  • SKYWATCH is a sci-fi proof of concept written & directed by Colin Levy. Six years in the making, funded via Kickstarter, and crafted by volunteering artists across the world.
    Starring young up-and-comers Uriah Shelton (13 REASONS WHY, LOOKING FOR ALASKA) and Zach Callison (STEVEN UNIVERSE, THE GOLDBERGS), the short also features a cameo by Jude Law.
    When two outcast teens hack into a ubiquitous drone delivery system to pull a prank on their neighbor, they accidentally crash-land a dangerous prototype - and find themselves entangled in a life-and-death conspiracy.

      Jude Law's character works as a thumbnail, especially if you've got him looking menacing - he represents the enemy in the short film. But the kid is the one who carries it, and he does it well.

      It is interestingly told. The audience is dropped in the middle of the action and still there is so much exposition snuck in there, as if this is part of a huge world which the characters really inhabit. This is the opposite of current VFX cinema, were everything gets spelled out and were the universe ends exactly where the frame ends.

Who are the rebels in the van? Without that, the great vfx would be boring and without the vfx, the story wouldn't be so relevant. This was fun. Nicely done.
    What happened to the friend? Who is the company man? What's his story? Who designed the spinning emp? Why didnt she say "come with us if you want to live?"
    What does mom do when she realizes the guys are gone? How long does that take? Sounds like it could be a good arc. If a tree falls in the woods and no one is there to hear it, does it make a sound? Is Tom Holland too old or expensive to play the lead? How much wood would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?
    (These are questions i imagine you'd probably get if you were to use this to pitch a feature length movie aha)

      Yeah...like why do delivery drones have gas canister weapons. Why was it so easy to turn on that setting? If they wouldn't have turned on the setting would the drones still have attacked them for messing with their shit? Or did they turn on a program that turned the drones aggressive to people who messed with them? How has this happened before if they just turned on the setting? Theres obviously an entire underground group devoted to fighting delivery drones gone bad. So did everyone in that group hack the drones, turn on that setting and then get attacked first? That just doesn't make sense maybe im missing something. Of course it all needs more context I guess but that just seems convoluted. Like okay you have to hack into this delivery drone service, then turn on a bad setting and then if youve done something bad the drones attack you or they attack you for turning on...the setting?

    As someone who listens to filmmaking podcasts everyday this ticks all the boxes of what they they talk about when it comes to proof of concept shorts. You have a great concept, it’s produced well, full of wow factor, well acted, fantastical theme, you can see where it will jump off to, has a named star (and a big one at that) already has great marketing in place etc etc. If this doesn’t get you ‘in rooms’ then I don’t know what will. Well done to all involved.

      This is actually a rather ugly thing to say to a filmmaker. It means that you're not willing to pay for it on a theater (or renting it for streaming). Most filmmakers want their movies in theaters or in stores, not on wall gardens.

    • @masterxeon1001
      @masterxeon1001 4 роки тому +1

      @@EugeniaLoli Well I definitely meant it in terms of the length. Id see Colin wherever I could. When I say netflix is because the length and premise reminds me of Black Mirror. However Amazon Video has Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams which wasn't bad either but a different look to it. I meant no insult to Colin. I'm rooting for him!

    • @RuthwikRao
      @RuthwikRao 4 роки тому

      @@EugeniaLoli it's fine you probably don't know who you're replying to lol. Masterxeon is one of the most well known contributors to the Blender community (blender was used for the CG in this short) and he has been supporting the development for a while now, so there's no reason to think the intention behind him saying this is to not financially support the art in whatever form it takes. He develops amazing addons (Boxcutter and HardOps) and from that money, he gives back to the community and in the same way, because of the nature of how encouraging and close knit the community is, financial support for the people of that community (of which Colin levy, the director here is) becomes a no brainer really.
