Solid review as usual. I can say just in the last year, moving up to 1/10 scale from the smaller stuff, it's a massive difference in what you can tackle. I love my 1/14 scale cars, but they can only do so much.

Depending on your point of view, I am fortunate or unfortunate to have an Xmaxx. Yes, it had to be upgraded. The servo failed after one battery charge, as did the gears, but these large cars always bring a smile to my face and attract people to come over and have a chat. One particular day, when I was Xmaxxing off various banks of grass, a chap approached and claimed that the Xmaxx landed better than his planes did!

Perhaps its just me but a car that fails after 1 battery pack is not a good car,,, I know that there are millions of Traxxas fans but replacing parts that frequently is just silly,, my view of course. In short if I had spent over 1000 pounds on an RC and it had issues after 1 battery pack I would be taking it back to the place I bought it as a product not fit for purpose.

large scale are good for the hardcore RC hobby fan but for everyone else who enjoys it from time to time 1/10 or even smaller is good enough. For my son he gets on really well with his HBX 2996A and I am waiting for his new truck the Rlaarlo omni terminator. We also have a big rock, Zorro brushless and hypergo (mini infraction model). For us they all stretch our ability and as we generally play about once every 1 or 2 weeks I don't see our skill level reaching a point where we need to buy a huge car. Im pretty sure we are not alone and most people treat the RC hobby this way. Good video...

I love my large scale. I have 3 Primal RC raminators which is huge compared to the Xmaxx. I love my Xmaxx but the brand new Arrma Kraton EXB iMO blows it out of the water when it comes to performance and also now reliability. They listen to their customers when it comes to weaknesses. When you find me driving my RC cars you are correct, most of the time I'm driving my 1/8 scale bashers like my Kraton Exb, Corally Kagama XP 6s, Traxxas Maxx, Rival MT, Traxxas Trx4, or my Tekno buggy and truggies. My large scale is mostly for when I meet up with other UA-camrs to have an RC drive meet at a rented-out area. I can't take my Primal RC Raminator places where there are parked cars or kids. It can kill someone or damage a car like a real car accident. I love my Infractions for street bashing.

Thats epic man! The raminator is on my list for sure!

Large scale RCs are worth it, IMO. However, you need to know what you're getting into. With the exception of the XMAXX (and probably the XRT), they break pretty easily, and repairs are very expensive. I spun out my DBXL E after like 10 minutes and hit a curb, and I had $230 in damage-and a month wait for replacement parts.
That being said, don't discount the small scale RCs, either. You'd be surprised how addicting they can be. I started with the Mini-T with brushless upgrade, and I got hooked lol😊. I picked up the Granite Grom, the MT14 Reflex, and am probably going to grab the Typhon Grom, too. I'm telling you, the minis' can get their claws into you, man😅.

Seriously considering a 1/5th Rovan Shorty or FG Marder or something. Trouble is I'm lovimg my Rlaarlo DM12 desert buggy, its just awesome for the money as is my 1/10th vntage 2 brushless version. only prob is they get bogged down in longer grass (although to be fair the Rlaarlo is surprisingly good). what really surprises me though is the Rlaarlo has even better stabilty inspite of being set higher.

Good video and good question! I’ve got RC’s from 1/18 all the way up to 1/5th and I absolutely love my Xmaxx….but that said my most used car had to be my Kraton 4S (I know they call it 1/10 but I think it’s more or a 1/8 scale). I think that’s the sweet spot, small enough to just sling in the car with 1 battery for a quick bash or take away for a weekend without annoying the wife 😂, light enough to inspire confidence to really send it off jumps but big enough and fast enough to take some hits and feel you are running a serious bit of kit! Each to their own though, whatever you enjoy the most 👍🏻

In contrast, I have all the RCs varied from 1/28,1/24,1/18,1/16,1/14,1/12,1/10,1/9 & 1/8 actually the sweet point is 1/10 and 1/12 for easy and cheap maintainence, easy to carry, big enough for most obstacle

  • @Reindeer911
    @Reindeer911 3 місяці тому +1

It's all a matter of perspective. I've always loved big models regardless if they are scale, R/C, or whatever as the size alone generally makes them look impressive, and they feel more stable and substantial in the field. HOWEVER I have actually found myself going in the opposite direction lately with R/C cars towards smaller models, and generally finding I'm falling in love with 1/12, 1/14, and 1/16 models. Mainly because they offer more places to run, and obstacles that are nothing to a really large model like the Xmaxx can become an interesting challenge to a smaller model. That and some companies like WPL, WLToys etc. really put together some surprisingly decent stuff for a very reasonable price tag.

I have a simple philosophy, if you enjoy it and can afford it, then it's worth it, if not, well. That being said, if you are like me, a $1000 XMax costs at least $2000. So, for me, not worth it, but my $750 2wd Slash is worth every penny.

Heya Ricky! I guess these big giant rc cars are totally justifiable if you have have a big giant wallet. Speaking for myself I’d much rather have many other smaller cars and crawlers than spend all my money on one of these big ones. Also, something this big is awesome but , unless you have a place you can run it , one may have to spend even more on gas to travel to places one can use it. I do love these, but if I had $1500 to spend I would buy more varieties, and classes of smaller Rc’s.

Bigger is not always better (that's what she said). I like my 1/10 crawler but spend a lot more time with my 1/24 and my favourite is my 1\16 basher that i can put road tires and drift around the garage or dirt tires and bash the hell out of it on any terrain. Portability means you can have fun without waiting for a closed road at 2am in the morning. Also, smaller scalenparts are cheaper, batteries ultra cheap and tires usually last longer.

I just got into the hobby in January 2023. I bought an xrt ultimate and crashed it within the first 15 minutes of my very first session. Cost $500 to fix at the hobby shop. U bought a Sledge to hold me up until the xrt got fixed. I don’t like the Sledge. Big RCs are just much better. I’m buying an Xmax this week. Don’t let the brokeys in the comment section fool you. Big RCs are worth the money. Of course, money is no issue for me. So I get what I want. If money is a concern for you, then obviously you need to sleep accordingly. But let’s be honest here. They cost more, becuase they are more fun. I get if you can’t afford it but don’t lie to yourself and act like they aren’t better. And by afford, I mean that you can bash it, fix it, etc. with no problem.

Bro, great video! I have an Xmaxx (don't have any nitro RCs, mostly for the reasons you mentioned), and absolutely love it. I have a ton of other RCs, and it is my favorite. Firstly, none of my other RCs are close to being as capable, but, most importantly, I have put my Xmaxx through things that would leave me with a bucket of parts on my other RCs, and other than the body, literally nothing has broken yet. In fact, I bought a ton of upgrades for it, and decided that I'd just install them as things broke, and those parts are still in their original packaging.
I actually told a friend, just a few weeks back, that I might need to start installing them, regardless, because they are better parts (in theory), and it will be money wasted otherwise.

Rc is a great hobby. Especially now that everyone is addicted to UA-cam/Netflix and their phones. $100 gets you a 40mph car to start out! Even with 1/16 cars I get nods and smiles from cyclists, pedestrians and even cars slow down to check it out. It's fun!
