Worked for an auto parts company in Aus for 30 years and we used to sell ASNU machines and funny this is the first time I have ever seen one in action. After we took the initial enquiry we used to hand over to our equipment specialists so yeah. Interesting video cheers.
Great content - having only ever worked on pre-fuel injection bikes it’s fascinating to learn about fuel injection and the diagnostics kit needed - always educational
We had one of these, similar issues, but the biggest problem we had was the airbox breather very very annoying. glad you sorted it. My vapour blaster is my fav thing to do in the day, great videos, riding an SB8 is something else the induction noise, the suck sound is so cool.
I wonder if the designers of the intake system knew that the pattern was bad and designed it to impact the other side of the intake manifold in order to get atomization through cross flow of the air and the impact against the other side.
We have injectors at the company I work for that have the same spray pattern (no atomised spray) that are fitted to a few cars.. doesn't make sense to me either 🤷 thank you for the fantastic videos you are doing. I'm hooked👍
Thanks for showing us this machine as you put it thru the paces..... I'm no mechanic & the closest thing to this I've ever dealt with is an oil furnace, but that's not dealing, apples -n- apples. I never knew machines existed to diagnose like this as I just thought if it was bad you changed it? Well, that's the difference between you & other folks out there. peace
I should have a couple of low milage ones in my pile for a TL1000, somewhere? Mine was going onto 1 cylinder (TL10000S), turned out to be a failing TRE unit. With your's being the posh version, probably all goes through the power commander. Just thought i'd muddy the waters a bit.
I have just watched a few of your vids as they have popped up on my lap top. Yep very good you have proffessionalised your channel aswell as merch for sale.
I have had issues with the crank signal being a little to week for the power comander and it would drope spark . Ran fine disconnected. I ended up replacing the pick up coil and adjusting the air gap as close as possible. This was on my 01 GSXR 600 .
I have a TL1000S on which I've done quite a bit of work on the fuel system, although I haven't removed the injectors. Don't know if you're aware but the TL1000R has two injectors per cylinder, whereas the TL1000S only has one per cylinder. The Suzuki ECM has a cold map to enrich the mixture at lower engine temperatures, plus there's a fast idle lever for use from cold which I haven't noticed on the Bimota. That throttle position sensor looks different to the Suzuki one too. I've just checked a spare throttle body I have lying around, and the only markings I can see on the injectors is "15", but there are two holes visible on each one where they spray into the inlet. Robinson's still list the injector assemblies, but they are over £340 each.
Thanks for the comment 👍 The system on the Bimota is a completely different one from the Suzuki. Different throttle bodies, ECU etc. Fyi, it's got a manual fast idle. Yes, I'm also pretty familiar with the TLR system 👍
Okay. Food for thought. Injector looks like it’s used wet fuel, or aged fuel which will have mullered the spray pattern. Water will destroy tips or bad fuel (abrasive wear)will have trashed the tolerances. They’re knackered, got to get new ones.
The SB6 as standard used to have oversize carbs and were not matched to the engine and would run rough and lack power compared to the original bike. I would check that this SB8R injection system hasn't been "uprated" by Bimota at the factory.
I have a pair of new old spare red IW724's (never been used). It'll be a different (lower, I think) flow rate to the greens that you have, but might be interesting to compare the atomisation with. You're welcome to them if it helps.
Hi Jim, Have you consider disconnecting the power commander to see if that improves anything? All you videos are great Jim, and I enjoy watching you using your vast expertise in resolving all type's of problems you encountered.
Look fwd to part two now then ....be interested to find out bout that power commander wiring. If no joy, would fitting the TL1000R throttle bodies n injectors help as a last resort??
Hi Jim, Very interesting video. Not one bit of waffle, this is all fascinating material. I'm looking forward to the next one on this bimota. I think I speak for more than just me, when I say " Go into the weeds, Jim" 😊
so glad I found your channel. I have binge watched all, keep up your style as this is what makes your vids enjoyable. Wonder if you will do any work on a CanAm Spyder
Just out of curiosity, why didn't you test the eBay injectors and the original ones simultaneously, seeing as you've got provisions to test 4 injectors at the same time?
Don't know how your cleaning them but ultrasound won't work. You need acetone which removes a build up of old fuel in the form of a coating called varnish which eventually reduces the ID of any form of jets. There are acetone sprays that you force through the injector by pinging it with a voltage.
Honestly, I can tell you have years of knowledge and experience and find it difficult giving the “short answer”. I feel like you could start a series just on the technical knowledge you can’t get into on your regular videos.
This is a really good point. Yes, the Bimota runs at a higher pressure, 72 psi. The ridiculous thing is that all the injector specifications available are for testing at 3 BAR (42.5 psi) 🤔 They don't Atomize fuel any better at the higher pressures.
I have such a hard on for the SB8R. They were just too expensive for me, so i had to settle with a firestorm. I wonder how much a set of cnc inlets are with decent modern injectors firing at thevalve would do? Can the power commander be bypassed?
You wouldn’t even need to CNC new manifolds…. You can 3d print them in wax and take them to casting foundry to make a set for you. Jewelers do this now as common practice, but they cast their own.
A nice technical video. thnx. A question. I don't have any knowledge about those injectors. But what is it suppost to look like in comparison to the bimota ones? pardon my english, i am dutch..
I just checked the parts fiche and they're conventional injectors on the Raptor. Not trying to be smart, but I have a V Raptor and I shit myself! Fuelling on the Raptor is pretty impressive except for the 0101 digital open or closed thingy...
@@mattjacomos2795 I've a Navigator, (well someone has too) apparently mine aren't suzuki ones, which I expected them to be. Thanks for the update, now I need to find out why mine aren't standard suzuki parts, bugger.
I had (survived) a TL1000S some years ago. Never had problems with it, enginewise. Why don't you go with Keihin injectors? Don't they fit? Or do you want to keep it original, though it is crap?
Hate to say this but it sounds like the Weber injectors and EFI are shit. Maybe the power commander is screwing things up, didn't have much success with one when I had Harley's. I had a TLR1000R and it had no problem with starting or anything not like this thing. Shame you could find a TLR 1000 EFI and swop it over. Anyway best of luck with the diagnostic work.
Arent the injectors able to be disassembled? I do know there are sieve type filters inside petrol injectors that can be replaced BUT not on all injectors....
Maybe the atomization is under higher fuel pressure have you cranked the pressure up n seecifctheres a difference hmm or maybe they atomized under lower pressure than your accustmed to
A 34-minute video that should be 20 at the most. Waffling is an understatement. Pull yourself together, man. Fantastic information laden content though, love watching the channel and watching a skilled mechanic/engineer do their stuff. Keep on waffling fella 👍
It's an older vid now so don't know if you will get to see this and I know nothing about injectors but is it too obvious to say put a baffle in the fuel jet stream as it were??? Is that doable!!!! Ok I've seen the arrangement with it's location in the throttle body and yeah this wouldn't do it really would it
That throttle body configuration is horrible...why would they just not use the Suzuki developed hardware...that makes no sense! I think the TLR had twin injectors per cylinder too.
I don't think it's that easy. Bimota took the engine from Suzuki, but didn't bother with a well developed fuelling system to go with it. Opting to slap on their own proprietary concoction instead.
You were making me nervous watching you swinging that injector adapter block around in the intro. I kept wincing thinking you were going to hit that tank.
Hi Jim, I love watching you work on these bikes mate, your so funny also, One thing would help though, would you stop using Jesus's Name as a swear word, you'll need Him one day mate, Keep up the entertainment Jim.
love these vids were its difficult to diagnose, i have been messing with bikes since the age of 12, i am now 67 and still learning, Thanks Jim.
Not waffling, needs explained. Well done!
Jim I love the waffling cause I'm learning so don't berate your self cause some off us who are in a learned position .......so thank you

Jim your a legend. The fact that you bought a test part and then took the trouble to make plugs for the thing. Legendary

as an independent garage you have some great equipment to do all testing in house 👌
Excellent series Jim keep them coming .
Great information Jim keeping us learning.

Carbs Rule OK 79 . fi... solution to a problem that didn't exist...pure emissions driven complication and grief in my view.... Brilliant Channel.

That's super generous 🙏 I'm not counting my chickens yet, but I may have found a solution 🤞
Great vlog, good diagnostic skills.
Koch Chemie, Bilt Hamber very nice...I detail bikes.
That looks like just delivery flow as opposed to the atomisation concept.
I'd be tempted to machine an adapter to fit into the Injector bore to accept whatever better injector you want to try.
I like the waffling!
Sb8r motor is tl1000r motor correct?. My old tlr race bike used injectors sourced from dihatsu if I remember correctly. HUGE difference in performance
Hi Jim, Have you consider disconnecting the power commander to see if that improves anything? All you videos are great Jim, and I enjoy watching you using your vast expertise in resolving all type's of problems you encountered.
Disconnect the "power commander" - They can give issues.
Yeah, get rid of extra variables and make it work and then put it back after if you will
Waffling = thinking aloud. I find the thought processes also to be interesting.👍
Look fwd to part two now then ....be interested to find out bout that power commander wiring. If no joy, would fitting the TL1000R throttle bodies n injectors help as a last resort??
25:25 It's because the power commander has it's own TPS calibration that needs to be done.

Really enjoyed the video-maybe a bit much as I now want my old SB8R back….
I thought I was hearing double when you heard 4 cylinders! 😂😂👍
I'm gonna guess at start of vid that you do get it fixed. 👍. Now I'm going to watch this through n see. 🏍️💨 Happy new year to you and your family.🎉

This bike is so amazing to see in real life. ❤

I did, just forgot to film it 😕

Just discovered your channel. Brilliant. But back probing the injectors made me think I'd slipped onto porn hub 😂😂
These SB8s were built around the same time as the ill fated Bimota V Due, I wonder if the fuel injection is related between the two machines?
Is the fuel pressure in good order? Does bimota have a totally different pressure compared to your test bench?
This is a really good point. Yes, the Bimota runs at a higher pressure, 72 psi. The ridiculous thing is that all the injector specifications available are for testing at 3 BAR (42.5 psi) 🤔 They don't Atomize fuel any better at the higher pressures.
Looks like the fueling wasn't designed properly in the first place.
I have such a hard on for the SB8R. They were just too expensive for me, so i had to settle with a firestorm. I wonder how much a set of cnc inlets are with decent modern injectors firing at thevalve would do? Can the power commander be bypassed?
Yes, it's possible, I did actually do this, but in an effort to keep the video at a sensible length, I didn't include it in the final edit.
You wouldn’t even need to CNC new manifolds…. You can 3d print them in wax and take them to casting foundry to make a set for you. Jewelers do this now as common practice, but they cast their own.

I see i asked my question to soon... LOL...Love the details on your video's.. And i trully like the Bimota! What a wonderfull bike!
iirc the injectors were also used on the TL1000 powered Cagiva's.
I just checked the parts fiche and they're conventional injectors on the Raptor. Not trying to be smart, but I have a V Raptor and I shit myself! Fuelling on the Raptor is pretty impressive except for the 0101 digital open or closed thingy...

Why didnt you put all four injectors in to compare?. I would suspect the power commander. Looking forward to the next video.
I did. It just didn't make the final edit for various reasons 👍
Just curious if there would be room to put a 45 degree hood on the tip of the injector? They do this on mechanical injectors for drag racing.
Hate to say this but it sounds like the Weber injectors and EFI are shit. Maybe the power commander is screwing things up, didn't have much success with one when I had Harley's. It could be mass air flow sensor, but I'm not 100% sure
It doesn't have a Mass Air Flow Sensor as it's a "speed-density" engine 👍
its not just your lathe skills that are average, I suggest you see if you can get your old job back at McD.
Arent the injectors able to be disassembled? I do know there are sieve type filters inside petrol injectors that can be replaced BUT not on all injectors....

Can’t you machine a diffuser to fit in the end with multi nozzles, Jim?
LOL @ the 300mph speedo. Does the bike have a pitot tube so it shows the airspeed when you drop it off a cliff?
Hard work, a lot of head scratching, but very enjoyable video Jim 👍 btw totally agree with you, inlet manifold and injector design is shit !

Just fast forward it if it's too long for you.
Forgot to mention, the injector assemblies on the S are green in colour.
TPS and new plugs, then hard riding.
Would injectors perform under cylinder compression environent ?
Why didn't you put all 4 injectors in the jig Jim?
Retrofit Suzuki stuff to it and be done? Or is that a Suzuki designed throttle body?
Wow this sb6 sounds just like my vrod😂
Ain't Bimota renound for bad fueling ie the V due.
They look like Nissan side feed injectors from the rb25
I wonder if those injectors are for shower injection. Being side fed and all. Plus, on an exotic bike.
Would SV1000 injector's fit ?
All I could see was ANUS78.
Surely I can't be the only one?

For such a premium price motorcycle the injectors seem shit 💪💪💪 from northern Ireland ☘️☘️☘️
Retrofit the suzuki fi ?
why didn’t you just put all 4 injectors in the machine in order to do a comparison?
Can't you email weber directly for an equivalent or advice? Doesn't cost anything!
Fuckin focus Jim..focus
disconnect the PowerCommander, one variable less...
Agreed, I've already done that 👍
TL or TLR Suzuki injectors?

Fit carburettors😂😂
@karlvanboxel561. That was my thought, but what carbs would fit and jet setting.
Can u fit TLR throttle bodies?
Unfortunately, not easily, completely different wiring harness, ECU, airbox etc.
Nissan sr20det injectors look the same.
Standard tl1000 injection would be way better, why do people try to re-invent the wheel.
Well my gawd. What high tech shtuff they do to bike parts at home these days.
