgsL7xA/v-deo.html
So, I just got everything done and it was seamless. Thanks a million Scott!! I haven’t even used a pc in a while and this was so simple. Follow the steps and you’re set.
For those who want to set up your games. Scott told us to make the “wbfs” file on the sd card/flash drive, i however got my games straight wbfs with the ID number and all. Your games should be (wbfs)~New Super Mario Bros [UE2014] (game folder)~UE2014.wbfs (actual game)
The next thing is I had a bit of an issue with formatting my micro sd w/ sd adapter to FAT32. All problems of my own doing. Ensure the micro sd card is properly secured in the adapter, ensure the lock on the side of the adapter is slid up and not down, ensure that when you are going to format the sd card it is not open in files, if it is open or opens automatically once inserted close the window then format. That was it. Just did everything in the video in under 30mins.
this tutorial was really helpful! You cover everything and make sure no one's confused. I do got one problem but I can figure that out on my own (I have no idea how to scroll on the homebrew browser).
I figured it out like 2 seconds after commenting this. On the very small chance someone else encounters the same problem, use D-pad or hold B and point remote up or down

Hey Scott! Im not that tech savy and boy, did it take me a while, BUT after almost 6hrs with all other research included and your genuine guidance, even I (which means A LOT) got it to work :D
I am eternally grateful to you.
You have provided my friends and I with limitless fun :)
I ended up running into a few issues, but so far I've gotten things figured out
here's what I found just in case this helps someone:
if you're getting an error screen such as "exception occurred [lots of numbers]', you're likely using a wii controller like I was. turns out, you can only use the default wii remote when working these things.
another error I got was when trying to install bootmii, it said "ERROR (-1)", something about my sd card came up. there's a few ways you can try, such as:
making sure your sd slider is in the unlock position
formatting your sd into fat32, or if neither of the above work,
follow a guide for the letterbomb exploit, its another way of opening the hackmii menu as far as I know. bootmii was able to work just fine after I did that :D
thanks for this video because i been searching and nobody is explaining it the right way great video
I'm glad I could help! :)

This was a excellent step by step tutorial. It is made easy by having the file to download ready with every thing on it two thumbs up.
Hi, everyone! Just wanted to say, ALWAYS START WITH AN ORIGINAL WIIMOTE. NO aftermarket or motion plus remotes/adapters.
For me, at least with an aftermarket + motion plus built-in, it was freezing at 'Continue' after installing bootMii as boot2.
After a couple of tries turning the Wii off and trying again, it stopped connecting to the internet so I just went ahead and factory reset (freshly unboxed Wii anyways lol).
I finally realized it was probably similar to the inability to use motion plus controllers in WAD managing apps, etc, and pulled out my OG wiimote.
Thank you for every single video on your channel, Scott! I've 'brewed my 3ds and now my new Wii and updated my old Letterbomb Wii with your dope tutorials!
I'm using an aftermarket NYKO remote, and everything worked just fine, maybe it was something specific with the controller you happened to be using?
@wawiator Sweeeeet! Yeah it was probably the fact that it's motion plus (aftermarket motion plus at that lol)
liked and subscribed!
very clear instructions. gotcha coffee. thanks!
ahhh thank you so much :D I'm glad you found the video helpful :)
You helped me mod my 3ds and wii! Thanks
for anyone who can't connect to the internet: this may be because the wii doesn't support modern internet standards the fix is only available for android phones since ios doesn't let you change hotspot specifications
go to settings -> mobile hotspot -> band 2.4 GHz -> security: open
then you connect on your wii from there and it should work
Another way around this is to just manually put your WiFi settings in worked for me and I'm on 5ghz
@@tommiles4508 I will try that because the wifi hotspot is a hassle and annoying thanks
What if you just remove you password temporarily? Or do some routers only use the 5 band?

Great video, super helpful !
This is better then Anton Retro's tutorial because it has more information. Keep being lit
Problem with Anton Retro's tutorials are the fact he botched updating the playlist and didn't outright acknowledge that the apps need to be installed by computer to SD card anyway. So that's a bit lame.
great tutorial as always, on an unrelated note, I was wondering what the process of setting up wiimmfi was for you? In particular for Mario Kart wii/ctgp? Thanks!!!
For me, I just play mariokart through CTGP which has wimmfi built in. But when i used the normal wii, i was use the dns settings change to get wimmfi :)

They still working? I have a wii I would love to do this with
@@tokin420nchokin yes i just modded my wii using this tutorial!
@@tokin420nchokin why wouldn’t it work? This video is only 2 months old.
@@zvennn I keep reading that you shouldn't follow these because they get outdated quick. I guess there's a lot of conflicting information. Not really the end of the world if I destroy it seeing that they are so cheap
It works
This tutorial is really helpful and was overall very easy to follow. Thank you
A couple things that I would like add with the hiccups I faced during the process though:
1) Yes, SDXC cards (SD Cards over 32GB) do work as long as you format them to FAT32 with 32kb or 16kb cluster size (32kb is ideal). You also have to format the partition as Primary, NOT Logical. If you format the partition as Logical BootMii will refuse to load and the disk will blink blue and you have to force shut the Wii down.
2) Since I used a MicroSD to SD card adapter, sometimes the Wii will refuse to read the MicroSD. This was due to me removing the MicroSD and inserting it into a MicroSD to USB adapter and reconnecting it. I think the connections were not working sometimes when reinserting it so if your sd card slot in your PC does not work for some reason, use a full SD card to USB adapter and avoid removing the MicroSD from the SD Card adapter.
So say if I buy a SDXC 1T card would it work?
@@Pink_kirb Theoretically yes if you format it correctly. However since 1TB cards are quite expensive right now, 64-256GB would be the sweet spot, unless you have a bunch of unused spare cards lying around.
You can fit most of your game collection into 64 or 128GB already with a bunch of clearance, 256 maybe if you want to get all Wii + Gamecube games?
@@aloxite5782 Alr thanks for the info!

What SD Card do you reccomend? Great video ! Thanks.

Thank you man you explained everything so perfectly
Can you do the same full video for WiiU? A longer one that I can start with from 0 and finalize with all relevant installed? That would be a dream! Your shorter videos are great, but I have to admit I don't know where to start or what is actually up-to-date or not
That is a great idea :) I will start working on getting that video put together but these ones take a lot of work :P
@FunkyScott47 yeah, I can imagine! Thanks for the great job so far!
Maybe you can consider taking older videos and ordering them in a bigger one, or even creating an always "up-to-date" and sorted Playlist? Right now I have the feeling the order in the Playlists are random and some videos are just from older versions or different CFW, so I don't really know where to start and in which order :P
@@andresr905 That's a really good point actually, I will look into organizing them :)
@@funkyscott47 I would love to see that! You are doing great so far :)

Thank you for helping me get through this! Was kind of scared I would mess something up but you were a big help! (Also I heard you got married and wanted to say congratulations! 🥳🎉)
I'm glad to help! And thank you so much :) happy modding!
I had all the files you said in your other video on my sd card and was missing the beginning steps in this video 😅 bless my little heart
this is such a great guide, super helpful! quick question though: i had some downloaded games i dropped in the wbfs folder on my sd card, but the games didn't show up in usb loader gx. they were wbfs files, so i dont know what the problem may have been....any advice?
I have the same problem
You have to create a folder for every data in the wbfs folder
(you have to name all those folders like the game !)
at the end of the games name you need to put the ID with [this] symbols
((square brackets ))
inside of the folder with the name of the game you have to put the wbfs file data
ex:
open up the wbfs folder on your usb stick, you see "Mario Party 8 [RM8P01]" and in this folder you find the file "RM8P01.wbfs"
the number is found this way
game file and game id google search
just rename your files like this and it should work with everygame below 4 GBs
all games which are bigger need a manager to send to the usb device
@jynx1891 so i just ".wbfs" on every game file? At the end?
Figured it out. You have to use "wii backup manager" it'll create a folder with the game by itself
Very helpful. One question, some games won’t start. Once I load them from usbloadergx it returns me to Home Screen. How to fix that?
Have you found a solution I'm having the same problem 9 months later lol

I use temporary other stats but it works too now i delete the d2 ... installer and use your stats it works
