What this Turkish video propaganda is not saying:
1. No EEZ can be legally claimed or defined unless two neighboring countries agree under International law for the sea. Neither Greece or Turkey can legally claim any area in international waters. This is why Greece is seeking talks with Turkey to agree and mutually define their EEZ.
2. Under the international law for the sea, if the countries cannot agree then they can jointly agree to accept to go to Hague International court.
3. Turkey has not signed the International law for the sea.
4. The maps sown indicate claims for EEZ and not an agreement which may be or not agreed by an international court, the just show what the International law provides but this may vary after consideration by the International court. The International court may decide a compromising solution that will have to be accepted both by Greece and Turkey.
5. Cyprus is a separate issue that needs to be discussed as a conflict between Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots. Turkey is not a guarantor by its own there are three guarantor members. UK, Greece and Turkey. Turkey invaded Cyprus totally on its own against UN resolutions and the other two guarantors.
6. The story of the conflict needs much more analysis than the statement made about butchering Turkish Cypriots that needs much more analysis.
7. Cyprus is a UN and EU member. North part of Cyprus is not a UN recognized member.
8. Greek Cypriots have accepted to share of the Future benefits with Turkish Cypriots.
9. Any threats against Greece or Cyprus are illegal according to UN regulations
10. These comments consist only a part of the response I could make to clarify the situation. The real fact is that Erdogan is trying to become the leader of the Muslim world as a new Calif and act against all West as a real Sultan of a new Ottoman Empire and present west as the new crusaders against the Muslim world . This is not true.

@@numanmuhammadali9350 Turkey was supposed to intervene to stop the illegal annexation to protect the Cypriot government for all Cypriots but Turkey invaded instead and occupies 39% of the Cyprus since 1974. Greece and Turkey both broke the guarantor treaty because they both tried to annex Cypriot land. The guarantor treaty was about guaranteeing Cyprus's independence which both Turkey and Greece broke.
The Greek Cypriots did not want to kill the Turk Cypriots, that's Turkish propaganda. That was EOKA B fighting against TMT, TMT wanted to give 50% of Cyprus to the Turks when the Turk Cypriots were like 10% of the population in those times. The killings were between EOKA B and TMT. 96% of the population voted for Makarios who was against EOKA B so almost all Greek Cypriots were against any killings. EOKA B was also killing Greek Cypriots too and tried to help Greece to annex Cyprus. But 20% of the Turk Cypriots were members of TMT so the 10% minority wanted to take 50% of the whole country. The Greek Cypriots stopped wanting unification with Greece in 1967 when Greece became a dictatorship but the Turkish invasion happened in 1974.
The Cypriot government said no to American bases and had relationships with other communist governments which made the USA paranoid that Cyprus would fall to Soviet communist hands. So because Cyprus refused American bases then the USA in 1964 made plans for the invasion of 1974. The Turkish invasion was the USA'S and UK'S plan for NATO to stay in Cyprus and also for the UK to keep occupying Cypriot land forever.
Do not forget that when Greek Cypriots in 1955-1959 were fighting against the British occupiers the Turk Cypriots (by the help of Turkey and Britain) fought against the Greek Cypriots that were fighting for freedom from the British colonizers and to unite with Greece since the majority of the population of Cyprus wanted it because they respected democracy unlike the Turk Cypriots that didn't (keep in mind that 96%+ of the Greek Cypriots didn't want to unite with Greece anymore after 1967 when Greece was under a dictatorship).
Basically the Turk Cypriots were fighting for the British to keep occupying Cyprus, they assisted the colonizers.
Turkey did propaganda that Greece would kill or expel them all but that was a lie and the reality is that the Turkish minority in Greece only increased after the population exchange of 1923 but the hundreds of thousands of Greeks in Turkey and Egypt were forced to leave and today only a few thousand Greeks are remain there.

It has nothing to do with the length of the coastline but it has to do with the distance from the coastline. The sea must be divided based on the distance away from land (Greek islands are Greek land surrounded by water).

Indonesia and Malaysia do not recognize Northern Cyprus. Pakistan also withdrew recognition in the early 80s. Also they all signatories of the UN "Law of the Sea". They are all on Greece's side.

Are you serious? The Greek army comprises 100,000 men. The Turkish army has 437,000. Greece would be insane to attack Turkey.
But let's assume the Greek soldiers are so superior to the Turkish soldiers, that 100,000 can defeat 437,000. What would Greece gain from an attack? In 1920, they invaded Turkey to annex Asia Minor and liberate the 2 million ethnic Greeks who lived there. Today there are no Greeks left in Turkey.

I don't believe that's true. Where did you get that information? I have been trying to find information about how this. All the Turkish sources say "Greece is arming its islands", but they don't say with what they are arming them. All the Greek sources say "Turkey is deliberatly misinterpreting the treaty of Lausanne". International sources only mention units of national guard and anti-air batteries.
I believe Turkey is making the whole argument up, in order to gain a bargaining tool against Greece, and to polarize the Turkish people and distract them from the deplorable domestic situation. You are forgetting that the article 2 of the paper written from UN that any island that is threatened by another country should be militarised in order for the country to defend it's sovereign rights. Kastelorizo should be militarized in order for Greece to defend it in a possible Turkish invade.

I meant the straits but this article was removed by the treaty of montreux. The straits were autonomus so they can be protected. And so were the Aegean Islands except the Dodecanese. Which basically means that Greece has the right to militarise those islands. About dodecanese now, we protect them because Turkey is a hostile country and u can see that everyday by its announcements and the violation of our airspace by their aircraft

1. The Aegean islands are ALL Greek and you have signed in Lausanne that you don't have any island that is away 3 miles from your coasts (except Imbros and Tenedos.)
2. Kastellorizo is given to Greece in 1947 by Italy and has full economic life, thus is entitled to EEZ. Demilitarization was signed between Turkey and Italy, Greece hasn't signed anything like that with Turkey. As long as Greece is everyday threaten with war, it is silly to ask to leave our islands without army.
3. The northern cyprus is not a UN country, therefore international laws are not applicable - no rights of EEZ. It is an invaded area by Turkey, only recognized by Turkey, and officially is part of the Republic of Cyprus.
4. Greece has right to extend its territorial waters to 12 miles , by law, without the obligation to ask anyone, it is a sovereign maritime law right. Casus belli voted by Turkey on this matter is unacceptable to modern civilized world.(if Turkey belongs to).
5. The agreement with Libya is only with Sarraj party, it hasn't been ratified by the libyan parliament. So it is invalid for the international law.
6. On the contrary, Greece and Egypt has signed an agreement ratified by both parliaments, and the result is send to UN by both countries, so it is a law in east mediterranean. That exposed the blue homeland theory, and became obvious to the public community, that Turkey interprets international law as it likes.. besides, turkey hasn't signed the unclos treaty of the maritime law, that's why don't follow any law.

They had a referendum in Cyprus and Turkish Cypriots voted yes for unification and Greeks voted no. The last thing you're allowed to do is complain about Turkish influence up north when you literally didn't want to unite so you don't have to help the north financially. There is no feel of unity there then clearly and we can move on. The result of that referendum was the North becoming more and more Turkish, now you might blame the north for this but it happened through your own hands.

But I have to deal with Greeks saying everywhere, everyday that it's all our fault the island isn't unified because Greek media really loves demonizing Turks, when they were the ones attacking first (even the Britts can agree with this) and even voting against unification. Turkish Cypriots have much more feel of unity despite the attacks and people telling us to go to Mongolia or other racist things even after years we still want unity and so does the south according to them. It said a whopping 35-40% of Greeks learn bad things about Turks at home growing up in this era! No wonder they voted against with such propaganda to kids. and only 5-6% of Turks do so (mainland). So the animosity is first of all not on the Turkish side, only on both governments and the Greek people. I agree on the military forces which once again would be solved if they voted for unity. Turkey isn't going to leave the island with the Turkish Cypriots future unclear, we know what happened in the past when that happened. Both sides aren't independant at all from the mainlands, once again this could be solved through unity and entering EU... South Cyprus is more independent as it can go out and work with others, we can't. No one recognizes North Cyprus and no one cares, to say there are other options besides Turkey for TRNC is just a lie. We don't have it and we are close to Turks so if even South Cyprus with all it's independence is basically still a Greek puppet state, I think it's ok for us to help being fed by a brotherly country lol. Let's face it, had the unity referendum been passed, many things could have been solved by now, even many south Cypriots agreed with me on this. Nowadays it's just pretty much non-fixable. And all the west can do is just blame Turks because that's a default.

Greece liberated the Aegean Islands (entirely populated by Greeks) in the Balkan Wars, by defeating the Ottoman Navy. To TRT World: You are not taking under consideration the UNCLOS, Article 3 in which it's clearly written that the island can have EEZ. For Turkey's bad luck, it happenes that these 3 islands (Kastelorizo, MEgisti and Ro, all with economic life on them) are standing there so they create a Greek EEZ. If Turkey doesn't agree, then the road to ICJ is open, isn't it? You already know that discussions with warships out there can not start as it needs from both sides to make one step back until an agreement occurs.

They want to force Greece into negotiations otherwise they seem to be adamant to force it militarily like they did for Cyprus. So I think it is best to just include them and give them a bit of the cake because they will take it either way and Greece would never accept as well a 2 km coast right. So don’t force on someone else what you do not want for yourself. A win-win solution can be found.

Greece is economically exploited by the western powers. It would be best if the two rivals were to join forces for strategic reasons and let all other beneficiaries be kept out of their region. The Turks should make the Greeks an offer regarding the research ship and divide the finds among themselves. French, American, British and Italian gas and oil companies have no business there and should be isolated. Islands possess the same maritime zones as other landmasses, including a territorial sea, contiguous zone, EEZ, and continental shelf. Islands do not need to be inhabited to create those maritime zones; they onlyneed to be capable of sustaining human habitation or economic life.

Also, a country cannot tax a sea route between two continental countries that has a coastal line facing each other just because they have an island in between. You can look up the French-British maritime court case results over the channel islands. There are many more examples of the same situation between many other countries. Please research them.

According to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea AND the customary law, Greece has the right to extend its waters to 12 miles. Turkey has itself applied the customary 12-mile limit to its coasts outside the Aegean, but does not apply this law for the Aegean! So Turkey speaks of the law whenever it suits it's national interests. But do not forget, the Aegen was Greek, thousands of years before even the idea of Turkey existed. Greece will never give away even one inch of territory. After Greece's military modernization plan is completed and Greece has the absolute military dominance in the Aegean, with it's F35 fleet and Belharra frigates, along with the already delivered Rafale jets fleet, the 12 miles will be implemented and Turkey will have to obey to international law and treaties, war will be no realistic option anymore.

Turkey was supposed to intervene to stop the illegal annexation to protect the Cypriot government for all Cypriots but Turkey invaded instead and occupies 39% of the Cyprus since 1974. Greece and Turkey both broke the guarantor treaty because they both tried to annex Cypriot land. The guarantor treaty was about guaranteeing Cyprus's independence which both Turkey and Greece broke.
The Greek Cypriots did not want to kill the Turk Cypriots, that's Turkish propaganda. That was EOKA B fighting against TMT, TMT wanted to give 50% of Cyprus to the Turks when the Turk Cypriots were like 10% of the population in those times. The killings were between EOKA B and TMT. 96% of the population voted for Makarios who was against EOKA B so almost all Greek Cypriots were against any killings. EOKA B was also killing Greek Cypriots too and tried to help Greece to annex Cyprus. But 20% of the Turk Cypriots were members of TMT so the 10% minority wanted to take 50% of the whole country. The Greek Cypriots stopped wanting unification with Greece in 1967 when Greece became a dictatorship but the Turkish invasion happened in 1974.
The Cypriot government said no to American bases and had relationships with other communist governments which made the USA paranoid that Cyprus would fall to Soviet communist hands. So because Cyprus refused American bases then the USA in 1964 made plans for the invasion of 1974. The Turkish invasion was the USA'S and UK'S plan for NATO to stay in Cyprus and also for the UK to keep occupying Cypriot land forever.
Do not forget that when Greek Cypriots in 1955-1959 were fighting against the British occupiers the Turk Cypriots (by the help of Turkey and Britain) fought against the Greek Cypriots that were fighting for freedom from the British colonizers and to unite with Greece since the majority of the population of Cyprus wanted it because they respected democracy unlike the Turk Cypriots that didn't (keep in mind that 96%+ of the Greek Cypriots didn't want to unite with Greece anymore after 1967 when Greece was under a dictatorship).
Basically the Turk Cypriots were fighting for the British to keep occupying Cyprus, they assisted the colonizers.
Turkey did propaganda that Greece would kill or expel them all but that was a lie and the reality is that the Turkish minority in Greece only increased after the population exchange of 1923 but the hundreds of thousands of Greeks in Turkey and Egypt were forced to leave and today only a few thousand Greeks are remain there.

In this specific case, the PM was asking for the US to get involved because a NATO country is threatening another NATO country’s territory without justifiable cause or arguments which is threatening to the internal stability of NATO. We never provoke, we never pick a fight with the Turks. The “disputed” waters that the US likes to talk about are actually not disputed according to the UNCLOS. We are not groveling we are just telling you that this nation is a dangerous bully. Act as you believe is right, but I am not sure you understand how strategic the area is for the US.
Concerning what you said about third parties getting involved: They are trying to bully us and we are trying to defend ourselves. Turkey does not want larger countries to get involved because then they lose a bully’s only power, size and strength. But that’s not how diplomacy works, they are not playing a fair game here, so we can’t play fair either. Countries who are threatened form alliances to prevent a war, which would be far more catastrophic for everyone. Europe understands this. Even the nations that have strong economic connections with Turkey are still condemning its actions and are still getting involved with sanctions. So you see, in my opinion yes, France is the only country willing to help in a military escalation, at least this is what they’re saying, but all the other countries are still against what Turkey does and threaten it with sanctions.
To answer your final argument about negotiations: Turkey will probably tell you that we are bullying them, only they don’t have an international treaty, ratified by 170 nations and binding for everyone, on which to base their claims. DESPITE this, Greece still wants to have a civilized dialog about the disputed issues AND is willing to map out the problem for it to be solved by the International Court in case dialog fails. Greece’s only red line is that the UNCLOS is respected. Turkey does not accept this so they don’t take their ships from the so called “disputed waters”. The problem is Greece cannot enter negotiations with military warships casually blackmailing us. Even if the area is “disputed” dialog can STILL not start because the opposing party has militarized a disputed area. So you see Turkey is forcing us to ask others to help us START negotiations.
Turkey is now backed into a corner. They can’t enter dialog because they’ll look like fools in the eyes of the citizens. They can’t go to war, because they are poor because of Erdogan’s ridiculous handling. They also can’t go to war because they’ll theoretically have to face France along with Greece and destroy NATO in the process. They can’t continue their provocations because they’ll get serious economic sanctions. They can’t ask for military help because thry are only supported by fragmented and weak countries.
And this my friend is how diplomacy works. If we sat and waited Turkey would be acting like a winner in a war by now. Believe what you want, but the West should be done with this kind of behaviour by now.
